Two Security Guards are recovering after police say a suspect opened fire during a burglary attempt Officials Say around 12 thirty this afternoon a man attempted to steal a cart full of tools. When two guards struggled to take the suspect into custody, he pulled out a revolver and shot one of the guards in the right shoulder. And before running off, gun butted the second guard on the left side of the head. Both guards are expected to be okay. Police are investigating an earlymorning crash that claimed the life of 57year old san leandro resident lomia faumuina. Kron 4s mike pelton shows us what Police Believe led to the crash. And why one officer is being called a hero for helping save the life of one of the drivers. In what authorities describe as one of the worst accidents theyve seen. Police spent sunday morning sifting through the mangled remains of two vehicles after a car and suv collided head on. Sounded like somebody dropped a bomb or something. Reporter San Leandro Police say around 230 this morning the driver of this suv sped southbound around 100 miles an hour along washington avenue. And wound up colliding head on with a northbound car that had one man and a female passenger inside. A nearby officer pursued the speeding driver when he came upon the rash pulled the one man out. Authorities credit their officers with helping save the one driver. But the 57yearold female passenger of the other car died in the crash. Police say the two remaining drivers are at the hospital in serious condition. And as for the driver of the suv. We have an officer at the hospital. Maybe arrest if we determine hes at fault reporter sunday morning residents near the crash kept a close eye on the cleanup. And their thoughts. With the family of the 57yearold victim thats someones daughter so my thoughts go out to her San Francisco police are searching for suspects in several stabbings that took place earlier today. The first stabbing occurred at mission and cesar chavez streets around 12 45 a. M. , when two men got into an argument that turned into a fight the suspect, described only as a hispanic male around 45 years old, slashed the victim in the abdomen and fled the scene the victim was taken to San FranciscoGeneral Hospital with nonlife threatening injuries a second stabbing occurred in the Mission District around 1 40 a. M. On the 3000 block of 16th street. The victim was talking to a Security Guard outside when he was approached by the suspect, described as a male aged around 20 to 25. A Gentlemans Club is slated to open in san jose next month. And not everyone is happy about it. The gold clubs grand opening is in less than two weeks. A City Ordinance prohibits nudity in clubs. So, city councilman sam liccardo says the dancers will essentially be wearing bikinis. Still, he fears the gold club will be bad for the downtown area. As a former prosecutor, i can tell you that this is associated with bad crime. Kron4s Maureen Kelly reports that pilots with unusually high record of but aborted landings at sfo. Reporter kron4 news has learned that after the deadly crash officials looked at data showing asiana arrivals into sfo over a number of weeks and found that the airlines amount of go arounds or aborted landings was six to eight times higher than what it should be. The pilot of flight 214 called for a go around seconds before the july 6th crash. But it was too late. The boeing 777 crashed into the seawall short of the runway. Killing three people and injuring 180 more. The south Korean Airline only lands one or two half flights a day here at sfo. Making up less than a half a percent of the bustling airports 600 average daily landings. But their rate of aborted landings was significantly higher during the time frame that was scrutinized. On july 19th. Almost two weeks after the accident. The faa reported that another asiana pilot called for a go around about a half mile away from the runway here at sfo. That plane eventually landed safely 20 minutes later. I spoke to an aviation expert who says. Aborted landings dont always mean that a pilot is having troublesometimes they happen because of a conflict on the runway. Maureen kelly kron4 news. In response, the faa released this statement. In clear weather, pilots can land visually or by using instrument approaches that help guide aircraft down to the runways. One of the instrument approaches to sfo runways 28l and r is currently unavailable due to important runway safety area improvements that are under way. Until that approach is again available in late august, the faa is assigning alternate instrument approaches to all foreign carriers. The faa took this action after noticing an increase in goarounds at sfo by some foreign carriers that were flying visual approaches into the airport. An official says the death toll from spains Train Derailment is up to 79 after an injured passenger died in a hospital today. The train crash happened wednesday evening. A spokeswoman at the hospital confirmed todays fatality, but did not identify the victim. But spanish media is saying the victim was an american woman. The driver of the train arrived at a Spanish Court today. He has been charged with multiple cases of negligent homicide.
