Traffic is shut down both ways as a hazmat cleanup is underway right now after nearly a thousand hypodermic needles were discovered on the roadway. It happened at 5 00 on the 57 line near macarthur boulevard andardly avenue and ardly avenue. Police sources tell us the victim is 18 years old and he suffered burns to both of his legs. Right now, no word on a possible suspect or motive. But police say theres Surveillance Video from the bus. Were getting new details about the man shot last month by San Francisco police in the marina district. Prosecutors say Police Wounded 19yearold rome l nabarez after he tried to rob a man answering his ad on kraigs list. And he was facing previous charges in daly city for ads on craigslist. Yesterday, he pleaded not guilty to robbery charges during an arraignment. It was held at his hospital bedside. Hes still being treated for three gunshot wounds. Uc berkeley asking a judge to throw out a federal lawsuit by parents who say the school is responsible for the death of their 22yearold daughter and her 6yearold son. The two were in a car driven by the daughters boyfriend when he crashed into a tree. Police say he was drunk at the time. Hes now serving six years in prison for vehicular manslaughter. The parents say the school did not take steps to investigate and protect their daughter when she reported to her housing director that her boyfriend was abusing both her and her son. The school says theres no proof that report was made. Voters in antioch will be deciding today whether they want to pay more in sales tax so the city can hire more Police Officers. Supporters say a yes vote on measure c will enable the Police Department to hire 22 more officers by raising the sales tax from 8 1 2 to 9 . But opponents argue that theres no guarantee the money will be used to put more officers on the streets because the sales tax money will go into the general fund. People who live in oakland in the Oakland Hills have until november 13th to decide the fate of a parcel tax designed to prevent fires like the one in 1991 that killed 25 people. The tax pays for services that include extra fire patrols on high fire danger days, goat grazing to remove dry grass, and cutting back brush for emergency escape routes. The parcel tax would cost 78 per Single Family home and 58 for multifamily members. There are elections across the country today. Chris christie seems to be on his way to reelection. And the chp has another concern. Its offices are located on one of the main roads leading to the casino. That may make it hard to send out emergency vehicles. The chp says the casino agreed to open up on a weekday to try to work out any traffic problems before the weekend. This morning, theres a warning about mountain lions in woodside in San Mateo County thats after a deer was found dead on private property on woodside road. Deputies think the dear was killed by deer was killed by a mountain lion. Deputies say people should avoid hiking, jogging and biking at dawn. City officials in palo alto are moving ahead with the plan to prevent cars and trains from crossing paths. Last night, the city council took the First Step Towards building a trench between the train tracks and several submerged roadway crossings. Supporters say these trenches would make the streets of palo alto safer. However, critics are saying the project is too expensive and would do little to prevent accidents. The San Francisco supervisors are set to vote today on a controversial park curfew measure. It would shut down the citys parks between midnight and 5 00 a. M. Supporters say the curfew would reduce vandalism and other crimes that happen during the overnight hours. Opponents say the measure unfairly targets the homeless. 7 11. The body of the suspected gunman was found early this morning. Its believed he killed himself. Reporter chris welch is live in new jersey with what police are saying now about the shooter. Good morning, chris. Reporter good morning, tori. Yeah. It was a nightmare scenario for the hundreds inside this mall. It was an alleged shooter who then turns the gun on himself. But that was not before a very long night of panic. It happened just before closing time at the westfield Garden State Plaza mall. Police say Richard Shoop entered the Shopping Center and opened fire monday night. They were boom, and then another boom, and then another last boom right after that, right after the second one and then glass, glass everywhere. Reporter shoop used a rifle modified to look like an ak47 but did not aim the weapon at anyone in particular. He had plenty of opportunities to shoot people. There were witnesses within five feet from him but he chose not to. Instead, he just hit random targets. And fired at the ceiling. Reporter many shoppers fled the mall but about 400 people were left inside. They huddled in stores as the building went on lockdown. Everybody was scared and panicked. So we took everybody we went in the back of the store. We locked ourselves in with 13 people in total, including me. Reporter the s. W. A. T. Team moved in scouring the sprawling Shopping Center looking for the gunman. Hours later. Police found the 20yearolds body. The Bergen County prosecutor said he shot himself in the head. He has a history of drug abuse but we believe the main motive for what he did tonight was suicide. Reporter now, Authorities Say this man did not show any signs of mental illness. However, he did have a history of drug abuse. Tori . All right, chris welch live for us in paramus, new jersey. Police in denver say the two teenagers who broke into a School Overnight likely used bb guns. A janitor reportedly saw two teens enter the school with what he thought were rifles. Police say the teens were caught on video ransacking several rooms before being arrested. The two suspects are not believed to be students at the school and police are trying to figure out if the teens may be connected to a breakin at an Elementary School earlier this same night. 7 16. A new report says the bay areas hightech boom hasnt improved job numbers for young people. 12. 3 of young people between the ages of 16 and 24 are both not working and not in school. A special Ops Commander is looking at ways to protect his forces. He wants to borrow an idea from hollywood. Hes ordered up the tactical assault light operator suit better known as the ironman suit. It features light weight Armor Protection against bullets and could possibly be equipped with Battery Power and give the soldier more abill to move faster and operate longer in battle but the one thing the suit wont do is fly. No major problems as you drive through. It will be busy. Also the morning commute is looking okay at the toll plaza. Its about a 20 to 25minute delay if you are at the end of the line once you make it on the bridge. Contra costa county, highway 4, some slow traffic. Weve had a couple of fender benders on 680 and the traffic backed up from 2 had 242. Lets go to steve. Clear skies, cold for some. Lows anywhere from 33 to 60.
