Were giving you a live look at highway 101 in San Francisco this morning. There were some big problems out there this morning when a garbage truck hit a pedestrian. It did shut down traffic for a while. As that investigation got underway, were going to have a live report on just exactly what happened coming up in just a upl of minutes. A couple of minutes. Northbound 101, approaching the 80 split, that traffic is moving along nicely until you get to the lower deck of the bay bridge. I want to mention that the traffic around the Shopping Mall isnt all that bad. As we look at the malls, we have been looking at walnut creek for example, its not exactly a mall. Its a shopping area and some of the streets are getting crowded. No major problems on the freeway nearby. Sun valley mall, the same thing goes, a little bit of crowding at the mall itself, but 680 looks good nearby. Lets go to Tara Moriarty who is near the scene of a collision in San Francisco that happened early this morning. Whats going on in the area now. Reporter well, you know, investigators are trying to figure out why this woman was on the freeway Walking Around to begin with. She is now at San Francisco General Hospital fighting for her life. The scene is clear but well show you where it happened, behind me here on eastbound 80. Shopper 2 flew over the scene shortly after 5 30 when the 911 call in. The chp called this a possible fatal but crews got on scene and found signs of life. The womans heart was beating. Crews transported her to the hospital. After the accident, chp shut down 101 northbound and made drivers get off at vermont strategy. Exactly a half hour ago, officers opened street. And new this morning, the chp is investigating a deadly crash on an east bay freeway. That happened around 12 30 this morning on the interstate 80 in richmond. Investigators say a driver crashed into the Center Divide and got out of his car. He then tried to leave that crash scene by walking across the freeway and thats when another car hit and killed him. The chp says the driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with investigators. They do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Happening now at the port of oakland, picket lines are up. These are live pictures. News chopper 2 flying over. The Truck Drivers are demanding Financial Relief from environmental regulations that they say forces them to upgrade their trucks. On wednesday at the port of oakland, a Police Officer was hurt right there during a similar demonstration. A car accidentally ran over his foot. You saw him limping there. The injury was not believed to be serious. Now, the Truck Drivers say if they dont get more compensation, a lot of them are going to be forced out of business because they cant afford the extra cost. Police chased two men to a parking lot. One officer struggled with a suspect, his arm got tangled and he was dragged by the car briefly before other officers fired shots into the car. Post thanksgiving breakfast is being served to those less fortunate right now. 500 volunteers and prepared and served 5000 thanksgiving meals at the church yesterday. Many volunteers said they had personal reasons to be there. I have a lot of friends and family who maybe arent in as good a position as i am. So i want to give back a little bit. Volunteers also prepared 1500 dinners to go. They are looking ahead. Food items dropped off on thanksgiving at San Francisco<\/a> st. Anthonys dining hall are being saved so they can be served at a later date. Good stuff. Time 7 18. Lets check in with sal. So far youre getting a holiday from heavy traffic. A little bit. Whats happening is people are out shopping but not really crowding the roads in case youre trying to get into San Francisco<\/a>. And i realize you may have to go to work today, one of the good things about that is you wont have to worry about having a lot of slow traffic on the roads. As a matter of fact, traffic continues to move along pretty well. This is a look at interstate 80, and the traffic here is moving along very nicely are no major problems. Ive been looking at the malls, and not all of them, but most of them, and we have been looking at all of them, i wont show them to you in this report. Not a lot of traffic on the roads in emeryville area. Theres a little bit of traffic on 580 o as you come up on the mcarthur maze in the usual spot there. The walnut creek area, and 680 looks pretty good near downtown walnut creek, a lot of people shopping and the sun valley mall, traffic not affecting the freeway. A little bit of slowing on 685 appearing at some of the sun valley exits. The hill top mall, no traffic problems on interstate 80 approaching hill stop mall. And marin county, near costco, highway 101 looks good in that area. Were trying to keep an eye on the malls and well let you know if anything happens with that. 7 19. Lets go to steve. Thank you sal. I want to mention some earlier problems we have on 101. A garbage truck did hit a pedestrian eastbound 80 at 7th 7th in San Francisco<\/a>, and there was a major injury accident. This garbage truck slammed into the passenger just after 5 30 near 7th street. The