Very much so tori, that means cooler weather for everyone. When the low clouds make it out to fairfield and travis, that tells us it will be cooler with 60s, 70s and very low 80s. Heres sal. Good morning. Westbound highway 24 traffic is moving along nicely coming up to the willow pass grade. San mateo bridge traffic looks good out to the high rise. Back to the desk. San jose firefighters rescued a woman from a house fire. However, her nearly 100 cats did not survive. At 1 45 this morning fire crews responded to the flames on polvadero drive. Ktvus janine de la vega has new information on the challenging rescue. Good morning, janine. Reporter good morning, tori. Its just a sad situation that left the homeowner, who you can see behind me on the phone, just stunned. It was also surprising for firefighters who have never seen so many cats. About 100 of them. It was a challenge to fight. The crates are all burned and char from the fire. The fire broke out at 1 45 near santa teresa and burn el. Heres video of the woman who lives here. She said her dog, bunny, is a hero. Her dog woke her up and thats what alerted her to the fire in her bedroom. She rain to an enclosed patio that was locked. While she was waiting to be saved by firefighters there was nothing she could do for the hundred or so cats in the kennels suffocating in the fire. She said she didnt panic but shared why she could not get out. Theres a door there but its a security door with a dead bolt and the keys were all by the laundry room, by the room on fire. So they had to bust through the wire to get bunny and i out. Reporter seven cats survived the fire. Five are at an Animal Hospital and may have suffered smoke inhalation. The woman that you just heard from, carol miller, says that she does run a cat rescue operation. The house that she lives in suffered major damage. Its gutted. She tells us she didnt leave any candles on. She has no idea how this fire started. She said the smoke alarms didnt activate. Right now, firefighters are going to be investigating the cause of the fire. Youre looking at a live picture of actually two cat kennels that are covered up with that blue blanket there. There are two cats that are there that have survived, but they are being covered because the cats have been traumatized because of the fire. The owner is waiting for them to be transported to anan Animal Hospital to an Animal Hospital. Shes still figuring out where shes gonna live. The house was just renovated. Janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. Thank you. Once again, the acquittal of George Zimmerman in florida has led to trouble in oakland. If you refuse to move, you will be arrested if you refuse to move protesters document over the streets in downtown oakland for the third night in a row. Police made at least nine arrests in this latest violence episode. Many downtown storeowners say they are simply fed up with their businesses becoming targets. Its a mess. Were learning about one brutal attack during last nights violence in downtown oakland. It happened at the floor restaurant on telegraph. Police say a group of men confronted one waiter inside the restaurant. The oakland developer said he was served by that same waiter before the attack. He was approached. Because he refused to defend himself, he was hit in the hammer. Some Oakland Police officers had to leave last nights downtown protest to respond to a shooting in east oakland. Investigators say a 15yearold boy was among two people wounded in the gunfire on 78th avenue last night. Theres no word on their condition. Officers are still looking for suspects and a possible motive. An update on breaking news in San Francisco. Police have surrounded a building in the mission district, where a shooting suspect is believed to be hiding. Ktvus alex savidge was the first reporter on scene. I understand the Police Presence continues to grow. Reporter it does. This all began when a man called 911 earlier this morning to say he had been shot. He told police the man who shot him was inside of a home here on bryant street just up the block right here on 22nd street. Police are still out there. Theyve surrounded this home. I want to show you some of the action that took place as s. W. A. T. Officers came in. Two men were detained. Police at this point arent telling us exactly what their involvement may have been. We did see earlier this morning at least ten people were brought out of the house and searched. None of them were taken into custody. The original shooting that led to the standoff was at 4 30 this morning. Thats when police say a man was hit by gunfire. We saw as he was taken away by paramedics. He was taken away and treated at the hospital and is expected to survive. The motive remains unclear. But as we bring you out here to a live picture, more Police Officers are moving towards this house. It appears the scene could be winding down. Two men detained. It happened before 11 00 last night at spear and howard in San Francisco. Police say the 40yearold man appeared to be intoxicated. Witnesses say he walked out in front of the vehicle before being struck. According to officials, the man suffered nonlifethreatening injuries. 7 07. Thats been removed. If you are driving into San Francisco, good area to avoid to be Park Presidio at fulton as they clear an injury accident at that intersection. Lets go to steve. All right, sal. Cooler pattern for us, a much, much bigger fog bank. High pressure has been pushed down to the desert southwest. Today will be the coolest day, a little cooling on sunday. Well bottom out today. We are hearing for the first time from one of the jurors who found George Zimmerman not guilty. Concealing her identity, she did an interview with cnns anderson cooper. She said the evidence presented in the case convinced her that zimmerman felt his life was in danger when she shot Trayvon Martin and she does not believe race was a factor. I think if there was another person, spanish, white, asian, if they came in the same position they were trayvon was, i think george would have reacted the exact same way. Juror b37 said some members wanted to find zimmerman guilty of something. But she said after hours of deliberating and reading over the law they decided there was nothing to support a different verdict. A woman who is accused of attacking singer Lester Chambers while he dedicated a song to Trayvon Martin is facing charges. 73yearold chammers was performing in hayward on saturday. You can see a woman jumping on stage and then pushing chambers down. She reportedly yelled its all your fault. She was quickly tackled by other musicians. Shes identified as dena japan lynn andrews denalynn andrews. Chambers is recovering at home. A fremont han has pleaded guilty to murder but wont face prison time. In august of 2006, prosecutors say papal was driving his suv in fremont when he hit and killed 54yearold steven jay wilson. Prosecutors say he then drove to San Francisco where he crashed into more than a dozen other people. Yesterday, the judge ruled he was not guilty by reason of insanity. He will now stay at Napa State Hospital indefinitely. Doctors are looking into the mystery of a florida man found unconscious in a Palm Springs Hotel and woke up with no memory. The Oakland Raiders want to build a new stadium that would be the smallest in the nfl. A new study paid for by the raiders says about says a 50,000seat stadium would be the most financially responsible replacement for the current oakland coliseum. A stadium construction expert says the new stadium would cost 800 million. There are reports the raiders say they could contribute 300 million to the cost and 200 million more might be available from the nfl. It will be the coolest day. Deep fog bank, local drizzle coast, all the way down to monterey, San Francisco, plenty of low clouds to go around. Temperatures are actually cooler by the coast. Some of the temperatures in lake county hit the 40s which is not something theyve had for a long, long time. That low spinning off the coast is responsible for the bigger fog bank, the westerly breeze and also some of that drizzle. Low, overcast, drizzle. Windy in spots.
