There was an early bell that was supposed to ring at 7 00. We havent seen anyone arrive. School in general for everybody starts at about 8 00 this morning. We expect things to pick up in the next hour. They dont think it will be a typical day, however, because of this threat found in a girls bathroom. We want to show you what was written on the wall. It looks like it was written in just a marker. It states, as you can see, i hate everyone at the school. Watch me shoot everyone on march 14th. I swear to god, we have blurred out an expletive in the graffiti. How did the School Respond . They found this yesterday afternoon, and from what we understand, they sent out an e mail and an automated phone message. There is also information that the police have been called. They have an Anonymous Tip Line so they can find out any information without the person reporting it having to reveal their identity. But they are promising this increased Police Presence today and through the rest of the week. The threat is focused on tomorrow, obviously. But they will start today and continue it on through the rest of the week. Weve tried contacting Pleasanton Police. We hope to hear from them within the next hour as well. A woman in palo alto is facing charges after accused of stealing a gas station attendants phone and ran other ter with her car several times ran over it with her car several times. It happened in mountain view. The attendant says he asked 43 yearold catherine drumand to stop using the squeegees at the gas station to clean her tires. He says drumand stole the phone and ran over it several times before driving away. Drumand was later arrested for assault and vandalism. 7 05. San jose police have released photos of a man and a woman suspected of violently stealing another womans purse. Ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega joins us from the scene of the crime. So janine, are people in the area concerned about their safety . Reporter they definitely are. You know, were here near the ray street light rail station. Most of the people i spoke to said they hadnt heard about this attack but this happened in the buena vista neighborhood in the 500 block of race street. Were told by people that this area is considered safe. But police are hoping that you can help them track down the two suspects they say are responsible. They say this young woman and a young man in their early 20s were working as a team when they targeted a woman who was riding the light rail on february 6th. Just before 7 00 that night, the female victim got off at the race street light rail station. Police say the female suspect followed her, punched her and then kicked her until she fell to the ground and tried to take her purse. The male suspect helped the female suspect snatch that victims purse, both left the scene on the bicycle. Those who ride the light rail are shocked this happened. Its very scary. These apartments are not fully leased out leased out. If you were to scream, no one could really come out and help you. Reporter the female is described as latino, 56, 190 pounds, long, dark wavy hair. If you have any information on the suspects or recognize them, San Jose Police would like to hear from you. State lawmakers and superintendents from six California School districts are examining governor browns new School Funding plan. Yesterday, at a hearing, most participants praised the principals of the finance reform plan. The plan gives more money to schools that have more English Learners and lowincome children but superintendents of the districts with fewer disadvantaged students say they worry about inadequate funding because of the new formula. New legislation is being introduced in the California State Senate that would require colleges to give credit for online courses when classes are full students at California Public universities often find it hard to finish the graduation requirements because classes on campus are full. 7 11. Yesterday, a state Appeals Court approved the conditional release of 69yearold charles crispman. He will be moving from a State Hospital to a cottage on willow pass road in bay point. He sawyered time for a lewd act with a boy. He must wear an ankle monitor. Police are asking for the publics help in finding the man responsible for a Sexual Battery incident at one bay area campus. Authorities say the assault happened in the Wellness Center at city college of San Francisco just after noon on saturday. A female student was showering in a locked stall when she felt someone grab her from behind. Police say the woman fought off the attacker. Students received an email alert and are now on edge. Getting that email yesterday, i that made me freak out. I did, like, to the shower. I dont want anything like that to happen. Police describe the suspect as a black man with light brown skin between 25 and 30 years old. About 6 feet tall, 185 pound. He was last seen wearing pounds. Now, these people evicted from a homeless camp underneath interstate 280 in the mission bay neighborhood, they are staying at the city of Refuge Church south of market. Later today, city workers will assign each person a case manager and then move them into hotel rooms. That by weve paved the way for the that way weve paved the way for the rest of the Homeless