Suspects and the stolen struck. Were keeping a close eye on the story and will bring you updates. A 1yearold boy killed after being hit by a car in a phoenix mobile home park. Police telling us it appears the vehicle was backing out of the driveway when it was hit. It is so tragic, matt. Reporter it is heartbreaking, john and kari. It started in the 2100 block of tried to take the little boy to the hospital on their own. They got as far as here, this gas station at Seventh Avenue and broadway. Police are still here investigating and making sure and taking pictures and gathering evidence. The parents are grieving tonight and their neighborhood is in shock. Little kids are crying because they saw what happened. Very, very, very tragic. Reporter a heartbreaking broadway road after a 1yearold boy was killed. Police say he was struck by a neighbor who was backing out of his driveway. Me and my sister heard screaming and she thought they were playing and i was like that screaming is not something to be playing around. Reporter parents tried to rush the boy to the hospital on their own forcing authorities to stop the familys vehicle near seventh and broadway. It may have cost them precious minutes in t trying to save his life. Probably related to a lot of panic going on. Seeing your child in a critical state and they didnt know what to do at that point. Reporter two families joined together in one tragic moment. The drivers Business Partner says he is devastated. It was an accident and to have that in your head that you ran over a little boy and now we found out it was fatal, the boy passed away is even harder on him. The image is stuck in my head that is really stuck in my head. Im just shaking. Reporter now, police say the driver has been cooperating and they dont believe impairment was a factor. The parents were home at the time but there is a lack of clarity as to whether they were inside the home or outside of the home. They say adults were in the vicinity. Snow and ice causing schools in flagstaff to close for the day. City workers went in late because of the weather. More cold weather is moving in across the state tonight. It is feeling wintry out there. Freeze warnings are in affect for parts of the state and it is getting cold in the valley as well. Dave munsey is joining with get. Another one until 9 00 a. M. Wednesday morning that is your freeze warning down here. That is different that is a hard freeze warning meaning were going to get four hours of freezing in some of the areas below 32 degrees. The freeze is on in also, we thought we would get a look at how much we had on the threeday snow. Snowbowl, 10 inches new. 8. 5 inches new at forest lakes and a little bit at bellemont, 6 inches there. Flagstaff, 5. 5 inches there. Williams, almost 5 inches, 4. 07. More weather in a little bit. It is being called the worst wildfire to tear through years. A huge fire burning near gatlinburg has claimed the lives of three people and forced 14,000 residents to flee their homes. Several hundred buildings have been destroyed by the fire and dollywood is in the path. Strong winds helped to fuel the flames and that is make it tough for crews to get a handle on this fire. Red cross continues to help displaced residents. Its a new memorial state park dedicated to the 19 Granite Mountain hotshots killed in the wildfire back in 2013. The new park opens tomorrow. The trail to the memorial site is a sevenmile round trip hike. The spot where the hotshots died is three miles in on the hike. The only Granite Mountain hotshot who survived the fire it is a place for me where i have different, unique memories and what they have done here is truly beautiful. 19 stone plaques line the trail along with a timeline of what happened that terrible day. Memorial state park opens tomorrow. Park Officials Say the hike takes about four hours to complete so you definitely want to be prepared if youre going to be there. Cars of the future are coming to arizona. In fact, they will be called lucid motors. The facility will create 2,000 new jobs. Steve krafft explains what this means for our economy. The trial has been postponed until next april. The sheriffs attorney told the judge he needs more time to prepare. The contempt of court trial stems from the sheriff ignoring a judges order. The sheriff said he did not do it intentionally. If convicted, the outgoing sh in jail. Not everyone is excited about the new minute minimum wage increase in the valley. It has been a staple of the new Years Eve Party scene for years but no more. The mill Avenue Block Party is gone as you know it. There is a new law on the books in arizona and this will wine lovers will especially like. They tell us after sponsorships have dried up and numbers not being what they used to be, changes had to be made. Everything you see when an event is set up has been paid for. All of that is just kind of part of the routine but when attendance continues to decrease, it is difficult to make the numbers work. New Years Eve Block Party at mill avenue was the place to be to ring in the new year. The event was sponsored and organized by the fiesta bowl bringing in 100,000 people. Once it moved to glendale, sponsorship was pulled and tempe took over. Kate border says in 2014, 17,000 people showed up and last year, about 27,000. I think this happens with all things change and that is where we are now. So we have to look at what is best for the city. Reporter because of the low attentance numbers, the event will be scaled back. Mill avenue will still be closed off but no headlining band or cover charge. Bar managers say scaling the event back is not a huge deal. We could have less people in the area because the block party is not going to be here was the outside bands and such. Cover charge, people may be more lined to come in. Reporter while others are not happy with the decision. They are not investing in the event to make it more than just a day to open the doors. I think new years will be slower than normal and that hurts downtown tempe as a whole, not just my business.
