As we wake upload out the door, today is the day to get out there and really enjoy this warm weather. We have 80s in the forecast for us today and most our inland areas. 70s into San Francisco. And its hard to believe when you wake up and head out the door right now, and you are noticing though chilly temperatures. But thats going to change drastically this afternoon. Were waking up to a beautiful sunrise and you can see right above me over the bay bridge. Over the hills as we head out the door. Right around the corner as that sun continues to build move its way above us and High Pressure continues to build its way in, just in our atmosphere, this is going to give us dry conditions this afternoon. A mix of sun and clouds but still, dry and warm conditions for today and tomorrow. Before another cold front moves in heading into our weekend forecast. And thats going to bring us showers and lots of Cool Temperatures throughout the bay area. And of course gusty conditions too. But lets well get there when we get there. Lets talk more about today. Daytime highs this afternoon, if you live near San Francisco are hitting 70 degrees and that puts us about seven degree betsy devos average. As that High Pressure system sits offshore that is the big reason why were seeing 80s return into the forecast in areas like san jose and concord. That puts us about 15 degrees above average and you can see it sitting just offshore moving in a clockwise direction. But once we head into this weekend, this cold front and the opposite direction moves in from offshore. This works in a counterclockwise direction and it brings in these rainy conditions widespread throughout the bay area. And if you remember last week, on easter sunday, when we were dealing with beautiful sunshine. And then we went into the rest of the week with rainy skies, this is the exact same storm setup. Were going to talk more about that and break apart the science but for now over to you. Reed . All right, lets complex on traffic this morning and starting off right now on the bay bridges. As many head out the door on your way to work this morning, over at the golden gate bridge, a few cars making the drive from marin county over to San Francisco. But all in all, pretty light there. Some spots you can even change lanes right . A bit busy through the next couple of hours and bumpertobumper traffic starting to stretch towards the maze though. Theyre fighting to put some extra space between their kids campuses and homeless encampments. As Katie Nielsen reports they say its time the city steps in. For the past year and a half, weve been involved in some advocacy surrounding our School Safety and security. Reporter Alfredo Hernandez is a senior at kipp and says some of the People Living in rvs have scared his classmates. She was catcalled by one of the unhoused residents living near and neighboring our school and that really that really made me realize how severe this issue has gotten and how we need an immediate solution. Reporter alfredo says the rvs started parking around the school during the pandemic and thats when the problems really started. He says he met with san joses mayor matt mahan to talk about the concerns. They were walking past rv encampments. Sometimes being harassed on their way on and offcampus. Or having breakins on campus. Even found needles on their picnic tables and they asked us what as a city can we do. Reporter the answer is apparently two new ordinances. One that would prevent tent encampments within 150 feet of a school. And the other would allow oversized vehicles and rvs to be towed if they posed a Public Safety risk, which includes being parked near schools. [ spea king in a global language ] this is her house, she says. Reporter for those like ana guerrero who lives in an rv parked next to the school, she says she started parking here a few weeks ago because she was out of options. [ speaking in a global language ] were here because were struggling. We dont really have a place to go. You know . Because there isnt really places where you can park. Reporter ana says she wants to go to one of the countys safe parking sites, but her rv has been ticketed in the past. To the point she cant renew her registration without paying all those past due parking tickets and she cant park in a county safe parking lot until she gets her rv registered. [ speaking in a global language ] were just trying to survive. Just trying to survive. We are not advocating for the criminalization of our unhoused neighbors. And later getting back on the streets. Cruises next steps in all right, welcome back and i want to show you something. This is a gray whale its floating and swimming right off of the coast of Thornton Beach in pacifica. Its had a hard night. Its tail and you can see that dragging there is tangled in a fishing net. In fact, thats drone video that shows the whale dragging a load of buoys for some 400 miles. We know this because ocean experts first spotted and tracked the whale last month near laguna beach. The president of the Pacific Beach coalition is worried saying its amazing the whale even came this far. Listen. This particular whale is very lucky because its able to pull that along. Sometimes they get dragged down and they cant get up. The buoy would get stuck on something and now theyre trapped and theyre losing steam and they have to breathe. So if they you know, they run out of steam and they cant breathe, theyre gone. Well, as you can imagine the whale has tired out and this is a closer look at something called gill nets wrapped all around its tail there. Now the race to cut it free from the net is on. Its Risky Business for both the whale and those who want to get out and help it. Listen. You are literally in a little boat going up to a whale. You know, and diving into the water. Next to a whale that could kill you with one swipe of its fin. And literally cutting the rope off the whale. Theres a big responsibility for us to to do everything in our power to help them. No timeline yet for when that whale could swim free. Well, in the north bay, Sonoma County deputies caught two suspects in a burglary bust and found piece of evidence that they probably didnt want to take back to the station. If you go to the instagram you will actually see i saw that as well and thought what is this outside . Lets go outside right now and take a look at this wednesday morning. Good morning, everybody. And looking live there. You see some fog settling in among those buildings there. And as we mentioned yesterday, some 30 to 35 of the offices are empty here in San Francisco. So that is something we have to work on and bouncing in is Jessica Burch to talk about the weather. Good morning. Absolutely. Good morning. Yeah, were going to see a mix of sun and clouds in the forecast for us this afternoon. But one thing worth mentioning were also going to warm up a lot in this afternoon. Our daytime highs today, let me just tease ahead and weathering 70s from 80s from San Francisco off into the east bay and for the friends near redwood city. About eight degrees above average today. 15 degrees above average in san jose a Beautiful Day for us. And were waking up to beautiful sunrise already. Thats our live cam from our Black Mountain cam. Its stunning right now throughout the santa clara valley. But we do see some of that fog creeping in along the coastal areas and its going to be a dry i day for us today. So keep that in mind. Our pollen count is relatively high and were actually in the high category today and tomorrow. Its starting to decrease into that medium category heading into this weekend. And heres the big reason why. We have a big change in the forecast for us heading into this weekend. Bringing in rain and more moisture all the way into the friday evening and saturday forecast. Right now were just seeing that mix of sun and clouds today and tomorrow. Im advancing the clock all the way into the friday setup. Where we start to see that frontal system move in all throughout the afternoon hours. That first band of rain expected to hit the bay area into the 10 00, 1 00 hour that night. And we see that system sitting just offshore working in a counterclockwise direction bringing in a series of showers for the saturday forecast lingering into the sunday forecast too. Lets pull up the 7 day so we can actually see what im talking about. Today and tomorrow, stunning news to get out there and get so much fresh air. We have some sunshine in the forecast and 80s in the inland areas and this is some really nice springlike weather despite fact that yes, our pollen count is high. But we notice a big difference and i mean 80s all the way into the 50s within the matter of two days that cold front is going to pack its punch with cool weather and widespread throughout the bay area. Were just seeing some gusty conditions ahead of it. So keep that in mind for Outdoor Activities and of course the showers are going to linger into our saturday forecast. And a little bit of sunday morning too. But thats just our inland areas. Thats where were seeing the 80s. For the friends along the bay new york city were not going to get 80s but were pretty close, i mean today were in the upper 70s and lower 70s by tomorrow and then the exact same trend no matter where you live, were all hitting the 50s bisaturday with rainy skies around the corner. Lots of green out on the freeways so far although slow sponges pick up on 808 over in hay word. Dublin westbound 580 as well. Two lanes blocked due to the crash.