woman was taken to San Francisco<\/a> General Hospital<\/a> where she reported suffering very serious injuries. Also new this morning, firefighters are knocked down a fire at a Party Supply Store<\/a> in san jose. It started at 4 15. You can see the smoke coming out. No one was hurt. Police officers and Security Officers<\/a> are out in force at bay area Shopping Mall<\/a>s this morning because violent incidents are up among shoppers determined to get those door buster deals. The black friday shoppers also face a threat from bold thieves. We talked to one mall shopper in san leandro who had a close call last year with some suspicious men on black friday. They looked like they were not shopping. Like they were trying to rob somebody. They wanted a tv, and like harassed us for it, but the police was right there, so they stopped it. That woman was at the same san leandro Shopping Mall<\/a> where there was a black friday shooting two years ago. A young man was wounded after someone tried to steal his christmas gifts. Small businesses in oakland are offering shoppers a chance to spend their money with them, and keep their money here in the community. It is all a part of black friday. And more than 45 businesses are going to take part in the event. The city of oakland is also going to offer free parking at meters and in 7 city owned lots today and then on the saturday until the end of the year. It is part of o an effort to pump more money into the oakland economy. After plaid friday and black friday comes a weekend full of Holiday Shopping<\/a> followed by cyber monday. Business owners in san rafael say the growing Homeless Population<\/a> is chasing away customers. The San Francisco<\/a> chronicle reports Homeless People<\/a> from all over the west coast are attracted to downtown san rafael because of services, including a soup kitchen and a free clinic and Business Owners<\/a> say the downtown area is too small to handle the growing Homeless Population<\/a> and they have suffered and lost thousands of dollars in business. The city of San Francisco<\/a> says steps are being taken to deal with the problem. Theyre even hiring the homeless to clean the streets and theyre also deploying more police downtown. A 12 year veteran of the San Jose Police<\/a> department is on paid leave this morning after a Deadly Police<\/a> shooting on thanksgiving day. Investigators it started when the suspect stabbed two men and a woman in east san jose, then carjacked a minivan across the street. Police say the suspect then led police on a short chase. It included going the wrong way on interstate 680. Well, the chase ended with a dangerous incident and a deadly confrontation. The suspect rammed the officer vehicle at which time the officer feared for his life and fired his duty weapon at the suspect. Now, at this point, police havent told us the name of the man who was killed. All three of the stabbing victims, they are expected to survive. The teenage victim of an apartheid crime is now describing that horrifying attack on macys transit bus. Sasha fleischman returned home from the hospital on tuesday and is now spending the Holiday Season<\/a> with family in oakland. Earlier this month, sasha was an on ac transit bus headed home from school, when someone set her skirt on fire. She attempted to put out the flames by waving the skirt. But that just made things worse. My second reaction which is probably what saved my life is i went back to my, you know, kindergarten class and stopped drop and roll, and i just drop on the floor and just start rolling around and some other passengers started stomping on the flames. A 16yearold boy who has admitted to setting sasha on fire remains in jail awaiting his next court date. Sasha says he is not ready to forgive him, at least not yet. Four men have a lot to be thankful for. They survived a crash with their car plunged down a steep embankment near halfmoon bay. Now the pilots involved in rescues them, theyre talking about it. The coast guard helicopter pulled the four men to safety there after their car careened several hundred feet down an embankment on highway 92 yesterday morning. One of the pilots involved says its a miracle they survived without any broken bones. Im not a medical professional, but they looked like they had went for a ride, thats for sure, and definitely looked relieved to be in the aircraft. The chp says it appears the driver of the car over corrected on a really tight turn. Speed and alcohol were not factors. All four men in the car were wearing seat belts. Cab drivers are being around about a coordinated crime. This has led to at least one attack in the east bay. It happened early yesterday morning in san leandro. Police say a cab driver picked up a passenger at the san leandro b. A. R. T. Station and drove him to the 600 block of marina boulevard. As a passenger got out, a masked man punched and robbed the cab driver. Police think the passenger and the masked man and they were working together. It is going to be a short day on wall street. Bay area Police Department<\/a> will have officers out this Holiday Weekend<\/a> looking for drivers under the influence. Now, in