Kron fours Spencer Blake explains how the city and air bnbfinally settled their differences over registration requirements. Its not just air bnb and the city who are glad to have this arrangement finally taken care of. I also spoke with an airbnb host who feels pretty good about it as well. pkg yes, this is the bedroom. Peter kwan has been an air bn b host in north beach for more than five years. He doesnt mind the extra money it brings in, but areally likes having an extra room for his mom and sister to use when they come from out of the country to visit. But the recent battle between the Online Company and the city of San Francisco over renter registrationhas bothered him. The people who are caught in the middle are hosts like me and a lot of people who want to do it legally but are confused and rather scared off by all these political controversies. But now hes happy all parties finally worked out what he calls a good deal. Though renters will still be requred to register with the city before posting a property, they will no longer have to do it in person. Its been streamline so they can do it online as apart of the posting. For lots of people i know whose english is not their first language, or who are not used to bureaucracy, it was quite difficult to understand what was needed. An air bnb spokesman spoke highly of the city for working so long and hardto really come to a solution that will simplify the process greatly for our hosts and also address the citys regulatory concerns, as well. Kwan says even though hes always been renting legally with his registration taken care of, he felt like he was painted with the same brush as the six thousand or so san franciscans who currently aarent in compliance. Hopefully in this way the listing websites will be purged of all those bad actors. And soon the website awill be removing those who dont have a city registration number. It makes it easier for people to register and get right with the law, and it better protects the citys housing supply. The settlement will start affecting anew renters first about four months from now. Exisiting renters will have a few months after that to get into compliance. In San Francisco, Spencer Blake, Spencer
