The lawsuit was filed last week by the father of one of the victims. Its just the latest in a string of lawsuits. It claims the Building Owner was aware of fire hazards but did nothing about them. It also claims the building didnt have proper Fire Prevention equipment like overhead sprinklers and smoke alarms. steve happening now in the east bay, students at Albany High School are holding a rally to denounce racism in their school. In the past week, several students at the school were disciplined for making nazi salutes in the hallways and posting racist images on instagram. Kron 4s Charles Clifford is live for us tonight at the high school with details. This afternoon, memebers of the black Student Union here at albany high held a unity rally to try and end the week on a positive note. In all 7 9th graders were recently disciplined for making racist gestures and posting racist images online. At least some of those students were allowed to return to school this week and that has many in the student body upset. At tonights, rally students say they wanted to show support for the victims of the recent problems. They also want to send a message that this sort of behavior wont be tolerated on campus. Apparently the message may have gotten through to at least one of the kids involved in the racist acdts. A teacher actually read an email she had received from one that students. Catherine Daly city police are looking for the man they say exposed himself to a 12yearold girl. Hes also accused of doing the same thing to a teenager. A suspect sketch has now been released. Police say the first incident happened monday night around 6 near westmoor park. When the man exposed himself to a 19yearold woman. They say he did it again wednesday this time to a 12Year Old Girl walking home from school on miraposa avenue. Hes exposed himself to a 12 Year Old Girl and an adult female and we want to locate him and arrest him before these acts continue. Police have released this picture of the suspects car. Its believed to be a silver or gold 2003 toyota camry. With a sticker on the drivers side bumper. steve a tragic collision between a big rig and a sports car claimed a life this morning in san jose. Video from our helicopter partnership with abc7 news shows the scene just before 8 oclock here at the intersection of park avenue and mcevoy street. Park avenue is a fairly busy thoroughfare but there is a lot of construction going on here and there is a lot of truck traffic. The car was traveling eastbound when it collided with the truck here at the intersection of mcevoy. The late model Pontiac Firebird, its roof mostly sheared away on impact, ended up pinnedbeneath the trailer of the big rig truck. The driver of the car was apparently killed on impact but a passenger in the car, a 10yearold girl, was trapped for a time and had to be rescued. Officer albert morales. Albert morales San Jose Policejust the way the car was wedged beneath the truck there was a survivor in the backseat and medical personnel and firefighters arriving on scene were able to extract the juvenile from the wreckage. She was immediately transported to a local area hospital. Unfortunately the adult make driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The young girl escaped with only minor injuries. A man on a bicycle who rides park avenue every day says the Early Morning sun can be an issue for cyclists or drivers eastbound on park butthe official cause of the crash will have to wait for the conclusion of the Police Accident investigation team. They will factor in all these things to make a final determination of what appears to have been the cause. police said it appears that the big rig was westbound on park and had just made a left ontomcevoy when the firebird slammed into the bed of the truck, whose driver was not injured. A witness who helped rescue the 10 year old reportedly told police the victim and his passengerwere father and daughter. The driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation. This was th 11th traffic fatality so far this year in the city. Now the Police Department is releasing pictures and video of the alleged thief. And a whole tray of Diamond Rings worth between 80 and 100thousand dollars. Thats what the owner of lorettas Jewelry Company on Waverly Place says was stolen last friday. When San Francisco Police Allege this man burglarized the store in broad daylight. Officer Giselle Talkoff sfpd the Jewelry Store owner was inside at the time that this occurred and was pretty rattled. The store owner says she was standing right behind the counter inside at around three oclock in the afternoon that day. When she saw the suspect use a hammer to bash this window three times before it eventually broke. And, then thats when he grabbed the jewelry and then ran off. Officer Giselle Talkoff sfpd they knew what they were doing. Went in, grabbed it and made out with all that jewlery. The owner says she had never seen the suspect prior to the burglary that afternoon. But has noticed people loitering near her windows lately, staring intently at the jewlery on display. The owner adds though that shes always been cautious. Not just anyone can walk into her store. You have to be buzzed in. Catherine Gilbert baker, the man who created the rainbow flag, has died. He was 65. In 1978 he was asked by San Francisco supervisor harvey milk to create a flag that would symbolize the gay community. Gilbert was paid a thousand dollars for his design. A native of kansas, he lived in San Francisco from 1970 to 1994 before moving to new york city. The lawsuit was filed by a retired social worker who argues something is wrong considering the fact the citys asian population is 38 percent. The suit asks for a district system instead of an atlarge or block vote. None of the five asianamerican candidates who ran for City Council Seats last year were elected. And supporters of the lawsuit argue that some of them would have been elected under a district based system. The California Voting rights act prohibits atlarge systems in jurisdictions with racially polarized voting patterns. catherine after 37 years of employment a Retirement Party took place today in San Francisco. steve kron4s jeff pierce explains what made this celebration so important. What makes this celebration notable is that shirley will turn ninety in a few short months. I never thought about leaving i never ever thought about leaving. More than 400 people who live in the area were stranded when Pfeiffer Canyon bridge on highway1 was demolished earlier this month. Thanks to a team of local volunteers. At least the new trail is giving locals and visitors away to get in and out of the area. The trail is closed from a halfhour after sunset until a halfhour before sunrise. Then one rider loses control of his bike and goes flying off the cliff. The accident was captured by a fellow rider. Who rushes to the mans rescue. The motorcyclist was found injured but alert in some thick bushes. Emergency officials arrived and airlifted the rider to a nearby hospital. Amazingly. He sufffered only a fractured shoulder. A tennessee teenager and the man who kidnapped her have been spotted. Well have an update on where they were last seen. The trail for the South Carolina Church Shooter continues. How dylan roof is expected to plead. catherine in the east bay. A suspect is in custody accused of stabbing a man inside a walmart last night. It happened at the walmart on lone tree way in antioch last night just after 9pm. Police say the two men involved had been arguing. And they ran into a store restroom where the stabbing happened. Officers found the victim and the knife. And arrested the suspect. Whos facing felony assault charges. The man who was stabbed is recovering in a hospital and is expected to be okay. steve we are learning new information about missing tennessee teen and her alleged kidnapper. Investigators are releasing new surveillance images of 15yearold Elizabeth Thomas and her former teacher 50yearold tad cummins. The two were caught on camera at a walmart in Oklahoma City earlier this month. As you can see. Both have dyed their hair and altered their appearance. The first confirmed sighting of the two. Investigators say this kidnapping is still an amber alert and should be taken seriously. Authorities believe cummins is armed with two handguns. steve in South Carolina. Prosecutors say roof will enter the plea on april 10th to avoid another death sentence. 22 yearold roof was convicted of killing nine black parishoners at a Charleston Church in 20 15. Because this is the First Federal case in which a hate crime defendant has been sentenced to death. Its unclear if or when the federal government can carry out the sentence. So South Carolina prosecutor are calling this new plea agreement, quote, an insurance policy.
