If i had not been able to have an abortion as a junior enlisted member, i would not have had my career. Now, military members may also have to pay to travel for an abortion. Something she says could also discourage men. She knows from serving. He stated without timely access to this lifesaving procedure. His wife could have died and officials said that access to abortions is especially important for Service Members who are sexually assaulted on military installations. Republican congressman Mike Gallagher said one solution. The pentagon has proposed is taking state abortion laws into account when deciding location assignments trying to manage the system like that. And for Service Members that now need to put politics and their service. Im equation gets unworkable pretty quickly. Still ahead, were speaking live with one of the members of the Womens Rowing Team here after they set a record traveling from San Francisco to hawaii. They were fast. Why one of the women says her daughter was the brave one. Bla based in danville. Wow. Earlier this week we told you about the amazing feat for women were able to accomplish. They set a record after rowing all the way from california to hawaii. They call themselves the last. 35 team, the women road more than 2400 nautical miles from San Francisco to honolulu. Finishing the trip and 34 days and 14 hours the lat 35 squad is now the female team to complete that journey. And joining us now live from the aloha state, a member of the lap. 35 team. This is adrian smith with adrian, we are so jazz to be talking with you. First off. Yeah, i read that. You only slept to 90 minutes at a time. How are you feeling . Have you caught up on your honestly, no, i definitely have not caught up on all the sleet. So who are these people who are the other 3 . How did you guys decide that you wanted to row tim white . So the 3 other teammates were collegiate rowers and one of the the girls who kick this heard her name is we color dj is like sports name. She was a ucl. A rower she got in touch Jason Caldwell who owns a business up in the bay area called let 35. And its a Leadership Development company. Hes road 3 oceans. He likely gently and had a very, you know, outstanding career. She got in contact with him. He said, hey, i want to put together womens team and i think hed be great. And so she connected with one of her teammates. Who is picture right there . Libby sleeping in my cabin with and she said she wanted to do it and then well be connected with one of her former teammates from high school who was a uc usc rower. And im brooke. And then i was the 4th one who got brought on by the strength and conditioning coach, which happened to be my husband. And he had said, hey, that he needs a 4th person, a 4th woman and i thinking love it and that planted the seed. And that was in september of last year for me. And the team was fully formed in november is when we first met for the first time i i took my first strokes out 9 in the bay is where we were training at first for the first couple of months. And then we brought her bow down to Santa Barbara and trained until we set off. And in june. If you were looking at some video and some pictures of you out on the blue pacific. But it wasnt all smooth sailing. You had some rough patches. Talk about that. Absolutely. The i just its the second night we had a essentially the courses, you know, the fastest distance between 2 points is everyone knows its a straight line. But with the way that the weather systems go, you actually head south and then west. And you dont want to go straight south. Theyre trying to go as west as possible from San Francisco and the second night we were out, we couldnt hold are heading at all any further than 180 degrees, which is street south. And so i was in i was in the cabinets and my sleeping ship that one of the girls called out and said adrian, shes like weve got a pair anchor. We cant hold are heading. And so all of a sudden we called our Land Support Team and said, hey, why dont you try rolling as hard as you can with to then try to drilling as hard as you can with free. And then if that doesnt work, then throughout the caring for her. Our team was able to keep it super strong and we never had to play to see a critical time that were out there. But the other things that happened was, as you have we have a writer thats being managed by our its and biden. Auto tiller and a couple times. The auto tiller just weve got hit by a and so it jumped and off and all the sudden youre you go from heading that direction. Youre supposed to be had in 10. The boats spinning all the way around, like 180 degrees. And it took, you know, 3 of us on board on dec to manage getting that back so that we were heading in the right direction. Meanwhile, waves are crashing against the side of the boat, which is when youre most vulnerable. But as much as that sounds likes, probably for anybodys like super scary and dangerous. I was one of them twice. I on dak when that happened once time when wasnt until that day, the the team is able to communicate so well with each other like you do this. You do this. I got this, you know, row as hard as you can on the side and you just get through those hard times. And only last a couple minutes. Its insane. I have so many questions we have like a minute left. So were not going to be able to get to all of them. But it really quickly it. Can you address like how you did, you know, got through . I want to be gross here. But like, you know, i heard people, you know, got sick. And then you have like normal body stuff. And then, you know, you got to eat and youre sleeping like 2 hours. How is that possible . Your it is absolutely incredible. The body adapts. So it took us about 4 days to go from, you know, just throwing and just sleeping. And we had food statue along the boat. So we didnt we had water already prevailed. Pretty. Im ready for us. We didnt have to make water cook food, but then after about 40 is all of us team out of our like sleep deprivation and kind of weirdness in our heads and any of the sea sickness and we have areas like that feeling when you look around you like are we doing this . Says everything actually. Okay. Its none of us. None of us are getting the crazy. See second and then at that point we were on dak, you know, yes, you have to prove in a bucket a bucket and you do that, you know, with your best friend sit sitting right in front of you looking at you, which is, you know, pretty. And not a normal all using bathrooms with closed doors. But you just kind of get used to it in few doubt. So if you before we let you go out, i just i have to ask you, how did this inspire your daughter . You know, i dont know. I think until shes older, but i think the fact that i had something that i had to do on a regular basis. That wasnt just, you know, being a mom. And it wasnt just going to work. It a passion. And i would say that one of the biggest things is how the how is she was around the other women because they we would have training weekends in Santa Barbara. And so she saw for women getting together to do something really incredible. You know, we would have dance parties in my kitchen. She got to be like almost like a little nice to all the girls. And i think she she got to see what its possible. Women rally together to do something and who knows like . Who knows whats possible. I youre saying that you thought she was the brave one for pain without her mom for so long and certainly that rings for for all of us. And were so impressed with what you did with want all you ladies didnt how your family supported you. Its remarkable. Enjoy this. This celebratory basking in in the and the accomplishment because that wasnt say so. Adrian much such thank you, guys. You. Thank you so much for joining whats the next step may be a a large cruise ship, but to San Francisco. Im hanging out in hawaii for a couple more days with some friends and then ill go back to Santa Barbara. My daughter turns 5 next saturday. And so she wants the right of were you know, just kind of back to like regular life and a little you know, maybe little Career Exploration as a i had no idea that. This. Adventure would turn into such a avenue to to, to talk about with other anybody, women, businesses, companies, and its just been incredible. Congratulations again and horseback sounds really good. They do. Have a good evening. Up next, a reporter is in the middle of his live shot he noticed this is too is loose. What happened on the air that shocked everybody.
