A number of fires were set in the streets of the mission district. Kate joins us live with more on the messthats being cleaned up this morning. Good morning. Reporter good morning. I want to show you theres still aftermath from last night. Piles of debris still here on the street that crews are working to clean up as last nights celebrations turned to mayhem. Officers tried to disperse thousands of fans flooding the streets. Some set small fires to trash cans, couches and news paper wracks. Officers told a group of fans they were unlawfully assembling and needed to leave. Take a look here, this is chopper 5. We heard reports that some firefighters needed to be escorted by officers in order to put out the flames. The clean up is already beginning here. Again, the celebrations will continue but theres still aftermath here that needs to be swept up this morning. As far as arrests, we were able to confirm one arrest has been made. They were mostly peaceful. Thousands of fans gathered to watch the game on a jumbotron. The crowd went wild. Feels good, man. Two series in three years. We did it yeah oh, my god, this is amazing. We deserve this win. This is great. Go giants there were fire works in San Francisco and all over the bay area to mark the win. Chestnut street in the city was another place fans gathered to cheer on the giants. Hundreds of people gathered there for a peaceful but loud celebration. And for good reason. And for the first time, giants had to come from behind last night for the victory. They were tied up in the 10th. Ryan was on second. After he singled and marco delivering a two out hit. Gave giants a 43 lead. That was your game winner. And surgio took care of the tigers 1, 2, 3 in the bottom of the 10th. Winning 4 games to 3. Couldnt be prouder of these guys. To be world champions and two out of the last three years, its amazing. And then the champaign. The giants will fly out of detroit in about three hours. I dont think they went to bed. They arrive at San Francisco at 3 00 this afternoon. Im sure there will be a few people waiting there. And the celebration will continue through wednesday where San Francisco holds a parade. Expected to combine with two other storm systems and already prompted shut downs of schools, Financial Markets and mass transit. We have Team Coverage of the storm and affects. I dont know if you can really get a sense of the size of the waves here. But they have covered the beach here and enkroech on the board walk. This is 12 to 18 hours before the brunt of this storm is supposed to hit land. Folks here have emptied out from this area and other coastal areas and headed for safety. Conditions along the coast have been steadily getting worse. The oceans angry right now and were going to see a storm surge. Sandy is massive. Hurricane force winds extend out 175 miles from the storms eye. Look at these huge waves up to 40 feet east and south of the main center. Thats why were so concerned about the storm surge. Officials say time is running out to get to safety. You better do what they say because the ocean really shows you no mercy. As Hurricane Sandy moves in, many folks in beach areas have moved out heeding the mandatory evacuation warnings. How much damage this storm will do and if they are ready. I dont think people are prepared for the storm as they should be. Her brother is a meteorologist. He says dont underestimate. Further up the coast, officials predict a storm surge of 11 feet. Could hit new york city. Mandatory evacuation for this zone. 375,000 new yorkers have been ordered to evacuate flood proned lower manhattan. We have two little kids and pack our stuff and leave. Airlines have canceled thousands of flights scheduled for today. Im trying to get to greensboro, north carolina. President obama toured fema and said the federal government is standing by to provide any assistance it can. The president has left orlando and canceled a rally headed back to the white house to help deal with the affects of this storm. The Evacuation Order took place here last night. People filling gas cans and generators. Slowly moving out of town. I can imagine. There were massive Power Outages expected before this storm hit. I can see lights behind you but are you hearing about any outages so far where you are . Oh, yes. Theres still power here but there are Power Outages expected and rolling blackouts on purpose. Added extra crews and clearing trees and clear the power lines. The worry is once this water really starts to pile up that it saturates the ground and trees will go down and a lot of folks here need to be prepared for many days without power. All flights have been canceled for the next 48 hours, boston, jfk, new york and philadelphia. I would imagine some disappointed travelers there today; right . Reporter