People and they wont give up hope. Each person has to take part in counseling or rehab to stay in the housing. If the program is successful, it will be used to replace other homeless encampments. Apartment rents hit an all time high in berkeley last year. The rent control board is saying the average rent for a one bedroom apartment is 13525. That was during the fine 13525. It happened right near the sonoma marin county border. Ktvus Tara Moriarty has been on this since 4 30. What are investigators telling you . Reporter well, investigators are trying to figure out if the driver fell asleep at the wheel or if perhaps she had been drinking. They will not know at this stage. Those results will be available much later but they do know she visited into the Center Divider here on 101 and that was a fatal mistake. Around 5 30 this morning, a tow truck removed the truck from a ditch in between novato and petaluma. Officers say three hours earlier, they received a 911 call from a passenger in that truck who had been injured. If he hadnt been able to make a cell phone call, who knows how long it would have been for someone to notice the truck . Officers say it appears the woman drifted into the center divide, overcorrected and then ended up in the ditch. At about 2 17 we received a call this morning of a green colored vehicle that had overturned. It took our officers several minutes to find the vehicle as it was in a inconspicuous spot, in an area that was dark. Reporter the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Were told shes 31 out of petaluma. Three male passengers in their 30s received major injuries. Two were taken to santa rosa memorial. The other to marin general. Firefighters and the chp say this is the third fatal crash along 101 between the novato narrows and the county line in just two weeks. Now, again, the crash is still under investigation. Caltrans has announced the highway 1 twin tunnels at devils slide will finally open in less than two weeks. Brian flores joins us live from pacifica with the exact date of the opening. Good morning, brian. Reporter good morning, tori. Well, for many the completion of the tunnels just cant come soon enough. But if you take a look behind me, this is highway 1. If you live around here, you know about the hairpin turns, the land slides and the accidents possibly from the foggy conditions. Mark monday, march 25th, as this to be open. Caltrans made the announcement on thursday. For residents and visitors that come in out of Half Moon Bay, the tunnels which are 4200 feet long, underneath San Pedro Mountain will alleviate hazardous conditions. The area is known to have land slides. When that happens, this section of highway 1 would be closed, sometimes for months, isolating residents and commuters, some who would be forced to find other ways to go around. They also say when this happens, it hurts local businesses. When this section of road is washed out or disabled, the local economy is just devastated by that. It just cant happen anymore. Reporter now, with the twin ton else dash tunnels with the twin tunnels opening, hopefully accidents will decrease. Theres a Carbon Monoxide detection system. As we take it back out here live, the official opening is scheduled for march 25th. They also plan on holding some type of tunnel Opening Ceremony as well. The gop envisions a balanced budget in ten years. Democrats are not talking about that. There are no new taxes raised in the republican plan. One thing thats interesting is this the gop would do away with the obama Health Reforms and repeal the law. They would save about 35 of the budget savings in that budget plan but not mentioned at all are any of the tax increases that were put in the Obama Health Law in order to fund a lot of those programs. That wasnt even mentioned in the gop plan. Thats why i hesitate to call this that, even though everybody labels it a budget. A lot of the banks are not filled in. We expect the same thing from democrats when their plan is released in the senate later today. If you are waiting for a budget out of the white house, that wont come until april 8th, two months after that submission. Will the white house plan be markedly different from the senate plan which is a majority of democrats. Reporter as of this point in time, the white house is not releasing any details and really the last couple of days at the briefings there at the white house, jayen in kay has not been giving up details of exactly what will be in the there. Both the house and the senate by the time the white house gets around to releasing their plan, most likely they will have acted. Its not really clear what the white house will add to the mix. The first of february is when that plan is supposed to be sent to congress, by law. Another deadline missed there. Going back to ryans plan, you mentioned that he wants to repeal whats known as obama care. Is that realistic . Its already been basically approved by the supreme court. Reporter look, it could always happen. You can repeal anything in the congress. As of right now, there are not the votes here to repeal the Obama Health Laws and the reforms involved in that. You might be able to get that through the house of representatives which is controlled by the republicans. But it wont go anywhere in the