Good to be with you. Im annemarie green. New york mayor bill de blasio is calling for calm and a temporary pause for weeks of protests over policerelated violence. He wants demonstrators to wait until after two slain officers were laid to rest. But theyre rejecting his calls this morning. That, as investigators learn more about the gunman and what he was doing before the deadly shooting. Don champion is in new york, good morning, don. Reporter good morning, annemarie. The mayor called for a halt on demonstrations came as he and the Police Commissioner met with the grieving families of the officers killed. Meantime, investigators have new clues as to what the gunman was doing before saturdays deadly encounter. This is a difficult time for both of our families. Reporter as the families of wenjian liu and rafael ramos lay their loved ones to rest, the new york city mayor bill de blasio called for a moment of reflection. Until these funerals are past, lets focus just on these families and what they have lost. Reporter but protesters like this group that staged a sitin at Grand Central terminal monday vowed to up the fight. If anything this is a time of protests even more. It seems like a plan to try to attack this one guy with hundreds of thousands of protesters who have been protesting against Police Brutality in general. Reporter investigators say brinsley watched and recorded a protest in the city earlier this month but did not participate. His sister maintains he was not targeting police. He was emotionally troubled. It had nothing to do with police retaliation. Reporter authorities released last known video of brinsley carrying a small white bag possibly with the gun he used to kill the officers inside. Theyre now trying to piece together where he was in the hours before the shooting. Now, the mayor says he does plan on attending both funerals. Officer ramos funeral is scheduled for this weekend. You need to look beyond the morale to the performance of the officers and this is a testament to their professionalism. Theyre still throughout working very hard in demonstrations in the face of greater adversity. Theyre policing despite the horrific murders over the weekend. Theyre still going towards the danger, not stepping back. So the morale is something thats internalized and has not affected their performance which is what you would ask. With respect to moving forward, an apology, i know the mayor went to the hospital to pay his respects to the slain officers, some of the officers there were so upset, they turned their backs on him when he passed by. Is an apology offered either by the officers to the mayor or the mayor to the officers . The circumstance was unfortunate. It was a manifestation of frustration of some officers.
