In other news today, the hunt is on this morning for the suspect in a mysterious quadruple murder in washington, d. C. Overnight Police Revealed 34yearold Daron Dylon Wint is wanted for the killing of savvas and Amy Savopoulos and their son and housekeeper. Wyatt andrews is at the crime scene with new details about what happened. Wyatt, good morning. Reporter good morning. Police say the suspect, Daron Dylon Wint is from maryland 34 years old. They dont know where he is but the manhunt is on. Wint has a criminal record that includes Second Degree assault and burglary but he is now the prime suspect in a slew of crimes here that includes arson, kidnapping, a quadruple homicide, along with the possibility of extortion and extreme cruelty. Police believe that wint and possibly other assailants held the family captive overnight last wednesday eventually torturing them until death but while holding the family in terror, they took time to order a Dominos Pizza online with instructions that it be left outside. That pizza gave the police their biggest lead. The Washington Post reports that dna left on the Leftover Pizza crust matched the dna of Daron Dylon Wint. What theyll find in this person is that hes very psychopathic. Reporter former fbi profiler Mary Ellen Otoole says the ordering of pizza while holding captives in a state of terror fits the pattern of a diagnosable psychopath someone without remorse. Their ability to do this order a pizza, you have to imagine that the victims are crying theyre scared they may even be having a physical reaction. These offenders continue to do what theyre doing. Last thursday in the hours before the savopoulos family home went up into flames an assistant so salve vos savopoulos was instructed to bring 40,000 and leave the money outside. Investigators think its possible that money was an extortion payment that savopoulos had to pay to stop the physical abuse of his family including the torture of his tenyearold son phillip. Police have confirmed that three of the four victims were beaten or stabbed before the fire and the shocking realization that assailants would harm a child has made the crime a priority for the d. C. Crews are rushing to protect the coastline from a large oil spill that stretches nine miles. Some 20,000 gallons may have reached the ocean after a pipeline ruptured tuesday. These will have to be cleaned by hand. The full Environmental Impact of the spill is unknown but we are seeing the first victims. Two days before the memorial day holiday weekend, this stretch of coastline looks more like a hazmat team than a place for beachgoers. Workers in white protective suits and helmets are scooping up lumps of crude from the blackened sand and hauling it off in clear plastic bags. The owner of the rupture pipe plains all american pipeline is taking full responsibility. We apologize for the damage done to the wildlife and environment. We are here to make it right. Reporter so far, skimmer boats and vacuum trucks have reportedly collected at least 6,000 gallons of oil. A fraction of the 100,000 gallons that may have leaked from the pipe. The crude is threatening area wildlife. Santa barbara countys District Attorney is considering criminal and civil charges against the pipeline owners. Animals have died and suffered. The effect this oil will have will last a lifetime and we want to hold whoever is responsible for this responsible. Reporter it wouldnt be the first legal trouble for plains all american pipeline. The company was forced to pay 44 million in pipe upgrades and Civil Penalties five years ago after ten leaks around the country. In the meantime, several thousand people who usually visit this popular camping and sunbathing destination will be turned away as two state beaches will remain closed through the holiday weekend. We realize its an inconvenience and we know that peoples plans, especially over this weekend and next weekend will be impacted by these activities. Reporter plains all american says this particular pipe was not part of the 2010 settlement upgrade but they say theres never been a problem with it before. It will be some time before they figure out exactly what caused it to rupture, though. Theyll have to wait until the clean up is over before they can excavate around that pipe. Carter thank you. We are following a stunning battlefield advance for isis in syria. A Monitoring Group claims the Islamic State now controls more than half of syrian territory. That includes some of the most important Cultural Treasures in the ancient city of palmyra. Fighters from the Extremist Group overran the Syrian Government forces in the city last night. This is the second Major Military victory for isis in just five days. For a week, the ancient city of palmyra was the center of fierce fighting. Fighter jets pounded their positions but last night isis claimed victory. The fall of palmyra is a strategc loss for the syrian regime. The stip is surrounded by gas field. But it also puts the future of some of the countrys most precious Culture Heritage in jeopardy. Isis has destroyed many Cultural Relics in territory its seized condemning them as unislamic. Its also crudely excavated sites, trafficking in stolen antiquities is a big money maker for the group. It has been two days since the largest and most complex auto recall in history. At this this point not only are most cars not fixed if, most drivers dont even know if their vehicle is affected and likely wont for some time. Testing on takata air bags is ongoing at locations here and abroad. But because of the limited supplies the fixes will focus first on states with humid weather. Takata has still not named a root cause but the national Highway Traffic Administration nhtsa, believes moisture in high humidity regions leaks into the air bags inflator. When this happens, the explosive force can rupture the metal casing sending shrapnel into drivers or passengers. The numbers are staggering. Its a problem and confusing for consumers that have these vehicles because you cant get them fixed right away. Reporter one reason this recall is so confusing is that its issued by takata.
