But even today, today is even bigger. Take a look down here on Market Street right outside the embarcadero here. These folks here look like theyre getting a bud light, one of the big sponsors here for super bowl city. There are i would say tens of thousands of people here easily right now. This of course is going to be a big night because one republic is going to be performing on the stage over there around the corner. So all kinds of a guy here taking a selfie. Thank you very much. The ontv selfie, thats always fun. I tell you what, earlier today we did talk to the Super Bowl Host Committee from houston which has next years game. We caught up with them here in super bowl city. They are here studying and taking notes because there is so much to see here. The committee brought 75 people to look at every aspect of the more than weeklong event. They started planning in 2012 which means by the time theirs arrives they will have been working on it almost fouranda half years. The committee came here to find out everything thats being done well here. Theyre looking at logistics, transportation, security, and to make sure theyre putting smiles on peoples faces and not frowns. He had plenty of praise for San Francisco. I think theyve done a great job with the volunteers. When you walk on the street corner, if you look like you have a question theyre on you trying to help you. I think thats number one. Number two, just the energy of the street with super bowl city and with whats going on in moscone, its just awesome. I think that whole energy level that San Francisco is bringing is just amazing. Reporter earlier this week i interviewed members of the minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee which has the game in 2018, so two years down the road, and just like the folks from houston they had a great deal of praise for San Francisco. Guys, back to you. If you want to look ahead to see what the next two years will bring, minnesota was here as well. What are people enjoying the most . The weather, walking around, eating and drinking, some of the games . Reporter im sure there are a lot of people out here enjoying the drink, thats pretty obvious. But last week we were worried that there was going to be a lot of rain but the weather has been perfect. If you look up to the right, theres not a cloud in the sky. Thats how its supposed to be all weekend. Its supposed to warm up to 70, 71 degrees for game time in santa clara, so its really going to be a perfect weekend. Rain keeps some people away but this is going to be a bigtime event all weekend long. Perfect. Perfect bay area weather. John sasaki live in the middle of super bowl city. Thanks john. One of the best things about growing up here in the bay area and being a 49ers fan is all the super bowl championships that Organization Won over a 12year period. One of the individuals responsible for that is eddy dee himself. Our sports director mark ibanez had a conversation with him. Lets go live to mark ibanez at the nfl experience. Mark. Reporter hey, mike, ill tell you what, gasia was saying it earlier, i am kind of like a kid in the candy store bick got to see my boyhood hero, joe broadway namath. He was hear. Jamie foxx was here, cuba gooding jr. Playing o. J. In the television series. This is a huge weekend for the San Francisco 49ers. Obviously they are hosting the super bowl at levis stadium, but the nerveracking event which will take place tomorrow, the voting for the hall of fame, and in the contributors category, ed dee debardelo. Looks like this could be his year. Eddy d, we did an informal poll, and everybody in the know says its going to be a very, very close vote. Eddy d who was the proprietor of five super bowl victories for the 49ers, i had a chance to speak to him a little bit earlier. Man, as you can imagine, hes very nervous about the prospect of finally getting into the hall of fame. You know, theres nothing i can do. You know, i guess everything speaks for itself over those many years with bill and with all these great players, and everybody that played for me was great player. But, you know, you have 46 gentlemen, and they have a job to do, and i cant do anything more or anything less than ive done. It lies in their hands. If they feel i belong, then ill get elected. And if they dont, i wont. I think this one is pretty special for a lot of reasons. First of all, its back here in the bay area, and, you know, Nothing Better than to have him learn that he just made it in the hall of fame back here in San Francisco. So this one has a lot of meaning. The great joe montana. It seems like all the stars are aligning for eddy. It would be perfect. Tomorrow right around 4 00, just about 24 hours from now, we will know officially if he is indeed a hall of famer. We talked to a lot of ex players who played under him with the 49ers. They just absolutely love the guy. They gush about him. And one of the key things they said about him and what separated him from other nfl owners, he made everybody feel like real family. And they feel like thats a little bit of a separation, aside from the fact, too, they won five super bowls under his ownership. So it is going to be a nerve racking 24 hours. He will be on pins and needles. Theyve told him he has to be in his hotel room tomorrow afternoon at 2 00 with the voting coming in around 4 00. So here on radio row, thats the main thing were focusing in on. I can tell you the bay area is very well represented. A ton of 49ers fans are here, and raiders fans, too. Bigtime. But thats from the radio row, Moscone Center in San Francisco, unless you guys have any questions. Well, yeah, mark. Of course. You have been covering so many super bowls. Youve been out there all week. Its friday. What has stuck with you the most so far . What have you enjoyed throughout this week . Were still