you bet. That storm is getting ready to hit the east coast but travelers will feel an impact. Thousands of flights have been canceled. Many of them to and from sfo. They include all flights to and from boston, jfk, nowork, baltimore and washington d. C. Jet blue has canceled redeye flights to jfk tonight. Also canceled some flights at other airports in the bay area. Flying out of the Oakland Airport, flight 90 to jfk have been canceled. San jose 472 to boston and 174 to jfk. Travelers are being advised to check flight status well ahead of time. If your flight is canceled, do not come to the airport. Call the airline or go online to make changes. Cbs 5. All right. Were already seeing those waves piling up on the coastline. That is one of the big concerns. This is going to be near the eye of the hurricane to pass slightly to the south of that right now. Thats the latest track. A lot of devastation possible in this area. But maybe even a larger storm surge into new york. Some of those swells making their way on shore. Only going to get worse in the next 12 to 24 hours as the storm system approaches the coastline. The big concern is its coming on right along with high tide and weve got a full moon. The combination could be the big problem. Thats going to lift the water up high and were expecting such a large storm system. It is not the strongest hurricane weve ever seen. A category 1 sustained winds at 85 miles per hour. But the winds sustaining. Hurricane force 175 miles out. Tropical storm force out 500 miles. You are talking about a wide path of possible destruction early tomorrow morning. After that, start to lose energy and make its way up toward maine. Otherwise, this is going to be some kind of story. We have a dense fog advisory in affect. Inside the basobe careful traveling early on. A lot of folks are sleeping in this morning after the giants victory. I think as we head throughout the day, a lot of sunshine by the afternoon. Should be pleasant. Maybe not quite as warm as yesterday but it will be nice. Temperatures moving up into the 60s and 70s in many spots. Maybe low 80s in the interior valley. Chance of rain does make return on halloween. Maybe showers into thursday. Causing a few problems on the roadway. Theyve shut down that area around at t park. King street is closed between 4th coming off of 280 and the ballpark. You can use that 280 extension. You can use the king street off ramp but you are going to be forced to make a hard left on 4th. And use that to loop around and get back on to the embarcadero. King street should be reopened by 6 00 this morning. Well let you know as soon as we find out. In the meantime, mission street, they are also doing some street sweeping, cleaning around that area cause of all the excitement there last night. Heres a live look at our sensors. Westbound highway 4 not too bad. A little bit of slowing. A few break lights and once you get past those exits, everything looks good. So drive times are pretty much free and clear this morning. I know lawrence has been busy this morning monitoring the storm on the east coast and foggy here. A little fog around the bay area. They have bigger trouble toward the eastern sea board. If you are headed outside right now, watch out for dense fog early on around the bay and out toward the coastline. Temperatures in the 50s. By the afternoon, the fog will lift in most spots. Sunny and mild day inside the bay. 50s and 60s. 70s and low 80 s inland. And 60s out toward the coastline. Fog continuing to linger there. Storm clouds making their way in the pacific northwest. As you make your way inside the bay, 70 in oakland. 60 in San Francisco. Next couple days, things begin to switch gears a bit. Storm clouds could move in late in the day. Showers into shurs as well. Thats a look at weather. Back to you. Police in oakland are very busy investigating four shootings all happened within 6 hours. The first happened just after 5 00 yesterday afternoon. The only death at this point is from the latest shooting around 10 40 last night around 9th avenue. Victims of the first three shootings hospitalized. The first two in critical condition. California Highway Patrol will start deploying officers to help police in the cities of oakland and stockton. Increase patrols in high crime areas. Violent crime has been on the rise in both cities. The ch p is looking into the possibility of federal funds to help offset the cost. A water emergency is over on treasure island. The water stopped flowing when a water main break happened friday night. They still recommended boiling water before drinking it. Now the water is safe but people should flush pipes before using it. Soda tax is up for discussion at a town hall meeting tonight. The mayor as well as nutrition experts. Meeting starts at 7 00 tonight.
