Reporter city inspectors are now complaint they were investigating were of the vacant lot next door to the warehouse. Not the ghost ship warehouse itself. Reporter they were looking into reports of garbage and that lot. Reporter but this complaint log shows been to both property many times, and that they have been problems at those locations dating back nearly 30 years. Reporter chor ng and her family have owned the fire building, the lot next door since 1988 and citys complaint history log. Building inspectors have been there several times since then. Reporter there has been ten complaints made about the building and the vacant lot next door. Reporter the most recent violation coming in november after a complaint of a ton of garbage piling up. Some of the trash was hazardous. Reporter allegeding that the owner turned it to become a trash recycle site. Reporter a notice of violation was sent to the landlords po box that same department had been out there several times looking into blight complaints. Reporter other violations included grafitti and pallets and other debris blocking the sidewalks. Sometimes the reported problems cited that the vacant lot is full of inoperable vehicles, trash and debries. Reporter or concerns that it was being used a junk yard with old tires, rodents, etc. Reporter another believed it was being used as a homeless camping ground. In this email to the Department Following a the landlords daughter the space told her that people would throw huge bags of trash over the fence. And that the lot was a known dumping ground. Reporter the daughter also say they had hired someone to mow the weeds and throw out the trash at least monthy which they believe has helped the rash problem. Sot shes the type of kid that i would have expected, you know, if i was at an allday music festival, id be like, oh theres jenny i havent seen her in a longtime and say hi, you know, she was, she was that type of kid. I, just, its strange that that wont happen. Reporter were told jennifer loved to sing and played several instruments. Sot she would bring her ukulele to class almost everyday and theyd go off and all their friends would go sit in the corner and theyd sing songs together. Uh, in the choir she had everybody as her friend. Reporter now many are in mourning. But parking the 37 foot rv on city streets at night has led to complaints from neighbors, some of whom feel the mercy mobile is an eyesore and may be drawing more Homeless People into their neighborhoods. Tonight First Responders are talking about how theyre coping while handling this difficult case. Catherine and were learning that there was evidence of a fire alarm or any kind of Fire Suppression system inside the ghostship warehouse. Grant we now know the fire began on the first floor. And smoke traveled up two stairwells trapping occupants on the second floor. Federal investigators also say that the stairwells from internally down into the building rather than toward an exit. Grant atf says there is no evidence that the fire was intentionally set. 36 people died in the fire marking it the deadliest fire in the us since 2003.