on, randy, turn the light back on. Our cameraman is getting off, going to go on his dinner break so he turned the light off. But, anyway, you know what struck me is just the spirit of the bay area and how they kind of come together. I mean, obviously, the whole city has just shined brightly. Were used to super bowls in that weve participated in them. The city looks great. Everybody is in a great mood. I dont know if you can see behind me it at all, but this place is pretty packed. And the thing i love the most, 49ers fans and raiders fans all getting together. You didnt see any hint of obnoxious behavior. Its just a really cool event. Were showing off right down to even the weather come sunday is going to be super cool, spectacular. So its been a great weekend, and showing the bright side of nfl football, i think. And thats not just a hometown story. Its really been evident. I agree with you, mark, the spirit is alive and well here in the bay area this week. Stay with us one second, mark, because i want to show our viewers something. I actually did something today ive never done in television on the noonhour. So where mark was, at the nfl experience, we were sending it out to him so we could do a little q and a with him and hang out. Well, mark just wasnt ready. So when we took the shot, and we do those cue boxes and the split screen, he wasnt paying attention, and we decided to have fun. Here you go. From jason, radio row, our sports director mark ibanez. Mark, always a pleasure to see you. Lets knock the picture out. Mark is chatting. Is he talking . Are you in hawaii, too . Its kind of fun. We could hang with this a little bit. He may say a couple of things to you and i, gasia. Its been fun hearing him and his stories about all the super bowl coverage, his hot shorts in miami. Mark is so connected. I remember the first time i ever met joe montana. Oh, hes ready now. Hey, mark, weve been on for 60 seconds. I had to get out of my trailer and get it done. All right, mark, there you have it. Take us back to that moment. You obviously wanted to take the photo with the woman, which i think is fantastic. Put us on hold and take care of business out there. Mark ibanez. Reporter youve got to take care of viewers, mike. I agree. Reporter i dont know how good the color is on your set, but i can assure you my face is bright 49ers red. I dont think ive ever done that before but i think it illustrates how chaotic it is. For us who do the sports, to tell you the truth, it is rewarding to see that the viewers are so connected to channel 2 and the sports teams, man. They come out, and they want to show you the love that they have for the franchises that they follow. Its just pretty cool. Its really what makes you still want to follow it after all these years. But im going to get you back for that mike. Okay, ill be waiting, buddy. Have a great weekend. Thanks for tuning in with us. So super bowl is almost here, mike. It is friday. We just have a couple more days. You are going to the big game. I just found that out today. I told you like two days ago. I missed it. My College Roommate was on this morning in the 9 00 hour. His family is out here joining us. Were all going to go together. Youre going. Ill be watching it. But i got to wondering, what about the people, they dont like football, they dont like super bowl weekend, they dont like the commercials what. Are you going to do . What are your plans on sunday . Go to my facebook page. I have a post up right now. Tell me what are your plans . I just wonder. Thats your post . Yes. I hope both teams lose. The four on 2 will be right back. Onion strings, blue cheese and a1 sauce on a burger. At carls jr. I work here at my namfive star auto care. In rocklin california. A lot of thought was put into the change to solar and we couldnt have done it without pg e. Pg e is very committed to clean energy. Working with five star auto care we looked at how we could make their business more Energy Efficient and save them money in the long run. With solar we have saved about 85 on our energy cost. With this extreme drought were using the savings from our solar system to save every last drop of water. If you are looking for ways to save energy, your first step is to call pg e. Together, were building a better california. Welcome back to the four on 2, everyone. A good crowd gathering here along Market Street in super bowl city. Out here were talking all things super bowl but we want to send it back to oakland, our ktvu studios with julie haener and Frank Somerville checking the headlines. A man died today while in police custody. Officers say the death happened after the man fought with officers while he was being arrested. It started about 3 00 this morning in antioch. Officers started a wanted parolee sleeping in a vehicle. Police say the 37yearold man fought violently with officers during his arrest and then started to have some sort of, quote, medical disstress as an ambulance arrived. Police say life saving measures were taken but that he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Ktvus henry lee is following the store in antioch. He will have more for us ahead on ktvu channel 2 news at 5 00. It was a war of words between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders during last nights democratic debate in new hampshire, the first debate of this primary with only two candidates. While there were two podiums, it was one heated debate. So i think its time to end the very artful smear that you and your campaign have been carrying out in recent weeks, and lets talk about the issues. Lets talk about the issues that divide us. I am very proud to be the only candidate up here who does not have a super pac, who is not raising huge sums of money from wall street. She has the entire establishment, or almost the entire establishment behind them. Thats a