She underwent a routine surgery to remove her tonsils. Later her mom saw something was wrong. She was spitting up lots of blood. I was asking them, is this normal after a tonsil and add did he noid removal . First they said yes but then the blood was so much it started coming out of her nose, her mouth and there was clots. It was all over her clothes and all over her face. Reporter her grandmother, who who is a surgical nurse in oakland came to help. She says the blood kept coming and about 2 1 2 hours later the unthinkable. The teenager went into cardiac arrest. I was like no way. No way, this cant be happening. And giving chest compressions. The next thing you know four blood transfusions and then platelets and everybodys running around crazy now trying to do what i didnt understand why it had to get to this point. Reporter the family says they were told on wednesday that she was brain dead. A spokesperson for Childrens Hospital says theyre incredibly sad about what happened to their young patient but couldnt give any answers as to what happened during her surgery or her care because the case is still under review. Saying, quote, at this point we dont know the specifics, so it could be that a surgery would appear routine or could be seen as routine, but there may be complicating factors that none of us know about at this point. End quote. The family is left to struggle with what to do now and they feel theyre being rushed to take her off life support, something they dont want to do. I refuse to take her off, because i believe in god and i believe he can wake her up. Reporter the hospital spokesperson says, quote, its not us telling them it has to be done. Thats a decision they have to make with their doctor. As far as i know, that decision hasnt been made, end quote. The family is hoping to meet with the hospitals chief of pediatrics and keep her on life support as long as she still has a pulse. We want to give it a chance. We do believe in miracles. A 16yearold boy has been identified as killed in a late night shooting. The medical Examiners Office says Clifton Chapman died from gunshot wounds. More on the possible motive. Reporter police are looking into the possible motive this was a robbery gong wrong. Im standing where it happened, near an apartment complex in the Silver Terrace neighborhood. The exit off i280 south is directly behind me. Homicide detectives were out here all day long looking for any clues to help put this case together. The medical Examiners Office says 16yearold Clifton Chapman was shot and killed suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He died on scene. Another man in his late teens or early 20s was also shot. He was rushed to a hospital after the shooting happened at around 11 00 saturday night. Police say hes in Critical Condition, but is expected to live. Police say its unclear if chapman and the other shooting victim were together or even know each other. No suspects have been arrested either. This neighborhood is known for Gang Activity and police have surveillance cameras monitoring the area, so its possible that the shooting was caught on video or at least what may have led up to it. But investigators say they need witnesses to cooperate in order so solve this case. If you saw anything, call police immediately. In San Francisco, kron 4 news. A fire ripped through an Apartment Building. Fire trucks rushed to San Franciscos north beach neighborhood to get the fire under control. The fire is still under investigation. Reporter its a week before christmas, and now more than two dozen people have been forced to leave their homes and are now scambling to find somewhere to stay. Its going to be a significant hardship people. Its the holidays. Reporter Officials Say the fire started in a third floor apartment. A onealarm fire was knocked down within 40 minutes but caused major damage during those vital moments. It did get into the attic space so that allowed it to travel further into the building. You cant even walk in, because of smoke. The smoke was really bad. Reporter fire Officials Say blaze and water damage left at least 12 units uninhabitable. Overall, 31 people throughout the building were affected. The red cross was there to assist anyone in need but say most people had someplace to go. Neighbors salvaged whatever they could and packed their trunks. Coit liquors is under the apartment where the blaze started. Theres extensive loss throughout the store. The owner has to now wait for an electrician and his insurance to show up before starting the cleanup, which he suspects will take some time. All that before he can think of reopening. Three family members were home at the time. Two suffered minor burns and the third person was in a house and a child not harmed. The house does have significant fire and smoke damage and is not livable tonight. Tomorrow the u. S. Chemical safety board will present a draft report of findings stemming from last years fire at the chevron refinery in richmond.
