A car and a light pole crashed right into their home just missing a fiveyearold boy inside. Reporter the family is grateful to be alive, but the father is upset with the driver. They said when they came out of the house, he was stumbling around and appeared to be intoxicated. The pole came crashing into the family room. It was taken out and you can see it is now sitting here in the yard. This happened just before 11 00 last night at lafayette and lewis. A husband, wife, fiveyearold son and a friend were sitting on the couch talking when they heard a crash. Then suddenly, they saw bright lights coming toward them. The front window started breaking and a light pole came crashing through. It narrowly missed hitting their fiveyearold son. The family friend grabbed the boy and jumped out of the way. It was terrifying. It happened really quickly. The easiest way we can explain it was kind of like a bomb went off right outside. All we knew was that our window was flying at us. I consider us very fortunate. Reporter when they went outside, they realized a car had also hit the home. That is what sheared off the light pole. Police arrested the man under suspicion of driving under the influence. This is the third time a car has hit the busy house. Streets have been evacuated because of a natural gas leak. It is precautionary. The leak was reported to pg e just after 9 30 no morning. No word on what caused the leak. Right now, the socalled sherpa fire is threatening hundreds of homes and mandatory evacuations are in effect. Now, we have our meteorologist Rosemary Orozco joining us live here this morning tracking the conditions near that huge fire. Unfortunately, we are expecting the weather conditions to worsen. We are look at sun downers coming our way. Hot and dry. That will bring the humidity down to critically low levels. For today, not too bad. 75 degrees this afternoon. Relative humidity dropping 25 . And the northwesterly wind picking up to about 20 miles an hour or so. But again as we get into the weekend, saturday, more so sunday. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 90s. We are talking about a warming trend. A drying trend. Firefighters will definitely have their hands full. The wind blowing the smoke into areas like Santa Barbara and all the communities along the coastline. So air quality issues could become something they have to deal with. Their actions are coordinated both on the ground and in the air. The fire flared up again in the overnight hours for the second night in a row. The winds start picking up 5 00 in the afternoon. The first night the fire grew from about 200 acres to 1200 acres overnight. Then last night, it grew from about 1200acre to more than 4,000 acres. Now, this is rugged steep terrain. The homes are very widely scattered. It is ranch property. It is horse property. This area has a history of fire danger so people are used to evacuating. So far, there has been no loss of life and no structures lost. And, the Firefighters Want to keep it that way. With the winds forecast again for tonight, the continued hot temperatures, we are talking 70s and 80s. The five years of drought conditions, this doesnt look good for containment any time soon. Right now, they are putting the figure at only 5 . Several years ago, there was a big fire in Santa Barbara county. Is this the same area or different . Reporter it is about 20 miles away. It is much more of a rugged, the Los Padres National forest type terrain. Santa barbara is very developed with a lot of home ins the hillsides. This is much more isolated. The homes are fewer and further between. It is about 20 miles away. But it is the same county. The same area. The smoke still heavy. So, this is something that people here are used to. Scattered showers being reported over the north bay, but as i show you here, Storm Tracker 2, you will see that the moisture not only in the north bay, in fact, we will stop the radar and take a little bit of a closer look. We are picking up a little bit of green along the coastline right there in San Francisco. Take a look at the east bay hills. Stretching in areas right around palo alto, sunnyvale, a few sprinkles falling on you. We will continue to see this pattern for the next few hours. We will continue to wind down as we get into the evening hours but this is the main focus of where this is all coming from. This has to move to the east before it takes the moisture with it. We will be in and out of the clouds and we will continue with the possibility of the scattered showers. I also want to point your attention to the upper level winds. But, the visitor who wandered off the highway thursday about noon. Looks like a Pretty Healthy animal. Just out looking for breakfast. Oh my god. It looks like a baby. Reporter its a gated property, certainly, there are obstacles to getting in. But this bear, about two years old, 100 pounds, found a way. A gap in the fence. And, open the other side, a few dozen vineyard workers who looked up and couldnt belief their eyes. Stopped work. Everybody was pretty afraid. They called 911. Reporter they shouted hoping to scare him off. The bear ran around the vineyard a little bit terrified usually. Trying to escape. Ran back into the woods. Reporter the black bear is californias only species and can be brown or cinnamon colored too. The population has doubled in 20 years to 30,000. So encounters have become more common. Especially in campgrounds where the bears expect to find food. I think it is pretty awesome. I didnt know there were bears in sonoma county. Im concerned it is not getting what it needs. Why is it down here . Reporter in fact, the bear just probably followed its nose. It is about 100 times better than that of a blood hound and 10,000 times better than a human being. So, it can smell things that we wouldnt even begin to smell. I think it is great. Im kind of a little sad he didnt show up here to have a pint with us you know .