fact. The debate ranged from gun control to electability. Clinton faced questions about the investigation into her e mails while she served as secretary of state. At the same time she took aim at sanders. Brian, as we just saw there, last night was the most pointed, fiery debate between the two. Who do you think was most effective at getting points across . I think Hillary Clinton did a better job last evening, but Bernie Sanders, he counter punched nicely. He had some points that were very important speaking to his base and to try to get people who were Hillary Clinton supporters to come over to his side. So i thought it was very vigorous debate. I thought he had a little less energy than Hillary Clinton, but i thought overall it was a good show. Brian, if youre Bernie Sanders, do you spend all of your time over the next few days and go for that blockbuster wynn new hampshire, or do you pull out some resources and start looking ahead to South Carolina or nevada . Thats a really good question. Hes got a twotoone lead in new hampshire. I would think tactically theyre probably going to siphon off some people and start moving them into South Carolina where clinton has the same advantage over sanders in the polling there. So its going to be interesting to watch. Hillary clinton really attacked Bernie Sanders last night but Bernie Sanders is very polite. Do you think that he needs to stop being so polite and maybe going on the offensive, go on the attack a little bit more . Yes, frank, i think debt. Last night i think i counted seven or eight times where he started his rebuttal by saying, i agree totally with the secretary on a certain issue. Thats really not where he should start, my opinion, but i think he needs to say, maybe she has a good point, but heres my point. Heres how i would do something. So yes, i think hes got to step it up in terms of going after her. But thats the endearing part of him, that he isnt that kind of guy. Brian, what about the trustability factor . A lot of people say they have a hard time trusting Hillary Clinton. Is that going to be her biggest challenge moving forward . She is going to have to continue to work on her credibility with the American Public. She dismisses them like theyre not a problem, like benghazi and the email situation, all of that sort of thing. Thats fine, but it still lingers in the minds of the American Public that theres more there than she is admitting. And shes going to have to deal with that trust issue right along. You saw where she dismissed the issue of what her transcript said in speeches to various Interest Groups and how much money she was making, that sort of thing. The American Public wants to know. Brian, do you think that more and more people are starting to believe that maybe Bernie Sanders could potentially do what was considered unthinkable a couple of months ago, and that is win the nomination . Ill tell you this, there is a poll out now that is reported in one of the washington, d. C. Inside papers saying that she has lost a lot of her lead now nationally. Nationally, to Bernie Sanders. And a couple of other polls are also showing this trend. So sanders is making inroads, and thats going to be very interesting to see whether he can keep that up. The mitigating factor is that clinton has been working on this for a really long time and has a great ground game, and in these states that are coming up. So were going to know pretty quickly in march whether he has a chance or not. It is all fascinating to watch as this process unfolds. Thank you for your perspective. Now back to our studio on Market Street there at super bowl city as mike and keba are there. Mike, youre going to the game. Where are you sitting . Kind of a surprise. Going with my best friend from college and his family who are out here. They havent told you yet . I havent seen the ticket, which is fine with me. I could be the last row on the top, down low, and i think thats fantastic. Thats the way i want it. I want to be able to walk into levis and say, duke, im going to follow you. Have you ever gone to a super bowl before . I have, at the rose bowl back in 1993. Cowboysbills. The cowboys beat the 49ers that year. In that instance, my sister, her fatherinlaw had a group of tickets so we went to the game anyway even though the 49ers werent in there. I saw Michael Jackson at halftime. I believe the cowboys rolled right over those buffalo bills. Youre pretty connected. I know. I wouldnt say connected. Just right place at the right time. A lot of good friends. Great time this sunday. Great friends, yeah. Thanks, mike, keba. All about good friends and good family. Thank you, guys. Were all jealous, thats the deal. And hes going, hes not even working it. Hes actually going like a fan, like a real person. Im working it a little bit for the morning show. Brief little twominute hit. Much more to come as we give you a live look down at Moscone Center. It has been a huge success. It everyone i talked to said the nfl experience is a hot ticket. Heres a 35 ticket, 25 for children. The four on 2 live from super bowl city on this good looking friday afternoon. Well be right back. Welcome back, everyone. A live look inside the nfl experience. Apparently there is a line gathering here so these fans want to meet Seattle Seahawk db Richard Sherman. You can see some seahawks jerseys right there. If you dont remember, keba, back on that thanksgiving day game, Richard Sherman ate the turkey on the niners logo at the 50yard line. It didnt go over too well with 49ers fans. All of a sudden hes back in San Francisco. I dont see a lot of niners jerseys in that line, which makes sense. So Richard Sherman in town greeting fans. He is a very good player. Weve been talking about the weather, worried a couple of weeks ago, will it rain, wont it. Its going to be beautiful. Lets check in
