Group of conservative Hispanic leaders had met when the White House chief of staff John Kelly accusing Democrats of playing politics. Joining us now is the president of the Latino partnership for conservative principles former chief of the u.s. Office in citizenship Welcome back to the program thank you Laurie how did your meeting go yesterday I think it was of the meeting very substantive the 1st time I mean with General Kelly and he understands the issue of immigration a d.h.s.s. Materials and was there as well and 1st of all I can tell that the present United States is really committed in helping to dreamers that proposal to provide 1800000 of them a path to legal status and a path to citizenship is a serious proposal and it's clear that they're not thinking about this from Politico in political terms that they won the Hispanic vote they're doing it because they think it's a right but Democrats say that the president is playing politics with this and that he using dreamers to push the wall now that you know Democrats really want a compromise or do they want to run on then you know it in their in the mid terms Laurent back in 2013 I supported the Gang of 8 in the Senate it was in a beautiful bill but I supported it because I thought it was time to get the ball rolling to get the debate going and then I criticize Republicans for not doing anything I think what we're seeing right now it's interesting the other way around it's Democrats are not willing to negotiate with the White House and with Republicans right now they're negotiating with the Republicans of choice McCain Graham Flake who are outliers and Dungarpur send a majority of the Republican caucus in the Senate so I think this is a framework that is balance and look we need compromise this is a very complex issue and that means that both sides are going to have to accept things that they like Ok well let's take a look at Republican Senator John McCain Democrat Chris Coons who have put together a bill they say that they have provided a way to this pathway to legal status. The president dismissed it out of hand is this dead in the water it's dead because the only recently why we have a chance to get something done for the dreamers and I know some people may not like this it's because of Donald Trump he can put pressure on Republicans look Senator cotton of Arkansas who's generally an immigrant came support of the person's framework again the wall Democrats have supported fencing in the past they voted for the Secure Fence Act in 2006 in terms of doing away with legal with illegal immigration you know they are making some statements that are really over the top saying that this is draconian it's taking us back to the 1920 s. This cuts would take years to materialize 15 years and some of these are categories even 5 decades and even when that happens. We would still be receiving hundreds of thousands of immigrants mostly from Latin America and Asia so when as he pulls the say is this is a company to make America light again it's insulting it's intellectually insulting enough with the vitriol it's time to compromise both extremes don't like the president's plan I think that shows that it's a mother proposal Ok thank you so much Alphonso are you allowed President of the Latino partnership for conservative principles he met with Chief of Staff John Kelly at the White House yesterday. Unfortunately nothing had been moving yet and that's why we also coming back again and urging the government please speed the process do it now the u.s. Government. Yes yes indeedy still nothing nothing of a bribe yet you and your brother bishops with Pope Francis yesterday what did you tell him about the crisis in the end of the plane. We have shared with him our big concern concerning the. Situation of the families as you have and definitely you know that the destruction is from 30 percent to 80 percent and certain and certain villages we need the help I'm afraid that we have to rely again on churches and on our brothers and sister Christians again in helping us rebuilding these villages so we shared these these concerns with them and we told them Your Holiness your call and your prayer is very important as it was always important because over the last 3 years and I have the solidarity which we have experience for all of the brothers and sisters Christians around the world. Will all be a help that we have received have really meant in the Christian presence now it's time for rebuilding and I think saying all the situation I think we have to rely again so we should do this with him and we ask His Holiness really to again make the call quite strong full for helping Christians rebuilding their villages Yes I was there with e-mail and you have done just an amazing job with the limited amount of money that you do have now the decedent on the rack invited the pope to visit one. A papal visit mean to the Christians there. It's a big a big sign of hope and encouragement It's a message that. We need to there in Iraq. So his holiness if he would make it this would be really a big a big support for the Christian presence you know I do believe that we have a mission so when his holiness will come and be with us there he would really give us the the sign of hope and strength to continue the mission so hopefully we are praying since yesterday we start praying full of this well you know those prayers are going to be the key if it's going to happen Archbishop Bashar ward or bail around and so lovely to have you back on the program thank you very much and thank you God bless you Christian group in Jerusalem says the city experienced a quote