City police tried to make a felony stop on a stolen car with two men inside. That car sped off leading officers on a pursuit. Eventually the driver and passenger bailed out of the car in San Francisco and thats when police shot one of the men several times. Killing him. It is unclear if that was the passenger or the driver. Police are not saying at this point whether the man who was shot had a weapon. Can you tell me if the person who was killed was armed . I cant say exactly if that person was armed or not. Just too early in the investigation. Too early in the investigation to say exactly what happened. Now, the second man who was inside that car was taken into custody by police. No officers were shot during all of this. But at least one officer did sustain some minor injuries. In fact the car that the two men were inside actually rolled into a police car. And hit that police car. Now, as we bring you back out live to the picture, San Francisco homicide investigators are out here still gathering evidence. They will be working with the District Attorneys Office to piece together this Deadly Police shooting. We also did this morning put in a call to daily city police for a comment on what took place here since their department was involved. We were referred to San Francisco police. Live this morning in San Francisco, alex sav ige, ktvu channel 2 news. A gas leak in hayward caused several homes and businesses to be evacuated at 10 15 last night at fletcher and mission boulevard. Several streets were closed while pg e crews worked to cap the gas leak. And firefighters say it happened when the crew was working on a Road Construction project. The units arrived on the scene. They found that construction crews doing Road Construction work had accidentally hit a gas main. It appears to be a two inch gas main. The gas was turned off and everyone was allowed back in their homes around 1 00 this morning. No injuries have been reported. Politicians are pointing fingers in washington. The u. S. Is now under a sequester. President obama signed an order authorizing federal departments to slash 85 billion through september 30, the end of the federal fiscal year. In the weekly address this, mork the president accused this morning, the president accused republicans of hurting the middle class by rejecting the proposal to close tax loopholes for the wealthy. It is happening because republicans in congress chose this outcome over closing a single tax loophole that helps reduce the budget. President obama says the sequester jeopardizes the National Security and the wages and hours of Border Control and flight delays could be cut and flays up to 90 minutes at major airports because of fewer air traffic controllers. The president must stop using this debate as an excuse to raise taxes and start seizing this opportunity to cut spending. Republican congresswoman from Washington State, cathy mcmorrisrogers gave the g. O. P. Response. She says while the Democrat Controlled Senate failed to pass any replacement plan, the republicanled house tried twice to replace the sequester with responsible cuts and reforms. Today more than a dozen people who cant afford Health Insurance are getting some much needed care for free. Doctors and nurses at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco are volunteering their services to perform free surgeries. About 30 patients have been selected to receive those treatments. Engineers are back at a home in florida where a 30foot sinkhole swallowed up a bedroom with a man inside. Crews say the sinkhole is extremely unstable and could collapse any time. It opened up on thursday night. The man inside the bedroom, when it collapsed, has not been found. Ive never seen anything like it. Ive never seen anything move so fast. And do so much devastation. The victims brother tried to rescue him but eventually rescue crews had to pull him out of the house. Officials say the sinkhole is growing and therefore a number of homes in the area have been evacuated. Fearing another collapse. Firefighters in Southern California expect a full containment today on a Massive Wildfire that threatened several homes. The fire is just west of riverside. In the harupa valley. It has burned more than 300 acres since thursday. As of this morning, that fire is 60 contained. But firefighters do expect to have it fully under control by 8 00 tonight. One mobile home was destroyed. And another home badly damaged. So far, no injuries have been reported. Back here at home, firefighters in oakland are trying to figure out what caused a fire that forced a family out of their home. That fire started around 7 00 last night, on 63rd avenue, near bancroft. Firefighters say it started in the back of the home. The four People Living there now have to find a new place to live. The cause is under investigation. But firefighters dont believe it is suspicious. More than two dozen new firefighters have joined the San Jose Fire Department thanks to an 8 million federal grant. Firefighters also took a 10 salary cut to help the department make the new hires. They come after layoffs and more than a year of station brownouts. Every member of our department has made personal sacrifice to allow for us to be able to hire these folks and we desperately need it. And those new firefighters report for duty tomorrow. Construction is now under way for the first in a series of memorial playgrounds to honor victims of the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. In seabright new jersey, this playground is dedicated to special Education Teacher ann marie murphy. She was among the six teachers and 20 children killed in the december shooting in newtown connecticut. Seabright which was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy was chosen for the first playground because they both share the sandy name. In colorado defense attorney in the theater shooting case consider a plea of insanity and that cant happen until the judge rules on the constitutionality of the state insanity defense law.
