We have learned that there is a standpipe for units like this where a building like this, a standpipe allows firefighters to plug in so they can run water up there and fight the fire wherever its happening. In this particular case, it was the 5th floor unit 5 to 2. But for some unknown reason and that they still need to investigate that standpipe was not working despite. Being tested back on october 7. So they had to use all the hoses and run it up to the 5th floor. We do know that this fire started when the extension cord that allows you to plug in multiple courts that caught fire that caught a blanket to go up in flames and couch and then it just quickly spread throughout that particular unit. That person actually left the unit with the door open that allowed the fire to leave the unit raced down the hallway, impacting other people if it were not for the. Quick actions over opened fire fighters. This would have turned out to be. A very, very devastating day for the city of oakland said the smoke was coming taos at the door and then they and i put a pillow over my head. Yeah, a little of your head as you are being taken out. Good thinking. Heres how it breaks down. 85 people, 2 people were injured as far as the residents. One was a firefighter. So 3 injuries and i have learned this morning that the fire chief said that everybody was evacuated, but it looks like an update now is those in other units far away from the fire. They have been told to shelter in place. So they have people inside right now told to be careful. Im sure they have their caretakers as well with them. As far as the fire, it looks like no huge flames. But its still spraying water onto its a hot spots are still a problem. Why are they bringing out the mass casualty bust . They need to bring these residents because its cold. They need to bring them to another senior facility a few miles from this location. And they said it probably will take about 2 hours for them to complete this task because they have to keep running back and for it. Thank you. Well, and the search is on for an Armed Robbery suspect in san carlos. Police say a man entered the ari i store on industrial road last night around closing time at 9, the robber took some items and walked out without paying when workers confronted the man he pulled out a gun and then fled the scene. In the north bay. Dozens of citizens from crockett held a town hall meeting last night to address a bad smell. They say theyve experienced for at least 2 months as kron. 4 Sarah Stinson learned officials believe the problem is coming from a wastewater plant. People who live in crockett have been complaining about a foul smell thats now known to come from the Wastewater Treatment plant located at the cnh sugar refinery. We now know that smell is from Hydrogen Sulfide, which smells like rotten eggs or sewage. Theres now a Health Advisory in crockett due to elevated levels of the chemical. There was a protest at the plant. We have a picture of a man with a gas mask on and a sign that read time to fix the smell for crockett. There was a town hall meeting last night so people could get muchneeded answers about what is going on at the meeting. People learned that the joint Treatment Plant will be fixing the smell by cleaning 1300 air diffusers in the treatment reactors, which helps break down sewage air monitoring data from the county Hazmat Program showed concentrations of the chemical which can cause headaches, nausea, and irritated eyes exposed to it long enough. But the Health Department said the levels detected are not considered cool immediately. Dangerous to Public Health. The county recommends anyone experiencing symptoms to stay indoors with windows and doors closed. Health Officials Say masking is not an effective type of protection, but carbon air filters for your home are recommended. The hazmat Team Provided 40 indoor air filters to the schools in the area levels of Hydrogen Sulfide depend on location of where youre at and the weather now, the Treatment Plant officials there say theyre going to have this fixed within 10 days. So if you are by the coast, if youre around the bay a little bit below average again today. So San Francisco looking out for a high of about 60 to an average is about 70 oakland will see 69 san jose. 76 livermore, 80 degrees for you. Thats just one degree above where you should be this time of year conquered. Same story about 80 in santa rosa. Looking out for 79. So weve been in this blocking pattern with the High Pressure to the north and low pressure to the south. But here comes the cavalry. The jury is considering charges against ruben flores, who is charged as an accessory to smarts murder deliberations start again with an alternate juror. And authorities have declared the death of 16 yearold kiley rodni as accidental. She was the teen who went missing in august after reportedly attending a party near truckee. About 2 weeks later, her body was found in upside down car in a lake. The Coroners Office adding there was no evidence of foul play. They released a statement saying her death was the apresult of drowning. In san jose. Police are investigating a deadly hit and run the crash happening just before 8 thursday night in the area of lundy and sajdak avenues just east of the san jose municipal golf course. The driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. And that wasnt the only time a car hit a pedestrian in san jose thursday. 2 other bicyclists were also hit on monterey road. A woman suffered minor injuries and elderly man suffered serious injuries. The driver fled the scene. Monterey road and montecito vista is back open after being shut down for hours. 5 people are dead and 3 others injured after a mass shooting in raleigh, north carolina. Police say the gunman opened fire along a walking trail and then ran off leading to an hours long manhunt officers arrested a teenage boy and because of the suspects age, investigators have not released Additional Information at this time at a news conference, raleighs mayor made this emotional plea its a tragic day because raleigh police. And a judge has ruled that the dhaka program can continue for now the same judge that declared the Program Illegal last year now says the program can continue with limitations. That means there can be no new applicants for dhaka. Those who are already in the program can continue to be in it and renew their application. But i wanted to start with Tropical Storm karl, which is down in the gulf of mexico. Weve been watching this the last few days. It is set to make landfall. As we get into this evening, so likely late night hours into the Early Morning tomorrow. But Tropical Storm karl winds sustained at 40 miles per pressure just 1003 millibars. And but you can see its just 85 miles off the coast right now. And one of the things thats happening with karl is its dragging in some drier air, which is keeping it from getting stronger because keep in mind that warm water in the certainly feeling it also has a little wind shear at the top. Its keeping it from getting stronger. So those the things you look at, this one looks like its going to stay Tropical Storm and then dissipate as it heads inland and then hits the mountains and that will kind of rip the storm apart. So that again, will be overnight tonight. It looks it will come in about 35 40 Miles Per Hour live. Look here. You can see where it is just off the shore. Right now, were mainly concerned about thanksgiving. So were trying to keep every bird is healthy as we can right now because the birds are very closely to being particularly for frozen birds. And the fresh season will start in a couple of weeks. Well start to process birds for the fresh season film at us with the California Poultry Federation says while there will be a shortage of fresh turkeys, the rule likely be in a frozen turkeys from out of state to meet demand. In the north bay, santa rosa, police are investigating what theyre calling a murder suicide of an elderly couple. Authorities tell kron fours terisa stasio. This is the 10th homicide of the year. Santa rosa police say that they came to the home on the 400 block of meadow.
