Kelly talked with this poor woman in her Highland Hospital bed. She was still bloody from this mornings attack. She needed six stitches in her head. This is the raincoat she was wearing today. This 73 year old works as a stockbroker in San Francisco. She boarded bart at the fremont station. And says she was reading a magazine. When she says she saw an agitated man walk by her. And then she was suddenly and randomly attacked. She didnt remember what happened. Sayi ng she blacked out. But bart police say the victim was kicked by the suspect. Which slammed her into the side of the train. Some bart riders say they are surprised by this incident. Others say more security is needed. What did people tell you . steve a lot of the people i talked to say they do feel generally safe riding the bart. Although they try to keep their traveling during daylight hours. They also did say though. That they regularly notice people getting on the train that are distubred in some way. And at times, that can make them a bit uneasy. Hundreds of thousands of bay area residents take bart every day. And the vast majority do so without any problems of note. But recent high profile incidents are putting the question of rider safety back in the forefront. Bart tells us property crimes are significantly down at stations. Ive been on one where someone pushed the button and the train conductor got on and then we stopped until the police got on and removed the person that was making the trouble. We also talked to people who say they rarely see bart police on trains. Which is where the todays attack in fremont happened. In a statement, a bart spokesman says. Police have recently arrested a series of robbery suspects which they call a big win because a large portion of crimes are commited by a small number of people. Police are in San Franciscos west portal neighborhood investigating an attempted kidnapping. The incident happened at around 5 oclock near the intersection of taraval street and forest side avenue. Police say a young girl was walking. Thats when a white man in his 20s jumped out of his car and grabbed her. Police say he tried pulling her into his car. The girl started screaming. Several witnesses heard and came to her aid. The suspect then took off southbound on forest side. We have a reporter on the scene. We just heard a bang and then we saw three people in the roada horrifying scene as a hyundai s u v mounted the curb and began plowing into the crowd on westminster bridge.