democratic senate, just as a lot of the republicans look across the plan and said your tax increases are not looking anywhere either. Each side, the red corner and the blue corner on this, its hard to see where the compromise is going to be, tori. Speaking of that, youve mentioned on your blog that president obama seems to be on the Charm Offensive which a lot of people have been talking about. Is that making progress . Reporter we will have to see. I would like to be a fly on the wall and listening to critics. Yesterday, the president met with Senate Democrats for lunch just downstairs from me in the capitol. He will be back here to meet with Senate Republicans and in a separate meeting with democrats in the house. I guess the proof will be in the pudding. Will he be able to get any details not only on the budget, but gun legislation, Immigration Reform and more, well see how that plays out. But the question remains, is this an isolated event or has this been going on for a while. Now, 59yearold debra is charged with child endangerment. This is after another employee at the preschool told police that she saw debra grass pouring a crushed substance into some of the kids cups and it was admitted later it was somonex. You dont know how long its been going on. Im not sure anyone can give you a real answer about it. Investigators are hoping to get those answers. But they say they are frustrated because they tell us they did not get a call from the school until three days after the incident. Now, at this point, Morgan Hill Police are talking with parents about their childrens experience at the school, hoping to get more information. Now, in our next hour of mornings on 2, detectives say theres some critical things they could have done have they been called to the school earlier. All boeing 787s were grounded last january after two separate incidents involving those batteries. S. Airlines in the month of january. More than 93 of all of the burlingamebased virgin american flights landed within 14 minutes of their scheduled time. That pushed hawaiian air down to number two. But now the date has been pushed back to march 30th for reopening. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Firefighters say it appears an electrical problem may be to blame. Someone who lives near the popular haightashbury restaurant named baconbacon doesnt like the smell of the items. The Restaurant Owner says hes trying to work with the neighbor. But if his complaint is not resolved, baconbacon may be shut down. The owner says hes willing to put in a filtration system to keep the smell of bacon from drifting into his neighbors yard but before he can do that, he needs another permit from the city to install any new equipment. A young couple in Mendocino County is facing serious serious charges in a disturbing child entertainment case. Police arrested 22yearold samantha del valle and Raymond Mayberry on tuesday. Those arrests came after the womans toddler son was taken to the hospital with a dangerous amount of drugs and alcohol in his system. Sheriff deputies say the couple was drunk and high on drugs when the deputies arrived at their home. They found open bottles of alcohol and Drug Paraphernalia within the childs reach. A 24yearold woman has been arrested accused of kicking a toddler at a playground at San Franciscos golden gate park. Police say sabrina bell kicked the 1yearold girl in the chest on monday. They say she also threatened to kill other children at the playground before running away. Police eventually arrested bell not far from the park. The little girl suffered minor bumps and bruises and did not need to go to the hospital. She was visiting the area to be a flower girl in a wedding. San jose police are busy and they are hoping that newly released photos of two people suspected of violently stealing a womans purse may help lead to an arrest. Be on the lookout for these two robbery suspects who they say worked as a team. Both the young woman and man are in their early 20s and targeted that female passenger on the light rail. Just before 7 00 p. M. On february 6th, that victim walked off the race street light rail. Police say the female suspect followed her, punched her, kicked her to the ground. The male suspect snatched her purse. Both rode away on bicycles. We spoke to a woman who rides the light rail and she said she tries to Pay Attention to passengers but theres only so much she can do. The driver is not visibility, at least on the bus. The driver can see but on the light rail, they are up in front, so theres no one else thats gonna have your back besides yourself. Police in pleasanton searching for a bank robber. It happened around 11 00 Tuesday Morning at the wells fargo. The man approached the teller with a note saying he was robbing a bank and got away with cash. Hes described as african american, between 30 and 40 years old, between 510 and 6 feet tall. He has black hair, brown eyes and a goatee. A sacramento couple is being charged with running an International Phone trafficking ring worth 4 million. The 39yearold man and his wife are accused of recruiting Homeless People to buy hundreds of smartphones with fake contracts. Prosecutors say the couple then shipped the phones to hong kong and sold them for as much as 2,000 each. San