Vice president , joe biden met in kiev with the new leader this is morning. He arrived yesterday for a visit designed to show support for the prowestern ukrainian government. Meanwhile, separatists show no sign of backing down and russia shows no signs of abiding by an agreement they signed last week. Suzanne mcginnis is in washington. Good morning. Reporter good morning, annemarie. Vice President Biden just spoke and says he stands ready to achieve a united ukraine. Tough words from the u. S. Government. Its from moscows actions that this highlevel show of support is not going to have much of an impact. Vice President Joe Biden is in kiev ukraine meeting with the acting president and Prime Minister to show u. S. Support. Hes expected to offer Technical Assistance to help ukraine implement economic and Energy Reforms to become more stable. The idea is to reduce ukraines need to depend on russia for oil and gas. Reporter biden is the most senior u. S. Official to visit ukraine since the start of the crisis that only continues to escalate. This morning, the search resumed for the more than 200 people still missing. Prosecutors asked for warrants to arrest six more crew members. South korean officials now say the ship did not make a sharp turn as previously reported. Debtth doane has more. This video shows the captain receiving medical treatment on shore while hundreds remain trapped on board. The captain was not on the bridge when the ship got into trouble. Instead, the ships third mate was navigating that stretch of water for the first time. A transcript of the ship to shore communication shows confusion and indecision after the ferry started listing. At 9 12 a. M. , controllers on the shore asked, are the people on board on the life rafts or lifeboats . The crew member says no, we are not yet. The ship is too tilted, we cant move. 12 minutes later, its clear the Evacuation Order hasnt been given. They asked, if the ferry evacuates passengers, will they be rescued right away. Radio traffic said the captain should make the final decision and decide quickly, whether to evacuate passengers or not. We found another member of the sewol recovering in the hospital. How is it for you to watch what happened . I feel a tremendous guilt, he told me. We werent able to get to the passengers. We couldnt rescue them. We were not trying to save ourselves.
