Cbs news legal analyst jack ford is looking at the nbas options in this case. Jack, good morning. Good morning, charlie. Suppose they can absolutely identify this as sterlings voice. What are the nbas options . You know, the commissioner, as with most commissioners of professional leagues, has very broad powers. Those broad powers allow him to act, the magic words are in the best interests of the league if theres conduct detrimental to the league. Weve seen in the past where commissioners have stepped up and said to owners im going to suspend you for a period of time and impose a fine because we believe your conduct was indeed detrimental. So i think youre certainly going to see it sounds like youre going to see some period of suspension, some type of a fine. But can they force the owner to sell the team . Thats the tougher question. Could they try . Yes. Would there be huge legal hurdles . Absolutely. Youd have antitrust issues. It would be tough to go into a court of law and say were going to force him to give up his property, what he owns, because of comments. Not conduct, comments. As trouble, as awful as they may be. So that, i think, would be a very big hurdle for them to get over. This is not just about the clippers, though, this is about the entire nba. And the commissioner works for the owners of the teams. So how does that factor into his decisionmaking . There are some difficult ironies here. The commissioner is hired and works for the owners, yet here the commissioner is saying i am going to tell you what youre going to do and im going to impose sanctions on you as owners. And the owners, we heard mark cuban say this, the owners are in a tough situation because they want something to be done, but as mark cuban said, the notion, setting a precedent saying we can take your team away from you, again, for not conduct, youre not a financial disaster, but we can take your team away from you because of what you thought and what you said, the owners i think would have a hard time with that. They might not say it, so heyre in a difficult situation. I think youre going to see something definitive and fairly soon. Jack ford, thank you so much.