extraordinary boom in pilgrimages last month the Christian information that a reports nearly 26000 kilograms in the Holy Land in January 770 tour groups arrive nearly double the number from 2 years ago the biggest increase comes from China Russia and Eastern Europe a new ambassador at large for International Religious freedoms that he will approach the subject with great humility and Brownback former Republican governor and senator from Kansas spoke at a conference in Washington d.c. Every night of Monday evening on understand The pro-life thing or who made quite a splash at this year's Grammy Awards her new album rocketed to the top of the charts she hand painted her own son a gram of a baby she gave up for adoption on to a wedding dress and wore it proudly on the red carpet at the Grammys her purse red choose life. And now we're joined by the recording artist from New York welcome to the program Joy thanks for coming. Thank you for inviting me it's a pleasure to be here tell me why you decided to share your pro life use in the form of fashion for the Grammys in such a big way. Well for me at the right carb it is something I use for my value system I decided that you know I really want to be an activist for the things I hold dear and I am proudly pro-life I am a woman who is not ashamed to talk about that I've had a personal experience with them and I really wanted to share love and choosing life over death and I think it needs to be talked about a lot more what do you say to critics who say you just wanted publicity because you're a singer *. I would thing 1st of all everyone wants publicity when they are. Truly kind of the red card written for. But I would like to use the publicity for something positive which is why I choose chose a positive message this time at the Grammys I wanted to showcase love I chose a personal message and I really wanted to bring light to something that's not talked about we never see pro-life. And it really you know and it's something that's important I did a commentary on just that after the Grammys when I saw you go by and it actually. Was picked up by media you referenced your life experience that led you to defend the unborn tell us a little bit more about that about 10 years ago I found myself on way in an abusive relationship that was really hard. The father of my child actually I found myself pregnant and the father just turned into drug abuse and physical abuse so I knew I had to get out of there and I went to the doctors to get a pregnancy test when I thought I was pregnant and the nurse told me I should get an abortion she told me flat out you were too young to be pregnant I just turned 20 she said you need to get an abortion if that is the answer it'll make it all go away it's easy there was a lot of pressure we can do it now it's free and I walked out of there crying because I knew that that baby's life deserved to be lived and I knew that that child needed to have a 2nd chance at life were 1st chance at life so I chose adoption and I got to my baby out to a beautiful loving family it's in and an open adoption so I get to see her I get to know her she calls me Mama Joy and it was a celebration of life in a situation that was really a crisis and something really hard and that's why I encourage women to do that to choose life and to look at other options besides get like abortion and you have the an album called Home sweet home that is number 2 on Amazon and you tell us about that to reflect your views in their home sweet home is an album it's a new e.p. It's getting a lot of great fix that it was like my American values because America is my home sweet home I travel $35.00 countries I love being here I love the rights of freedoms we have and to voice our opinions to voice our views and so that will be a celebration of that and you'll see a lot of my my political stance but also my personal stance your truly being prole pro-life is a personal issue I don't think it should be political I think it should be looked at is something very personal in some. Done in love and not in judgment here political conservative and a big supporter of President Trump the war a Make America Great Again dress at last year's Grammy what kind of reaction do you get in the music industry to your views. Wow I get a lot of hate I'll be honest with you if I didn't say that it would be disingenuous but I get a lot of negativity becomes kind of hard to read comments sometimes online and I get people who say really nasty things even to my face like death threat and Willie It shows the hypocrisy of the other side because here I am a woman a strong woman a woman of color conservative woman we sharing my beliefs and what my value system is and what I believe to be right but yet they try to shut me down so I was at the One Life March the pro-life March in Los Angeles and it coincided with the women's March and I would tell you that people out there were so nasty they were screaming and yelling and there was a lot of men screaming at me saying it is not your body you don't get to decide it's not your body either and I just told that to him and I said but I love you and we ended up actually you know only a productive nation. And yet absolutely there's not enough conversations going on so many of my friends and peers in the music industry I talk to them like humans and some of them love me because they can't help but love me and some of them still hate me but that's not the price you pay for being bold and I'm not going to stop. Recording artist thank you so much for sharing your views with us. Absolutely thank you for having me on God bless you guys thank you.
