KTVU KTVU Fox 2 News At 6pm March 15, 2017

Thank you. Chief meteorologist bill martin has been tracking the storm. Is the worse behind us . Yes. But one of the problems you will have now is a lot of cold air moving into the area. You wont get kind of a snow event and melt the next day. New york city, i think the snow will stick around. I will show you what i mean. Thats bad news. You know how it is after a snowfall and you got ice on the ground actually in some ways make it worse. There is the system as it migrates off. Blizzard and winterstorm warnings upstate into this area and the blizzard warnings dropped in the next hour. Theres the system. Thats where it is going to be at one a. M. Our time and you can see it going off and out of here but if you look at the triations you probably saw that right there. The cloud shields, that is representing that strong wind which is ushering in this cold air. So one of the problems, you got four or five inches of snow in new york and it is going to be tomorrow morning. It will be 23 degrees in washington d. C. 23 in new york. You will have a heck of a time. Not just tomorrow but the next couple of days. Daytime highs around freezing. This stuff will stick around. If you have air flight or travel plans, to the east coast i suggest you Pay Attention because they will have problems getting the ice and the runways the way they want them and they probably have flight delays. We saw 80s today. Speaking of those flight delays the storm back east is grounding flights in and out of the bay area. A spokesperson at sfo says out of the 140 flights to and from the affected area. One hundred of them have been canceled. Nationwide about 9 thousand flights were canceled today due to the weather. Airport officials are hopeful that schedules will start getting back to normal either by later on tonight or tomorrow morning. With spring break around the corner tourism experts are advising students to be weary if they are heading to mexico. The state department continues to warn that u. S. Citizens are the victims of Violent Crimes in mexico including baha and the home of acalpuco. Resort hotels and major destinations dont generally see the crime reported in other areas along major Drug Trafficking outside. Police chiefs put the federal government on notice saying they do not intend to help undocumented immigrants in the south bay. The Santa Clara Police chiefs and the clergy called in the media to make one issue clear. Santa clara Law Enforcement agencies have no desire to become the enforcers of federal Immigration Law. We all felt that it would be important and powerful if we all spoke in one voice. Regarding the issue. The chiefs say they are seeing outright deportation fears in many latino communities as well as other immigrant communities. We understand there is fear in certain segments of our community and we are here to assure you that we will continue to serve and protect in a way that seeks to calm fear and build trust. Public safety is the primary concern of local Law Enforcement. Not immigration. What you are hearing today in one collective voice is a steadfast commitment to keeping trust with the people that we serve. And we will stand together. Regardless of our denomination differences and our theological differences. We stand hand in hand together. Neither the chiefs or the District Attorney see anything to require them to enforce Immigration Law. In materials of the federal government and civil detainers and enforcing Immigration Law the federal government has its own systems force that. And to the extent we can assure the community we wont be a Deportation Force and take part in federal Immigration Enforcement is critical. With respect to this vast community the federal government has put itself in this situation which will require a lot more enforcement people than it ever had here. Tom vacar, ktvu fox 2 news. The white house is working to overcome criticism of the Republicans Health care bill after estimates that millions would lose the insurance coverage. Today President Trump ignored questions from the Congressional Budget Office that 14 million americans would lose insurance in the first year. Republicans pointed out that the bill would reduce the deficit by 330 billiondollars over a decade. Democrats say that is because of the proposed cuts to the Medicaid Expansion that had provided coverage for millions of lowincome people. Under the proposal of the republicans. Number of people underinsured would not grow to where it was before the Affordable Act but more people to be insured. It is the goal that every american has a plan that they can afford and they have the choice to buy. Some moderate republicans oppose the proposed roll back of medicaid. Conservative republicans afford the bill saying it doesnt go far enough to dismantle obama care. Despite the objections leaders have to push the bill through the house next week. The legislation faces a more difficult road in the senate. Covered california released its analyst of the impact of the Republican Health care bill. It would eliminate the subsidies based on Health Care Costs and would provide tax credits link to a persons age and would let insurers charge more for older people.
