The public, you will have a chance to hear more this afternoon about a proposed mobile phone tracking program in Santa Clara County. Brian flores is joining us live in san jose and you have the details and also the privacy concerns that are being raised. Reporter the Sheriffs Department says this system would primarily be used to catch criminals and find missing people. There are privacy concerns and those concerns will be addressed here at the Sheriffs Department later this afternoon during a public meeting. From what we understand the system will be used to triangulate phones by using existing networks, it could include location of a missing person and requiring data on criminal activity. The Department Says the system can be used if a judge signs a warrant to allow it dependent on and situation. It can be used in life and death situations and after its been used it will have to get a signed warrant by a judge. The system is fully funded by the department of Homeland Security at a cost of just over 500,000. A similar system called a stingray is being used in other parts of the bay area. This is what it looks nick in the story last year. It tells nearby cell phones to connect to it by using normal cell towers. It can create a cellphone within 9 feet. The concern with all the surveillance is privacy and the information that is gathered. The meeting is scheduled for 1 00 at the sheriffs office. Dock workers walked off the job to go to a Union Meeting to go through the day side shift. We need to settle it immediately, we cant wait now. While negotiations go on billions of dollars of cargo go and there are 28 west coast sports. Theyre working around this port dispute. Its cutting the production by 5,000 cars. They cant ship parts to assembly lines. Production has been cut by 20,000 cars. In some cases honda has been forced to suspend production of cars. These cars are affected by this, and its not clear if consumers will have to pay more as a result. The transformation is almost complete at levi stadium for the match up with the l. A.
