We also have some great guests here in studio 57 this morning including acclaiming director of black swan around the wrestler erin vary november ski and next to him, John Carter Cash the only child of June Carter Cash and johnny cash. Hell talk about the release of the lost album the man in black. The chef who learned how to cook from the queen of mexican food. Plus wait till you hear st. Paul and the broken bones and their television debut. Great band. But we begin with new debris found in the search for that missing malaysian aircraft. A new shift lead to the discovery now closer to the australian coast. Holly williams is in perth, australia, the nerve center looking to find the missing boeing 777. Good morning, holly. Whats the latest. Reporter good morning. The weather has taken a turn for the worst which could slow down the search for the Malaysia Airlines flight 370. Its been three weeks since the plane mysteriously disappeared but not a single piece of wreckage has been discovered. For ten days now a fleet of search planes has been combing the seas of the southern indian ocean hunting for fragments of flight 370. We should not underestimate the difficulty of this work. It is an extraordinarily remote location. These are inhospitable seas its an inaccessible place, we are trying to find small bits of wreckage in a vast ocean, and while we are trying everything we have at it the task goes on. Reporter twice this week the planes were grounded by high winds and rough seas in the search area 1,500 miles off australias west coast. Even in good weather radar proved ineffective, so they relied on the human eye to spot debris. When we flew with the crew of this new zealand p30 ryan aircraft we found something, hopeful it might be part of the wreckage from the malaysia jet airliner. Its affecting a lot of people so definitely, you know, to come out and put closure on it would be awesome. Reporter the blue object later turned out to be marine life, probably a killer whale. On thursday new images from japanese and thai satellite show large objects floating in the ocean, some more than 50 feet long. That sparked hopes that the wreckage would soon be found but on friday came the frustrating news that the search crews had been looking in the wrong place. Investigators analyzing the flight data decided the plane had probably crashed 700 miles northeast of where theyd originally thought. This is the most confused contradictory, frustrating search investigation ive ever come across. Mind you, its most bizarre. No ones lost a plane like this in the modern era. Reporter theyll undergo a search today. The plan now is to find the flight black boxes or flight recorders to find out what could have gone wrong. Joining us now is Mark Rosenker former chairman of the National Transportation safety board and cbs news aviation analyst. Good morning. Good morning, anthony good morning, vinita. We keep meeting like this every weekend unfortunately mark. Are the searches in the right place now . I hope so but im cautiously optimistic. Weve begun a Serious Investigation and search and recovery. Weve not been able to touch, feel identify validate anything from this aircraft. Until we do that, we dont know where this aircraft is and we have to use our best science and analysis to be looking where it is. Perhaps this is the spot. When you look at the map you get a clear sense that obviously this new area is close to land. Does that make it easier for investigators . It certainly does. They dont have to fly as far. They can stay on the point much longer than they were, but still were in a very difficult and challenging part of the world and as a result of that this is going to be a very long very costly and unfortunately a very frustrating investigation thus far. What does this shift tell us if anything about what happened . We know that the aircraft based on the science and analysis that were getting from both the data coming from the satellite and also the radar that this aircraft was moving faster than they anticipated it was at the original point back down there 700 miles south of where we are right now. So basically if its moving faster its burning more fuel and thats why they think the search area could be different . Thats exactly why theyre searching where they are right now. Weve got lots of things that appear to be something in the sea. Weve got lots of aircraft out there putting eyes on it taking photographs of it. We were hoping to get analysis telling us exactly what we god but unfortunately that hasnt come to light yet. They say if any wreckage is found, it has to go back to australia. Why is that . I think that makes good sense. It needs a consolidation point. That point is australia. It will enable us to put the pieces back together to do a forensic investigation. Frankly the australians are good at this. I know they were when i worked for the ntsb. I know when the black box is under water we lose the signal. Certainly the pinging of the black boxes, we would like to have an area where we could begin to do that search right now, but im more concerned right now of validating that were in the right place. Right. Then the work will be done by the oceanographers and the climbing to gra fehrs and those who have to show us where the spot was and the original point of people in los angeles are assessing the damage this morning after a magnitude 5 earthquake struck. There were dozens of aftershocks. The earthquake broke water mains, gas line cut power to thousands of customers and knocked bottles and dishes off shelves. The people in this car suffered injuries after a rockslide knocked this car on to its roof. They felt the tremer in the ballpark. A little tremor in the ballpark. Im not sure if the folks felt it but we felt it in press row. A tremor an only that thank goodness. More aftershocks could occur over the next several days. Smoke and flames lit up the sky in des moines when a fire tore through an old building that was under construction. Parts of it collapsed. There was no injuries wu bier facials cleared sidewalks and evacuated connecting buildings in downtown. The building attracted thousands of businesses in. We shift the heavy rain now. John blackstone is in washington with the latest president good morning, john. Reporter good morning. Well, search officials here are now acknowledging that a week after this landslide theres little chance that anyone could have survived under the mud and wreckage. For the people in this valley this has been a week of grieving and loss. What is now called tim pact zone was until a week ago, the community of oso, population of 180. When the landslide hit, this man was sitting in his recliner. Noise started build and building, i looked over my shoulder and the trees were windmill windmilling. Than no seconds later, this huge crash. I had my legs out in my recliner like this. A huge crash that was unbelievably loud. These volunteer firefighters were among the first to reach the scene. Weve seen a lot of things in the four years that weve been doing this up here but nothing could ever make you imagine