We are in the warehouse Arts District of new orleans. Everyone is out. 49ers fans and ravens fans and everyone is making predictions. It is finally here. Reporter the wait is almost over. This is the moment every fan, every player waits their entire life for. Reporter after a season of hits, misses, controversy, and kaepernicking, its time for the San Francisco 49ers to play for their sixth ring. We do have jitters. Reporter as the hours tick down, fans can hope. Spank them like we spanked the patriots. I think it will be a blow out. Reporter there is also a lot of guessing. The ravens, 2417. And there you go. Of course, the 49ers fans are rooting on the 49ers top and you know who else is rooting . Cbs5s mike sugerman. You have finally made it you have been on the road since last friday reporter i didnt drive at all today. I walked everywhere i could. New orleans, you have been here a week. You know the culture and art and food and music. But there is a lot of alcohol here and this. Im not breaking a news story here. It is known and it is mardi gras and it is the superbowl. And i just got to show you, you know everybody is drunk here. But here is what it is like to be in the french quarter. I walked out of a hotel and thought i heard journey. [ singing ] dont stop believing what are you drinking there . Beer. Go niners yeah niners [ cheers and applause ] who has it better than us . Nobody [ cheers and applause ] reporter the fact is it is like that on virtually every block of the french quarter. A little nutty. Journey is here Stevie Wonder is here. Reporter they are all excited and. Reporter the baseball world series that vick and i got to cover in detroit, we would be done about 2 00 a. M. Because it is eastern time. The bars were closed at 2 00 a. M. there is no problem here with that. From what i understand. Reporter that is not a problem here. [ laughter ] people are getting ready for the superbowl parties. And check out where linda yee is right now. Reporter im in the mission district. There is a dui check point behind me. Doesnt look like a lot of action, but they have nine cars pulled over. They are waiting for the toe trucks. The whole reason they started early is in the numbers. The per sennage of drunk driving accidents is higher on superbowl weekend. Police will pull over anywhere from 5 to 600 drivers at this dui check point. Superbowl sunday is second only to new years according to the national Highway Safety administration. These check points are designed to put a dent in those statistics. From the city streets to the freeway to encourage people to act responsibly. So the officers here check for drivers licenses to make sure they are valid and check sobriety. And encourage them to act responsibly. Reporter tomorrow, superbowl sunday, the dui check points intensify. While, what they call saturation patrol. Police will fan out driving around different neighborhoods. They will be hunting down drunk drivers and making arrests. So the big word tonight is do not drink. And drive. What we are learning about the victim. And a shooting overshadows a bay area festival. How people describe the scene. [ music ] her body was found well, whoever killed a 13 yearold girl is still on the loose tonight. Her body was found in a park. She was last seen in another city. One man told us he saw something suspicious. Reporter there is little new in the case of the murdered 13yearold girl found naked in the park. She was found missing by a Foster Parent. Is it is a sexual assault. We done know yet. We are looking at everything. Reporter sergeant rob lankey says there has been an autopsy, but they are not releasing the cause of death. Are you frightened by this . A bit. I used to walk here all the time. I dont know what happened or where, but uh, i wont be Walking Around here anymore. Reporter there are some leads, this man thought he saw something suspicious. A man sitting in the car with his lights on. It just struck me funny. Reporter at this point, this man in the vehicle is just one of many leads. Lots of phone calls coming in through the tip line. Lots of people flagging the officer down to talk to them. Reporter until the murder is solved, the parents are doing what they must. I live in redding and one of my granddaughters takes the bus and she was too scared to go home on the bus. I drove to pick her up. You know. To pick her up so she didnt have to take the bus home. Reporter this crime leaving a murdered childs body here has affected so many people here. In fairfield, don knapp, cbs5. An event designed to show off oakland east better side was marred by a shooting. Now the people wounded were innocent bystanders. Fire broke out just before 11 00 during a confrontation between two groups. There were a lot of people that maybe were not necessarily first friday type people Walking Around. Necessarily crowding. So we