Its causing flooding this morning also around the Golden Gate Bridge, we have heavy rain in the city of San Francisco bay district, bay shore, mission district, you have been seeing some rain. Check this out, down the bay area, its been quiet there with only the gusty winds and now the rain is filling in as well. This is it. This is what we have been tracking since friday and this is the center of the core of the area of low pressure well defined were going to have unstable air mass through friday triggering showers. This plume of moisture is going to cause the heaviest rainfall. And then gradually into the peninsula and the south bay until 3 p. M. Behind it, once that front passes, a lot of moderate to light rainfall behind it still. Because this is subtropical in nature, we have very loud temperatures in the mid60s and currently 68 degrees. Its 68 in livermore. The winds have been gusting at 17 Miles Per Hour. 40 Miles Per Hour in berkeley. Gusty winds along the bridges these are sustained winds. These are damaging winds. Thats why we have a highwind warning in effect today and were talking about 80mileperhour winds and plus that in the highest elevations of the bay area. You couple them with the rain amounts. 9inches of rain in 24 hours. Highest elevations of the north bay. 24inches across the urban areas, one of the latest models suggests that we will see 2inches of rain between 7 00 a. M. And 9 00 a. M. Thats on top of the 10inches that fell last week we. We have a flash watch for today. Todays numbers, into the 60s. Scattered showers tomorrow. Drying out, assess the damage on saturday and sunday before we introduce more rain showers into the forecast on monday through wednesday. Thats our eye on the storm. Eye on traffic with elizabeth. Its a clogged storm drain causing the problems out in windsor. The lanes are still closed and shutting down traffic approaching the lane. Minor delays at the scene. In fact, the city has released an unpresident ed number of sandbags in the past 24 hours 4,000 sandbags to homeowners here in the city and looks like theyre going to need them because the rain is not letting up any time soon. Theyre taking it slow into the 7 00 hour, now starting to pick up in terms of ground traffic as a result, they have canceled up to 170 flights incoming and outgoing and the airport has now instituted the flight Delay Program. Thats all arriving flights in between 8 00 a. M. To 11 00 p. M. Today are subject to delays on average of 220 minutes. Thats up to 4 hours of a flight delay if youre coming in, please call your airlines, check your flight. Theres a good chance youll be waiting. See how the strong winds are blowing the flags and the flag poles, thats been the case all morning long. In fact, theres a highwind advisory on the Richmond Bridge. Theyre telling big rig drivers to avoid this bridge. Even with that advisory, i notice big rigs using this bridge. Theres one now about to get on the bridge as we speak. Lets show you some video that was shot earlier around 3 00 this morning. A large tree came down on to the eastbound direction of 80 and shut down all lanes in that eastbound direction. At one point, they reopened and was able to chop the tree up, clear it to the shoulder and able to reopen all lanes by 5 45. Lets come back live now. The orange indicates a heavy downpour and what concerns me now, were picking up slices of red on the open waters it will skate over to the bay area and we have another cell offshore. Everyone is getting hit from oakland to the bay bridge to the city of San Francisco. You can hear the rain drops on the rooftops, same story, here again, its another slice of red immediately offshore monitoring this carefully for the potential of thunderstorm activity. I believe this is what they were alluding to, it suggested in the city of San Francisco between 7 00 and 9 00, well see two full inches of rain this is the area of low pressure, this is the powerful storm out of the pacific that were talking and tracking since last friday. We couldnt see that yesterday, its wrapping around, its tight, its going to bang up against the state of california. Behind it, unstable air mass will keep us into the scattered showers until friday. This is a plume of moisture. Its all the way back to hawaii. The wettest weather, its in the north bay right now until about 9 00 this morning and the gustiest winds as well. Now, as the winds continue to blow across the peninsula, we have this highwind warning in effect. Gusts up to 50 around the urban areas. 80plus gusts in the highest elevations. 9inches of rain will fall over the next 24 hours. With the rain heavy at times, settling down in the evening hours leaving you with scattered showers and a chance of a thunderstorm well see some lateday clearing, drying of the skies, that leads to the potential of showers returning to the bay area on monday through wednesday. Were getting a good look at what is going on out there now. I know. We knew it was going to come down hard. We knew where to send our news crews. It always tends to flood in this area, were seeing the same things in the northbound lanes now. Chp warning, there was up to 6 of water. They were also busy with the storm working on Power Outages around the bay area this morning, busy trimming trees to prevent outages, extra crews on the job and theyre warning people to be careful around downed power lines. Customers see trees coming into contact with lines and most importantly, if they see a line down, assume that that line is live and call 911. The storm has called positiver outages Power Outages for thousands across the bay. The peninsula has about 3,000 customers affected. All that heavy rain has been falling steadily in the north bay. You can finally get a little daylight now as folks run down the 101. Santa rosa has strong winds and rainmaking conditions rough. Were seeing some significant damage. Around the ocean beach area, the great highway beach closed. High winds blowing. Drivers headed to the mountains are warned they could face white conditions. Lets kick it over to roberta track degrees storm. The weather is getting worse. The National Weather service has just issued a Flash Flood Warning heavy rainfall, when you see the areas of red, thats a very heavy downpour and it could produce up to an inch of rain per hour we have heavy rainfall throughout the north bay since 3 00 this morning. Its now sliding to the south. San francisco, south San Francisco hit with heavy rainfall. East bay, youve been hearing the wind now we have the rain entering the 680 corridor. This is the big picture, this is a powerful pacific storm this was the core way back here what were appearancing is here. Its tapping into the tropical moisture and it goes back into the Hawaiian Islands. Right now, the main event in the north bay, it has been since 3 00 this morning. Everything shifting into the central bay and east bay. It will worsen as the day progresses this front is powerful. Look at the temperatures, its 68 degrees in livermore, but boy, the rain is blowing sideways 40 in fremont, 44 in the bay after experiencing wind gusts earlier. Behind that slice, that frontal boundary, the winds dial back. Now at 11, the winds lessen in the north and central bay up to 20 Miles Per Hour meanwhile, we have the high wind warning in place we will see downed trees and over 80mileperhour winds nine inches of rain in 24 hours. Thats a lot of water all at once. There is flooding taking place in the north bay. There will continue to be flooding. 24inches expected across the bay area. 7 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Thats why we have a Flash Flood Watch in effect before the entire bay area. Some sunshine that will be most welcomed over the weekend. Increase in cloud cover on sunday will lead to the potential of a minor storm system bringing more showers monday through wednesday. The north bay is take degrees brunt of the big storm. Braving the elements. Reporter it has not let up for a minute. Im in downtown, im on the sidewalk and im standing now in about 45 inches of water. Walking down the sidewalk, you can see varying levels you dont know whats under you on the sidewalk. Im not going on to the roadway where we saw a truck pass through. Public works is letting people know this is flooded and some decide to gun it and go on through the water and everybodys made it so far, others decided to turn around. At the Hardware Store, they were prepared for this. Another truck is going to make the attempt. You can see a little closer how deep the water is now. Its over the top of the wheel wells thats a powerful truck. Its swimming now. As i said, its not let up for a minute since about 3 3 00 p. M. Here in downtown. If it continues, its hard to tell how deep it could get. She said it got almost this bad last week. It shows no sign of flooding.
