Motive for the shooting. Reporting live in berkeley, cate caugiran, cbs 5. One person in critical condition, two others serious after a shooting in oakland near lake merritt around 10 30 last night. Officers found a 50yearold man shot outside a liquor store on east 18th street. According to police, it looks like he may have been an innocent bystander. They found three more victims a few blocks away. San Francisco Police are trying to figure out who shot and killed a man in his 20s last night. Officers found the man just before 8 00 near grove and buchanan streets. The man had been shot in the stomach and leg. He died at the hospital an hour later. We just saw cate in berkeley. The dry spell is over. A lot of rain is coming in now. Lets get the latest from cbs 5 meteorologist lawrence karnow. For a lot of folks it gets the Blood Pressure going again. This doesnt look as bad. Still the rain in spots. Its dumping in some areas right now. You see on our highdef Doppler Radar, look at all the yellow off the coastline. Thats going to be pushing onshore a little later on. This is not going to be as strong as that last series of storms. A closer look you can see that band of moisture through richmond, berkeley and concord. So good downpours there. But it is going to break up as we head into the afternoon. And were not expecting to see any flooding from the storm system. Here it comes right now. Its moving on through. That batch of moisture just off the coastline about to push onshore. So if you havent seen rain yet, its coming. So a messy commute early on this morning, but by the afternoon it breaks up. We may see a little bit of sunshine but temperatures fairly mild. A lot of subtropical moisture out there. So well keep you in the 50s and 60s. This may be it for the rain for a while. Well talk more about that in a moment. Gianna has traffic. That will be good news once of the rain is out of here. Heres not the good news. We have trouble spots out there. The accidents keep rolling in for chp. The first one is westbound 580 at lakeshore. Two lanes are blocked. We are getting reports that one person may be trapped inside this vehicle. So emergency crews are on scene there. Some delays as you approach the area. Again thats westbound 580 at lakeshore so expect delays through there. Also Traffic Alert highway 35 at ware road looks like two lanes are shut down one in each direction due to a tree in the road. No word on when the lanes will reopen. Elsewhere new wreck reported north 880 at 7th street blocking the road. Not too many delays yet on 880. Northbound still quiet as you work your way towards the maze. But chp just arriving on scene of that accident. Also couple of ones just came in. Westbound 80 at san pablo blocking the road and 101 southbound at alemany reports of an accident possibly stuck in the right lane. Now, the south bay checking in problemfree. One of our bright spots right now. You can see 101 were still seeing a lot of green on our sensors. So far no delays along 101 or 280. Now, lets get a live look at 101 at tully. Traffic is moving through devils slide again this morning. Crews did emergency work yesterday to shore up the roadway along the san mateo coast because of erosion caused by last weeks storms. A new tunnel is set to open next year and caltrans hopes that will finally mean and end to road closures in the area but some drivers dont want the new tunnel. Devils slide is the most beautiful drive that i have ever been over and im sad that the tunnel is opening and its going to take away the scenery. Drivers dont Pay Attention to the view. At least you shouldnt. The new tunnel south of pacifica is expected to open to cars in february or march of next year. In Santa Cruz County vine hill road might be open to some traffic later today. The road off highway 17 in Scotts Valley was washed out in the weekend storm. A whole section of hillside actually disappeared in the storm taking the roadway with it. The man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 16 yearold at risk girl is expected to make his First Court Appearance sometime today. This man here 36yearold Gary Atkinson facing multiple charges including kidnapping and rape. The victim, a 16yearold girl with autism who functions like a 7yearold. This is by far one of the most sickening cases i have seen in my career as a Police Officer, that someone as mr. Atkinson can take advantage of someone of this stature. A young girl walked away from a group home in coolidge avenue in oakland a week ago. Police say atkinson met her near the Fruitvale Bart station and then forced her to his home here in San Francisco where the assault allegedly occurred. She was found on a muni bus two days later. San Francisco Police hope a new online tool will help them track down suspects in unsolved crimes. The lineup on the sfpd website shows Surveillance Video from cold cases including this violent robbery here on polk street. The lineup also includes descriptions of the crimes and suspects and ways to Contact Police to offer tips. That the public can basically reach out to us through social media and helping us identify who this suspect is. Police got the idea after a San Francisco giants fan smashed a bus following the world series. This widely circulated photo of the vandalism led to his arrest. This is a bizarre story. They held him captive, threatened to kill him and made him do home repairs. A handyman walked into a ambush in morgan hill and got himself out of the mess at a san jose gas station hours later. The 50yearold handyman was called monday morning for some work at a mansion in morgan hill. For the next six hours, a man and a woman allegedly attacked him and forced him to do work. You know, the victim was prettier it fiveday forecast. He was shaken up and scared by this whole incident. He was pretty terrified. He said he was waiting for an opportunity to escape. That opportunity came when the suspects stopped for