Family members tell us that today they have been talking to police and getting significant updates. Thousands of nurses who worked for Kaiser Permanente are off the job and on the picket line today. It affects some 86 facilities in Northern California. Nurses say this is a contract issue. Meanwhile the hospital is promising that services are not being adversely affected. Heres a report from walnut creek. Reporter Kaiser Permanente claims patient care was not impacted despite a twoday strike that started around 7 00 in the morning. They had ample time to prepare, ten days to fly in nurses. The last person to recover from ebola in this country. Hes the 33yearold doctor who had been treating patients in west africa. Spencer earlier got flak for flying home and socializing, traveling around the city for a week, potentially exposing others to the deadly virus. That was before he realized he was sick. Nurse kaci hickox of maine has passed the 21day incubation period with no sign of the virus. The most recent killing happened last week when a 16 yearold boy was shot down in front of his own home. The Contra Costa Sheriffs Office told us today the High School Student was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. A report now on the rash of violence that has the community stunned. Reporter yellow evidence markers on the ground at a recent shooting injuring a teenage in richmond. Just one minute later, 11 blocks away, another shooting. Three more teens wounded. Five incidents. One just outside the Iron Triangle in North Richmond. Frequency of shootings in the last couple of days has really caused tensions to escalate. Reporter Richmond Police captain mark says rpd investigators have zeroed in on the connection between the recent shootings. Reporter we believe a feud has heated up and that is responsible for about onethird of the shootings and shooting incidents weve had. And many of the other shootings can be attributed to North Richmond and the central deep sea gang feud. Reporter in addition to increasing patrols in the areas where the shootings occurred, Richmond Police are also using social media platforms like facebook to defuse the violence. As people read on, they will be able to get an update about where the violence and occurring and also what is rpd doing. I think communicating with people when they have fear and apprehension about an increase in violence its pivotal we send out these messages. And we have a very pronounced response from the Law Enforcement department where detectives are out undercover and on high visibility patrol contacting people they know at risk to being involved in this and sending a message that were watching and going to disrupt the pattern of violence. He says his Campaign Promise to restore Public Confidence in the citys commitment to Public Safety will be his top priority. Today, he talked about what he calls building bridges with the police union. Theres no secret that ive long supported the fiscal reforms that mayor reid led and i will continue to do that. On the other hand i think there are opportunities for Common Ground here where we can come to agreement with the police union particularly over changes to disability protections, strengthen those to see how we can create incentives for retirementeligible officers to stay on board a couple years while were hiring. There are a lot of opportunities, i think, for us to do that within our budget. Doing so will mean he has to build a likeminded coalition on the city council which in january will have not just a new mayor but three new City Council Members as well. The u. S. Chemical safety board is calling for major changes to californias system for regulating oil refineries. The changes are outlined in its latest report on the 2012 richmond refinery foyer. Fire. According to the csb chairman, the currently regulatory system for safety is largely reactive at both the state and federal level. Fairly widespread showers 1 00 in the Morning Hours. 3, 4 00 hours, the rain starts to shift down to the south, to the south bay. East bay will be seeing the showers. And tapering off into the later Morning Hours. 7 00, largely dry, maybe 8 00. A new lingering few lingering showers possible through the early afternoon. Rainfall totals arent going to be spectacular with this storm. Most of the rain going to miss us to the north. Maybe up to a third of an inch of rain in the north bay and a quarter of an inch of rain in San Francisco and the peninsula. A look at the extended forecast.
