Meteorologist Lawrence ScottLawrence Karnow joins us to tell us the details on when its going to hit and where it is heading right now. We got a lot of rain around the bay area. Moving in strong this afternoon with gusty winds. When it came ashore, with a punch. But you know what . Moved out pretty quickly. So we got a lot of rain out there but things settling down at least in some spots. Not getting heavy rainfall totals. The most weve seen is two inches of rain in Northern County or the mountains there. Otherwise you can see the train of moisture moving on shore. Theres the main cold front sliding on by. Weve got more rain and some of that, some moderate to heavy amounts of rainfall in along the peninsula right now. These cells moving over the mountain tops and northeasterly direction. Get ready, palo alto. San mateo, get ready. More heavy rain. Theres more of the coastline. This is going to play out throughout the bay area. Just scattered light showers in and around san jose. Dry now in milpitas, saratoga more rain. Probably in the next few minutes. Scattered showers in towards walnut creek right now. Oakland just beginning to slide just a little further. We spoke with some businesses who say the rain is bad for business while others say they are taking advantage of the wet weather. For some businesses, the rain is a sign of a drop in customers walking through their doors. Whats businesslike when it rains . Nonexistent. Pretty much. Pretty slow. Nobody gets ice cream when its cold and raining. Reporter they serve up ice cream and a variety of other treats at the ice cream shop in burlingame. They not only see a drop in sales but tips as well. Minimum wage is tips really helped. Theres no tips in the winter. Reporter the rain also affects restaurants that dont deliver. Philip santos is one of the managers at the steakhouse in san mateo. The fact that we dont have takeout is like really near the restaurant it affects a little. About 20 to 30 depending on how heavy the rain is. Reporter it mainly affects walkins and new customers. He says the loyal customers will make the trip no matter the weather. We do have faithful customers that come here every week. We love to serve them. Reporter while those that dont deliver see a drop those that do deliver like village host pizza bar and grill in girl in burlingame see a spike. People dont want to drive in the rain. Another big story tonight, a man was shot and killed by a Fremont Police officer earlier this evening. Happened at maori avenue and sutter. An area that was closed off earlier. Kron 4s Ella Sogomonian is live there tonight with the criminal investigation and what it looks like out there right now. Ella . Reporter yeah, j. R. Mary avenue still closed off as investigators are coming the scene. They tell me that that officer was responding to some sort of a disturbance out here around 4 15. And one man who lives in the area said he heard about three gunshots fired. In fremont, a deadly officer involved shooting shut down the major roadway for hours. Officials say an officer responded to a disturbance opened fire. Killing the suspect. Police would not say if any witnesses were at the scene. People will be interviewed. The scene will be processed. Appropriately. So its going to be several hours at this point. Reporter maori avenue was closed in both directions on logan drive. Little is known at this time what led up to that Fatal Shooting sunday night around 4 15. I do not know if the officer was assigned to the detail by dispatch. What i do know is the officer contacted or located one of the involved parties in this earlier incident or altercation. Reporter the officer who killed the suspect is recovering in an area hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. We are told as the bill of rights he wont be questioned for several hours until an attorney is present as this is now a criminal investigation. Investigations unit will now complete the investigation basically, from what happened at the beginning to what resulted. Reporter the question at that officer im told was in which direction he shot at. And if anybody was left outstanding in the streets that may be a threat to public safety. Police say an armed band forced his way into his estranged wifes home, suspect was killed in a struggle between him and someone inside. Reporter Sara Zendehnam has more. Reporter remains of a crime scene scattered across this quiet neighborhood. A modesto family stunned by a deadly domestic dispute. Very tragic event for everyone. Theres no winners here. Reporter the fight started saturday. Modesto police say Rick Thornton forced his way into his estranged wifes home on Alexandra Court where she and other Family Members were gathered. The 53yearold suspect was armed. Investigators say foreman fired his gun multiple times during a struggle with his wifes relatives. No one inside was hit. One Family Member managed to get control of foreman and soon after he lost consciousness. He died at the scene. Its all too much for the family. Asked for privacy and we need to get through this as a family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Reporter the family was very upset and didnt want to talk about exactly what happened inside the home. The Modesto Police department is still trying to piece together all of the details. What we do know is that no arrests have been made. Neighbors say people around the court keep to themselves but the support is there. Just kind of stick together and someone needs help with something you help them. Go about it that way. Police in Solano County are trying to figure out who fired a gun during a late night dance party. Happened early this morning on orange drive inside the sunrise event center. In vacaville. Chaos moved to the parking lot where there were hundreds of College Students fighting. Officers raced in but found no one who had actually been shot. Police say the scene was so violent they had to wear riot gear. We have ballistic helmets that we put that on our head. Also have either shotgun rifles or equipment that would be utilized and then go in. Reporter the event was put on by uc davis students. Police say whoever pulled the trigger doesnt go to that school. Some of that rain continuing to slide in that direction and that is bringing with it heavy downpours and that will make its way through half moon bay. Northeasterly direction so more of that through san mateo in the next couple minutes here. Sliding across the bay toward heyward. Be prepared. More rain coming your way if you happen to go outside. Into san jose, just a few scattered showers ahead of there. Sunnyvale raindrops too. You can see the rain really some lighter amounts. Pockets of some downpours. Clouds thickening up again and here we go. Heavy rain turning to showers overnight tonight. And then a few showers early on tomorrow morning and then we watch it pick up through the day. The rain will intensify and become heavy. Weve had the winds and right now sitting at 17 Miles Per Hour in San Francisco. The same in half moon bay. 20 in oakland. Some gusts over to 30 and 40 Miles Per Hour. Generally in the 50s outside. Rather mild but you wake up tomorrow morning some showers out there already. Toward the afternoon the rain becomes more steady and heavy at times as we head into tomorrow night. This is what were working on right now. Another storm and this whole train of moisture. This system came on almost parallel to the coastline. Next one almost perpendicular. All the rain is going to have to race through the bay area. A long time once this gets going , a long time for the storm system to stop. Possibility of some flooding. Maybe not along the major rivers but definitely along the streams and creeks around the bay area. Watch out for that. Headed to the high country, watch out. Winter storm warnings. A lot of snow.