gas in san jose while taking the victim to do more repairs. He then called police and they caught the two suspects. Both are due in court tomorrow. Work resumes at the nations largest port complex after a nineday strike. Negotiators reached an agreement to end the strike late last night. The details have not been released and it still needs to be ratified by union members. Union workers were frustrated about employers outsourcing jobs. The strike shut down 10 of 14 cargo Container Terminals at the nations busiest seaport complex in l. A. Going to get cargo moved throughout the supply chain in the country and get everybody those christmas presents that they are looking for in those stores. Clerical workers who have been without a contract for two years walked out on the job more than a week ago and thousands of longshoremen refused to cross the picket lines. It is 5 08. Contra costa countys board of supervisors have delayed a vote on whether to shut down four of their fire stations. If approved, stations in the cities of walnut creek, clayton, martinez and lafayette would all close january 1. The countys top fire official recommended the closures saying a loss of property taxes and failed tax measure in november caused the district to burn through its cash reserve. Some other headlines around the bay on this wednesday. A decision on whether to buy a drone for the Alameda County Sheriffs Office sent to the Public Protection committee for further study. Now, we have a couple of Traffic Alerts to report. The first one is on 580 westbound at lakeshore. Two lanes are blocked. As a result, this is a twocar accident. We have injuries reported in the wreck. No word on when these lanes will be reopened but expect delays there. Elsewhere, if you are heading around and about we have other accidents westbound 80 at San Pablo Dam road this accident reported in lanes first reported in the Center Divider but now its blocking the left lane. Traffic is slow through there. Once you get past the accident not too bad on the bay bridge toll plaza. Elsewhere, 880 northbound right at 7th street we have a twocar crash also stuck in the middle lanes. Two trucks are involved in this accident. Chp just headed to the scene. Slight delays approaching the accident. No delays southbound on 880, most of it is on the northbound side where the accident is. Live look at 880 through oakland quiet traffic. Delays once you approach the accident. South 880 no trouble spots into hayward or fremont. Elsewhere, Traffic Alert reported in redwood city. Highway 35 at ware road there are two lanes blocked one in each direction. This is for a tree down in the road. Lots of activity there on scene. Use an alternate until its cleared. Mass transit would be a great option today. Bart, ace, muni, caltrain and your ferries all running on time. So you want to avoid the roads, bart is a great choice as well as muni. And a live look now at the san mateo bridge. So far not seeing any delays yet. A 14 to 15minute ride to 880. That could change quickly with the rain. We are waiting for rain to move onshore. Hidef doppler showing you exactly where the rain is falling right now and the heaviest right over the central bay. You can see that big patch of moisture off the coastline, thats going to be pushing onshore very shortly but in the meantime the heaviest amounts of rainfall stretching in right through San Francisco and into the east bay. You have some very strong storms making their way into the concord area right now. If you are traveling in that area this morning, be careful. Its going to be raining heavily and may taper off. We have more rain on the way. Still this morning starting out with some rain but i think by the afternoon the skies begin to part a little bit maybe a couple of leftover showers butotherwise we start to dry out. This is probably the last storm in quite a while. Were going to dry things out as we head in toward tomorrow and the coming days. But for today one last storm system dropping into the bay area. The good news is while its a nice soaker it doesnt look to be a flooding rain so a nuisance rain coming through this morning for your commute but otherwise, traveling around the state youll find showers up and down much of california and even some rain in the high sierra nevada. Bases are pretty high but Winter Weather advisories up above 6500 feet or so. Expecting another 4 to 8 inches of snow above that period and then it looks like that will last until 10 00 this morning before those clouds move by. Lets see if we can time it out a bit as the storm moves through this morning and then about 10 00 or so you will see more scattered showers becoming focused from San Francisco southward and then in the afternoon that scoots out of town. Then it looks like overnight things settle down. By tomorrow we have a lot of sunshine around the bay area maybe just some patchy ground fog. Temperatures outside not going to be bad. Again, this is subtropical in origin with the storm system so well keep you in the 50s and 60s. Some 60s into the east bay and also in the north bay well keep those temperatures mild for this kind of storm. 50s and 60s. Next couple of days, well watch weather settle down quit a bit. Police say a man has implicated himself in a death of a new york subway passenger who was pushed on to a track. Surveillance video from mondays incident shows the victim in a confrontation with the suspect shortly before he was shoved on the tracks at the times square station. The victim was hit by a train and then killed. Witnesses say the man desperately tried to climb back up to the platform but was unable to make it. Just standing in fear and shock not knowing whats going on. Some ran out, others just stood there. Some witnesses say they noticed the suspect acting strangely before the incident. Investigators say he frequented the area often, helping street vendors. Its not clear how he implicated himself. 5 18 now.