started looking afternoon and heard the gunshot. Sowned like boom boom boom boom. Like gunshots or something. Police say they are still looking for the suspects. Now tonight, tumbling between 39 in napa, sedona. Right there on the approach towards oakland bay bridge out of the east bay. Sunday starting a bit on the foggy side, then partial clearing of the skies and the next chance of rain will be on thursday and friday. Speaking of rain, check that out right there. Its on tbs, for three consecutive years, the superbowl has set records as the most watched Television Program in u. S. History. So, it is game day for the players and for cbs sports. The 49ers beat the broncos in superbowl 24 in new orleans, a ticket cost 125 and a commercial went for 700,000. Fast forward to superbowl 47 where a Premium Ticket goes for 1,250 and a 30 second commercial cost 4 million. The pressure is enormous. This is a big challenge. Um, the technical terms, the board is maxed out. Reporter this is part of the superbowl you will not see. The cbs compound. There are two game trucks, replay trucks, slow motion trucks and pregame trucks. All season long, it has pointed to new orleans. Its a great honor. When it ends, you wish you had it next year. Reporter it is the team behind the scenes that make the event seem larger than life. It has quadrupled times four. Reporter this is the 4k replay truck capturing 300 and 500 frames per second. We are able to zoom into a controversial play and make correct calls. Reporter the compound reminded me of an ant hill. Everything with a job to do. Miles of cable. 62 cameras. Numerous Television Sets for 15 different shows at the Jackson Square broadcast center. It is simply mind boggling. At the end of the broadcast is a different story. But for one lucky fan, superbowl 47 is his 47th superbowl in american. Vern glenn has this super story. And tomorrow night, one of these two teams is going home with that named after the legendary coach Vince Lombardi from the green bay packers. Let me show you one particular superfan. This is San Franciscos larry jacobson. He has been to every single superbowl. He is one of three guys who have been to every single superbowl. Its an event we plan for starting in february, so i will plan for new york starting in february. Thank good the 49ers are here. Made it much more exciting a trip. My favorite superbowl was when the 49ers blew out denver. Ive been asked if i wan to see a close game. I say no. Want to see them score the first two touchdowns. When he talked about the victory over denver, the crushing defeat, well it happened right here in new orleans. That may be a good omen. Mike sugerman has been on the road to the superdome more than a week. Turns out there are 49ers fans everywhere. There are mike. And they come right to you, right . Reporter well, you know, this town is lousy with 49er fans this week. But these are the high rollers. I went across 2600miles in the united states. I ran into so many 49ers fans and some of them are just nuts. That shirt looks pretty good considering you had it ton the past week. It has been a conversation starter. Reporter in almost every city in town, people could tell we were niner fans. And everybody wished us well. But a couple stand out. R. C. Elsworth is one. He runs a bar in the heart of texas. Instead of a dallas suburb, hes a 9ers fan. I got fired of the cowboys when i was a kid. Reporter upwards of 200 other fans planning to show up sunday and watch the superbowl. Hey, niners fan, you are always welcome at my house. Reporter ray montano lives in roswell, new mexico. I thought he was my relative, joe montano. Reporter you would have thought we were in san mateo. It was meant to be for me. Reporter i never would have thought there were this many niner fans across the area. And there will be plenty more in new orleans. Road trip reporter road trip. My wife went home. She will not be able to see the game. Michelle, you have remained after a week, take it away. Reporter i know, we have been here a very long time. For a week, we have been exploring all of the sights and sounds of new orleans an everything it has to offer, but we took a 15 minute cab ride. Just 15 minutes away and found the lower ninth ward still in ruins. Its the first superbowl in new orleans since katrina. And there are still signs of the devastating storm. But miles away, the scenery is so different. Right there. Reporter arthor mcneil drives a cab and remembers leaving his home. Ingly looked around and it looked kind of spooky. I thought, shoot, nobody down here but me. I better get out of here. I got in my car and left. A lot of trailers werent tied down. Reporter arthor lost everything. His neighborhood now lined with abandoned homes and empty lots is showing some signs of progress. You see over there . That was property that they came and bought up down here.
