Oakland leaders spent saturday but their Community Just hours after police began investigating another homicide. The 100nd homicide of the year happened in east oakland near 45th and bancroft avenues. 2 people were shot. One is in stable condition. The other debt City Council Members and other Community Leaders held a vigil at city hall for all of those impacted. Im a woman. A mom. I have been. Im a victim of violence myself. I know its scary and i want our residents to know that the city council is absolutely committed to Eu Council PresidentNikki Fortunato bass also visited Bella Vista Park saturday there. She spoke with people who are concerned about their own safety. People are fed up. And i have to say that it was also very good to talk with people about how committed they are to the city. We focus police what they are best able to do, which is solving these crimes that are committed by a small number of people. And then the city council has invested in alternative Crisis Response and violence prevention. Meanwhile, Council Member dan called spent time in bush tried park. He wasnt a similar stories of fear and frustration. Are at constant nations fear, its not just in one or 2 or 3 neighborhoods that in most, if not all neighborhoods in in our in our city called says in addition to getting guns off the street, people spoke to him about addressing the root of crime. If we can take guns out of the hands of people who should never have those then we could bring homicide snow. We could bring shootings them and that will be good for everybody. Council member call, its the city could use outside help, but he feels oakland leaders need to be instrumental in creating we have to solve crimes. We have to respond 911, calls and we have to really invest heavily in prevention and Intervention Services and strategies. But as kron fours Philippe Djegal reports, the university confirms none of the victims are students a late night out for a slice and berkeley disrupted by a flurry of gunfire. Its pretty wild. Crime scene tape encompassing telegraph and durant avenues near the south side of uc berkeley. I take this to like every day to class, like, you know, like the often so for it to happen right here, i honestly like i love, you know clea police say a fight broke out just after one 30 saturday morning, which led to shots fired and 4 people wounded, all believed to be young men. Uc berkeley says none are students, but one of them eventually died at a hospital. We something that i thought was fireworks, but it was and it was gunshots. Groups of people tended to the injured victims. His body was like its like a crawling position. Its a berkeley and theres lots of students here. And i mean, it shouldnt happen anywhere. People and usually college kids are walking very, you know, freely everyones free. But these incidents are, you know, making us a bit nervous. And lately, there have been several incidents. It was just thursday morning when catalytic converter thieves opened fire on a berkeley homeowner who fortunately was not injured. Police also recently announced the arrest of a 36 yearold berkeley woman wanted in connection with a series of attempted kidnappings. The suspects in saturdays deadly shooting are still at large. The University Says support services are available to impacted students. 24 hours a day, Philippe Djegal all kron. 4 news. Now berkeleys mayor did take to twitter tonight about the shooting saying in part, quote, this senseless act of gun violence has shaken our city and shows even in an overwhelmingly Safe Community like berkeley, the epidemic of gun violence presents a danger to us all. He went on to say the time for thoughts and prayers has passed the time for action is now. And petaluma 3 people arrested in connection with string of burglaries at Sporting GoodStores Across the north bay. Most recently Police Responded to a burglary at a dicks Sporting Goods where 2 men and a woman are accused of taking about 1500 worth of football jerseys. Police arresting the suspects during a traffic stop this morning. They recovered more than 10,000 of stolen merchandise from those dicks Sporting Goods stores. One in petaluma one in santa rosa and one in roseville. The suspects were arrested for conspiracy and possession of burglary tools and grand theft. Petaluma police are also investigating tonight after a vehicle crashes into a business last night. This is the aftermath of that crash. Police say a woman was attempting to put her vehicle in reverse when she backed it all the way up into the adobe beverage and deli. Police say she was arrested after showing signs of alcohol impairment. The from the store, as you can see here, suffered significant damage. Fleet week continued today in San Francisco. This is a look above our station this afternoon as the blue angels soared across the sky. You can see there was a little bit of fog there in the background. But for us here along the embarcadero, it didnt take away from the show. That, however, was not the case over in the Marina District today. Kron fours gayle ong reports from marina green where karl, the fog made a special appearance. It is not unusual for the fog to make an appearance here at the air show. But spectators made the most of the situation and the blue angels are able to work around it safely. The annual fleet week air show brought thousands of people to marina green park saturday. But this year, the event caps spectators guessing. I think theyre funny because its like we cant really anything right now. But last year we got to see the amount of the flips in and everything the show was put on a brief weather hold as a marine layer blanketed the San Francisco bay. This man giving a nickname for the blue angels fog usually garrett daily at. If were up there now, it might get a little bit of blue. Now theyve been here. Years is feels a lot like San Francisco. Shouldnt be this disappointed by the fog rolled in throughout the afternoon. But people were in good spirits. Ive been coming here with my dad and my family for a really long time. Take a look at your screen. 14 yearold Ingrid Fernandez was last seen yesterday morning around 10 00am on the 9300 block of olive street in oakland. She was wearing a red and black shirt and blue jeans in grades, 5 foot, 2 inches tall with black and red hair and brown eyes. If youve seen her, youre asked to contact Oakland Police. Well, today marks 5 years since the deadly tubbs fire at the time it was the most destructive wildfire in californias history. More than 20 people were killed and more than 6,000 homes were destroyed. Kron fours camila barco reports from the north bay where many are still remembering that frightening day. On saturday morning, dozens of people showed up to coffey park in santa rosa on the 5 Year Anniversary of the 2017 wildfires. Its a neighborhood burned by the tubbs fire and a place john and sylvia lz and debbie have called home for more than 20 years on october, 8th, 2017, they evacuated their homes after smelling smoke and finding other houses in flames. We didnt grab much. Just got dressed. We could hardly breathe. I mean, it was really thick not too long after they came back to check out the damage. But they found this homes burned to the ground and everything they owned gone christmas. Ornaments, made when they were 5 out of paper. You cant replace those. And i just sat here and cried because its 30 years our life. The tubbs fire burned more than 36,000 acres destroyed almost 6,000 structures. And 22 people died fast forward 5 years later. If you walk around coffey park neighborhood, youll find about a dozen or so empty. Lots like this one. Well, thats because some people like the elsies have rebuilt their homes. But for others, the rebuilding process is still ongoing. Santa rosa mayor chris rogers says more than 90 of the 3,000 homes lost in the city have been rebuilt, are in construction or have been approved to break ground. Its fantastic to see how far as a community we come around the same time. 2 other fire sparked in the north bay. The nuns and atlas fires. Each one of those birds more than 50,000 acres destroyed dozens of structures and killed several people. Since then, there have been many improvements by Santa Rosa Fire Department like sending out emergency alerts and warning notifications have additional firefighters on hand during critical fire weather. We have everything from access to. Artificial intelligence with cameras that are monitoring fires. Now additional weather stations. The elsies and bradford say the process to bounce back has been a challenge, but theyve been able to move on with the support from others im glad that we were live here. Search and rescue crews remained on the scene today for people who may be trapped in the rubble. Heavy machinery help with the process by removing large pieces of concrete and debris police say they are still investigating the cause of this explosion at the apple green gas station increase low. The sorokin was convicted in 2019 of conning 275,000 from banks, hotels and wealthy you new yorkers to finance or lifestyle. She served 3 years in prison for larceny and theft and she is now fighting deportation to germany after immigration.
