Of course, it comes just almost exactly one week after that 6. 0 earthquake hit the napa area leaving many homes and businesses damaged. Over the next several hours we will see a lot of people head out to church and those who are going to church are going to have a hard time avoiding the very visable signs of everything theyve gone through this week as a lot of caution tape and financing remains seemingly everywhere you go across napa valley this comes almost one week exactly after that 6. 0 earthquake struck napa valley. It initially knocked out power to 70,000 people when it struck at 3 20. In the week since the quake all power has been restored. Crews fixed the waterline leaks and inspectors are getting a better look at the buildings. More than 150 buildings in napa are red tagged and unhabitable. One of those is the first United Methodist church. The sanctuary is red tagged as part of the front of the building is separated from the structure itself and fenced off below in case of a possible collapse. But the community is coming together and that congregation will worship at the Napa Community seventh day advenist church. They will hold their normal service at 9 30 this morning as today for many across napa valley its a day of prayer and reflection and we are going to head over there shortly, marty, and see how everyone is coping with what has surely been a stressful week. That is mike pelten reporting from napa. And last weeks quake left a lot of businesses struggling to open back up for customers, including vil os pizzaria. The pizza shop has been retrofitted and sustained no quake damage but the building behind it wasnt, causing vilo to be red tagged and then yellow tagged. Construction crews are building a protective shield on the roof in case that unstable building behind them falls. The construction means delays and another lost day of business. To be closed for any business day, particularly a new business, is difficult to say the least. We need money coming in. We need to be able to pay our staff and our bills, all those things. Inspectors are waiting for the roof to be done so they can give them the okay to reopen. Two napa wineries joining together. They call to the aftershock party. It brought together residents looking for a break from recovery efforts. It had wine, food, or music, too. The wineries hope those who couldnt make it could still take a moment to reflect. A lot of people really devastated and we were very fortunate that we did not have a lot of damage. Thats why we wanted to come together and throw this little bit of a relief for people. We really are about friends and family. I grew up in this area. So we had a lot of contacts and a lot of friends and family that we just wanted to help. And the event raised money for the napa food bank. Hockeys ultimate prize, the stanley cup, was in napa on saturday to help raise money for the quake victims. L. A. Kings general manager and former San Jose Sharks gm Dean Lombardi brought the cup to the napa weston. Fans taking advantage of the opportunity to snap a photo or two with the cup and to make a donation to help quake victims. The money raised goes to the napa valley Disaster Relief fund. The l. A. He fell 250 to 350 feet down a cliff near palisades drive and west bridge avenue. Two or people also fell and are suffering from serious injuries. A pedestrian is in Critical Condition after he was hit by an Oakland Police patrol car saturday afternoon. Police say it happened just after 1 30 at 3rd avenue and east 12th street in oakland. They say the officer was turning slowly and hit the 58yearold man in the intersection. Police say they dont know if that victim was in the crosswalk when he was hit. How the little girl became trapped. Reporter it was a desperate rescue. In video, emergency crews tried to revive the 9yearold little girl after she was pulled from a huge hole dug into the sand on the beach in lincoln city. She was visiting with her family. She sat down in the hole to see how deep it really was. Then the sand caved in on her. And we heard screaming coming from the beach. First we thought it was kids, but it was screaming and screaming and screaming. Reporter the family was there when the large hole around her collapsed in. Tracy called 911 and watched people desperately trying to dig the little girl out. Well, the people were digging and digging and digging and digging. And it looked like the sand kept collapsing rich the girl was unconscious and not breathing when rescuers took her to the hospital. They could not revive her. This has happened before on the coast. It is a pretty rare event. Got to be tough for you guys . Actually, when its like this, when its a young child thats a drowning or any kind of accident like this that turns out to be a fatality, its very hard on the responders and the community. Reporter mourners laid candles at the hole that has been filled in. And the family that planned the Holiday Weekend together is now in mourning. It was heart wrenching. The parents of 18yearold Michael Brown joined protesters in ferguson, missouri to continue their call for justice for their son. Demonstrators joined the National March on ferguson on the city streets after days of relative quiet. Huge crowds gathered as each of browns parents led a march to the spot where their son was killed. Demonstrators someday this is a sign that they are not going away. We are going to stay in their face. They are going to be heard. As long as we we do that and do it in a positive way, we will go far. Michael brown was shot and killed during a confrontation with a Police Officer, Darren Wilson, three weeks ago. A grand jury is considering evidence and federal investigators are sorting out whether browns civil rights were violated. Friends and family members gathering to say goodbye to a man shot and killed by Los Angeles Police earlier this month. And a 3. 2 magnitude earthquake was reported at 1 56 this morning about five miles southsouthwest of napa. There have been no reports of damage or injuries.
