Leaders making a bombshell announcement. Police saying theyve arrested 23 people in connection to various crimes. They call it operation. Dont mess around. Today. The mayor and the Police Department announced they arrested nearly 2 dozen people buy serving arrest warrants last week for a variety of crimes, including murder, assault and robbery leaders say many of the suspects came from out of town. Antioch mayor lamar thorpe had this to say. The message is very clear. If you come to any commit a crime, you will be found. Will be arrested and you will ultimately be prosecuted. Again, i cant reiterate that message enough. And i cant reiterate the message to create the safe harbors those who commit crimes elsewhere. You will be responsible for this as well. These arrests are part of a push the city made last year and e on police and the state department of justice partner together to improve policing within the city limits. They plan to tell people about the virus, how it works, how it spreads and how to protect yourself from getting it. Theyre also going to explain the countys response to monkeypox that town hall scheduled for thursday at the Community Center from 06 00pm to 08 00pm. The Police Department is people, especially folks who are in the downtown area to use. Caution, be aware of your surroundings in a Facebook Post over the weekend. This one, the creek Police Department said that so far this summer, they have seen 3 cases of robbery in the downtown area in which people have personal items like jewelry taken in response. The Police Department is shifting resources to downtown other adding extra foot patrols extra vehicle patrols as well. Most people i talked to today on monday or are okay with that. They like the extra patrols. But some people like one woman, regina goldman, said that she likes of patrols. But there this is part of a larger problem that might need to be dealt with in a different way. Its like putting a tiny bandaid on a big sore. Right. And the big store has to do something thats happening on a larger level. Its not just the jewelry taken on the street. Theres people that are going into stores and stealing and theyre walking out scotfree. Nobodys chasing them. Nobodys calling the cops. So its emboldening these people. The cold case Murder Investigation was revived following a podcast that shed new light on her disappearance. 45 yearold paul flores has been considered a suspect in her killing. And this afternoon the gunman is still on the loose. Police say a fight led to the shootings. Family members identifying the victim as 28 yearold Antonio Vargas. And says the group involved in the incident knew each other. A suspect description has not been released, but detectives are combing through evidence and following leads to find a suspect. We believe we know who that person is. So we did get a lot of tips right off. It was kind of crowded. So we did have a lot of witnesses. The owner of granada bowl declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation. A post on their social media page reads in part, quote, the staff and management of granada bowl are deeply saddened by the senseless acts of violence that occurred at our center on saturday evening. We will do everything in our power to assist local authorities in bringing the responsible party to justice. It happened just after 11 00am on 13th avenue. This is a few blocks away from San Antonio Park field. Officers were in the area investigating reports of a shooting when they found the victim. He ended up dying at the scene. The victims name is being withheld until his friends and family can be notified. And the search continues for missing oakley woman. Alexis gabe on saturday about 100 volunteers spent hours looking for parts of alexis cell phone. Her father says her iphone 11 Screen Protector was found in some bushes near oakley. And in recent weeks, investigators did release more clues, including a handwritten note believed to lead the to the location of her body.