franciscos District Attorney is pushing the cell phone industry to change how it deals with stolen phones. George gascon want the Cell Phone Companies to disable phones that are reported stolen. He says that would make cell phones a less valuable target for thieves. Its a program thats already in place in other countries, including australia. Right now, about half the robberies in San Francisco involve cell phones. This is interesting a new report shows almost 80 , 80 of Young Americans between the ages of 12 and 17 sewn a cell phone and nearly half of them are smartphones. Thats having a big effect on how these young people access the web. The Pew Institute survey finds one in four young people say they mostly get online using their phones and half of the young smartphone owners say that, in fact, is their favorite way to access the web. That compares to 15 of older adults who access the nest mostly by cell phone. 8 04. As we told you moments ago, an alarming threat was made at Foothill High School in pleasanton. The man has been charged with a felony drug charge. They didnt seek animal cruel cruelty charges because cruelty charges because they cant name who is responsible for the death. It was a month ago that Police Responded to a disturbance at the home of a person identified as xavier or kayla moore. That individual described as a 347pound schizophrenic who apparently died from some violent reactions during the police confrontation. Our detectives are still working on the case. He says Police Released a photo of him identifying him as a possible gang member wanted in a shooting. He claims hes had trouble finding work since then and is seeking compensation from the city. The City Attorney has not commented on the suit. Santa clara county supervisors have decided on a date for a special election to replace george shirakawa. The special election will take place on june 4th. There will likely be a Runoff Election in july if a candidate gets no more than 50 of the vote. Shirakawa pled guilty of abusing public fund and political donations. Reporter well, the coroner says the family needs to be notified. We know shes 31. Investigators believe she fell asleep at the wheel or had some alcohol. They were not sure because the investigation is so preliminary. Around 5 30 this morning, a tow truck removed her pickup truck from a ditch along 101 northbound between novato and petaluma. Officers say about three hours earlier, they received a 911 call from a passenger inside that pickup who had been injured. If he hadnt been able to make that call, no one knows how long it would have taken to even notice this vehicle. It was down a ditch and difficult to see. Officers say it appears that the woman drifted into the Center Divider overcorrected and then ended up in the ditch. This is a dangerous area. The long wait, almost over now for you drivers on highway 1 on the San Mateo County coast. Caltrans announced the highway 1 twin tunnels of devils slide will finally open in less than two weeks. If you live around this area, and you commute around this area as we take a look at highway 1, you know about the hairpin turns. You know about the traffic conditions and the land slides. If you do commute around here, it mark the 25th of march as the devils slide tunnels, they will officially be opened. Now, caltrans made that announcement on tuesday. The project took about 30 years in planning and construction for the residents and visitors that come in and out of Half Moon Bay, the tunnels which are 4200 feet long underneath San Pedro Mountain. They will give motorists at least a safer way to travel. The area is known to have land slides. This section of highway 1 would be closed sometimes for sometime for months. Some would be forced to find other ways to get around. The road when it closes, it hurts businesses. When this section of road is washed out or disabled, the local economies just are devastated by that. And that just it just cant happen anymore. Reporter now, with the twin tunnels days away from opening, Officials Say commuters wont have to worry about some of the hairpin turns and hopefully some of the accidents reported will decrease. Now were seeing a little bit more of it from our camera here in emeryville. East 80 may be slow in richmond. But west 80 is slow in pockets from the bay bridge toll plaza. At the toll plaza, we have a 25 minute delay waiting to get into San Francisco. Its been kind of slow this morning. We havent seen a lot of improvement yet. If you are driving we mentioned the east shore, i wanted to show you the pinole area and vallejo, that whole area has been slow. Theres also some slow traffic approaching the Richmond Bridge heading over to marin. Lets go to mark. Hi there, sal. The fog is beginning to lift in a few spots. A shortage of homes for sales is creating bidding wars for some properties. Just 366 homes were sold at foreclosure in san mateo, contra costa, alameda and santa clara counties during february. Four people are recovering from injuries this morning after a fire exploded when a tugboat hit a gas pipeline in a shallow louisiana bayou. The tugboat was pushing an oil barge in a bayou 30 miles south of new orleans last night. Both vessels were engulfed in flames around 6 00 p. M. When the boat struck the pipeline.