that you were ever going to see the things that weve seen since saturday morning. Take a square mile of land scoop it all up at least 40 feet deep pile on trees rocks, everything put it into a blender, blend it until its chopped out and pour it on the ground. Thats what we were in. It was things that i never want to see again reporter is search the personal that they know some of those that are missing. Alan worked with them on their farm. Deanna is alans mother. He was laughing when he was young. He was with his fiancee when the landslide struck. I could picture them in the kitchen. I dont know what hit them and thats how im picturing it. Reporter mack mcfearson managed to dig himself out but linda, his wife of 46 years was killed. She was the cartwheel. She made it all go around. Reporter the week ahead is likely to be no easier than the week that has just passed here and conditions for searchers could just get worse. This rain is forecast to last for most of the week. John blackstone in washington thank you. Russian president and president obama have spoken again about the crisis in ukraine. They talked about what russias plans are for ukraine. In the kremlins account of the conversation that the white house described as frank and direct putin raised concerns about what he described as extremists in ukraine. President obama demanded putin pull back the tens of thousands of combat ready Russian Troops who are on ukraines border. He spoke with scott pelley in rome. Youve seen a range of troops massing along that border under the guise of military exercises. But these are not what russia would normally be doing. It may simply be an effort to intimidate ukraine or it may be that theyve got additional plans. In either case what we need right now to resolve and deescalate the situation would be for russia to move back those troops and to begin negotiations directly with the Ukrainian Government and the international community. What is Vladimir Putin after . If you take him at his word can you . Well on this i think hes been willing to show a deeply held grievance about what he considers tore the loss of the soviet union. I think theres a strong sense of russian nationalism and a sense that somehow the west has taken advantage of russia in the past and that he wants to in some fashion, reverse that or make up for that. The president is on his way back to the United States from saudi arabia where he met with the countrys leader. The deadline for signing up for Health Care Insurance under obamacare is set for monday. But it will be extended for some americans. Here to help us explain what that means is louise. Good morning to you. Thanks for having me. The announcement that the extension is being extended. Are there still problems with the website . Well federal officials have likened the official to people still being in line on election day waiting for the polls to close. They said the people in that situation will be allowed to continue and finish their applications even after march 31st has passed at midnight. Those are the people who will be able to take advantage of the extension. Essentially though its based on an honor system. People coming to the site after march. 1st will be told that its closed. But if they would like to carry on because they began before theyre allowed to continue. So if you dont sign up by the 31st are you going to be penalized in some way . The penalty has shifted around a little bit as well. The standard has been that if you had signed up by march 31st for coverage that might not take effect for another month, you wouldnt be sukt to the penalty. And as long as you were trying to sign up by march 31st some type of documentation might be required for that that will be sufficient to avoid the penalty which applies to most americans, starts at 90. But there are quite a few exception to that too. We keep hearing the 6 Million People. Why is that number so significant . Well its a hugely symbolic victory for the administration. Its what the Budget Office has had projected that the signup numbers would be for 2014. So to go from reports that on the first day only 6 people made it through, to 6 million over six months u suggests theyve been able to turn around the problems on the website to make it functionablel for the people. Paying the first premium is the first step. Thats for insurer es to say. But that actually defines enrollment. Now to college basketball. The ncaa tournament gets down to the elite eight this weekend. Last nights action the wildcats turn things around in the game to declare victory over louisville. Eel play second seeds michigan tomorrow. Connecticut was a surprise winner against iowa state. Theyll square off against number four Michigan State in the east regional final tomorrow. Here to talk about what weve seen and what to expect is cbs Sports College basketball insider john. I know louisville was your pick for all of this. You had to bring that up. I dont know that the interview is getting off to the right start. I dont think anybody has grasped the magnitude. They played the team that has been in back to back fours. This was at the football stadium and the wildcats played the majority of the game with five freshmen on the floor. Theres still a cinderella in the game. Dayton won again. Warren buffet is sleeping pretty well dow. Dayton theyve ignited an unbelievable turn around. Out of all of the teams playing right now the ncaa tournament dayton is by far the deepest player. They have nine players averaging 11 1 2 minutes per game. In the elite eight now, what are the games you want to be watching . Kentucky and michigan is one tomorrow were arizona and wisconsin is an interesting showdown. Its a great contrast in styles. But you also have two of the coaches, bo ryan and sean miller who are elite coaches in the final four but they havent gotten to the final four. So today one of those coaches will get to the most hall lowed showcase in the sport. Coaches have always told me that the game to get to the final four is the most pressure packed four because it sets you apart from your pierce. So with louisville gone who do you like now . Thats a tough question. I will admit that the florida team weve seen this year doesnt have the pro potential of Billy Donovans teams that won backtoback championships. But the 0 cohesiveness willing to sacrifice and the balance is reminiscent of that team. Florida has yet to lose a game yet. Im just curious, what about the manhattan coach. The coach that was supposed to go to south florida for 6 million. He loses it all because he didnt have a degree. When you think about the dynamics of this whole thing, here is somebody who was matched up against his mentor three days later he gets the break of a lifetime has a 6 Million Contract in his hand and less than 24 hours of agreeing to the terms on the job, it turns out he didnt have a degree from kentucky. It was an amazing roller coaster. You can see every moment of the action here on cbs. And an tbs. Log on to cbs sports. Com. Tomorrow morning on face the nation should College Athletes be paid .
