This is an area near Underhill Field where thousands of uc Berkeley Students live. This is it looked like late this afternoon as uc Berkeley Police looked for a man believed to be armed with a gun. Specifically a dorm building called unit one. The man was wanted in connection with an Armed Robbery. Police did not say where that Armed Robbery happened but had a section of the unit 1 dorm building roped off with yellow crime tape. There have been at least a dozen robberies in berkeley in the last six months. Most recently robberies at cafes where electronics were stolen. Students i talked with say it was concerning to hear what was going on but they were happy to be alerted. These past few months berkeley really hasnt been that safe and i think it really helps to see these notifications so that it warns people to be more alert about their surroundings. Nowadays now in my fifth year i feel like each year it becomes a little bit not safe like the previous year. Anytime when someone has possession of a firearm and theyre not trained to use it and maybe mentally unstable theres a risk to not only themselves but everybody around them but that risk just balloons with a weapon like a gun.