santa rosa, they want to know if alcohol was involved in this wednesday night crash that followed the chase. The driver in the crash hit a pole and a fence. Then the car burst into flames. Two men inside that car were taken to the hospital. The police hope to prevent similar crashes crashes by catching drivers who are speeding or running red lights. Minor traffic infractions, thats how we find the majority of impaired drivers. It could be weaving, following too close. Speeds, stop signs, red lights, the idea is we catch them before they hurt or kill somebody. The chp says officers typically make as many dui arrests during the thanksgiving holiday as they do on new years eve. If you are planning to head to the outlets in livermore this weekend, be prepared for a lot of traffic. The livermore Police Department<\/a> says it is expecting thousands of shoppers to pass through the Shopping Center<\/a> all the way up until christmas. Police are warning shoppers, be ready for back ups on interstate 580 and on jack london boulevard. Check out that line. A former marine accused of killing Homeless People<\/a> has died behind bars. 25yearold catampo is accused of killing 6 people, including 4 homeless man. He was taken to a medical facility in santa anna, died the next afternoon a. Cause of death has not been announced. A new report shows more inmates are attacking other inmates inside county jails. Ever since californias realignment law took effect. The Associated Press<\/a> found that inmate assaults were up 32 in the 10 counties they studied since the law took effect in october 2011. The population of the jails went up 14 . The re alignment law moved lower level offenders to county jails instead of state prisons as a way to reduce overcrowding. San joses christmas in the park celebration gets under way tonight. Its expected to attract a half Million People<\/a> to downtown san jose over the holidays. There will be extra Police Patrols<\/a> this year. Last year, a 14yearold boy was stabbed in a suspected gang related attack. The morning commute looks okay in San Francisco<\/a>. We had an earlier crash on northbound 101 at the 80 split. Thats gone. I want to show you the mall here or i want to show you the malls in a moment. One of the things i want to mention, chp is investigating a fatal crash on east bay freeway that happened around 12 30 this morning on interstate 80 in richmond. A driver crashed into the Center Divide<\/a>, then got out of his car, he tried to leave the crash and walk across the freeway and thats when another car a hit and killed him. The chp says that driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with investigators. He has shopping this year has been easier compared to last year. Last year it was crazy. Violence broke out at a cohls near chicago, an officer got his arm stuck in the get away car, and other officers saved him by shooting at the car. Investigators say the violence started when the suspect stabbed two men and a woman in east san jose, then carjacked a minivan. Police say the suspect then led officers on a short chase, including going the wrong way on interstate 680. The chase ended with a dangerous incident and a deadly confrontation. The suspect rammed the officer vehicle at which time the officer feared for his life. And fired his duty weapon at the suspect. At this point, police havent toll us the name of the man who was killed. All three of the stabbing victims are expected to survive. Well, a teenage victim of an apparent hate crime is describing the attack on board an ac transit bus one month ago. Sasha fleischman returned home from the hospital on tuesday and is spending the Holiday Season<\/a> with his family in oakland. Sasha was an on ac transit bus headed home from school when someone set sashas skirt on fire. Sasha attempted to put out the flames by waving the skirt but it made things worse. My second reaction which was probably what saverred my life is i went back to my, you know, kindergarten class and stop drop and roll. And soy just drop on the floor, and just start rolling around and some other passengers started stomping on the flames. A 16yearold boy who has admitted to setting sasha on fire, remains in jail awaiting his next court date. Sasha is not ready to forgive him, at least not yet. Well, you know the roads getting almost anywhere is going to be kind of easy. Once you get to the shopping areas, might be little more difficult to find parking. But at the bay bridge toll plaza, trying to get into San Francisco<\/a>, not a bad drive at all. It continues to look good. I want to mention if youre going to malls we have been highlighting. 280 looks good getting through. And a little bit of slow traffic in front of the mall on el camino royale, kind of crowded in the shopping area. The freeway is okay. If youre going to the emeryville area near home depot and best buy, should be okay on 580. We dont see a lot of slow traffic there as you drive through. 8 49. Lets look at 280 in san jose. Well show you the big holiday events, happening in the three largest bay area cities starting today. Pour men have a lot to be thankful for this Holiday Weekend<\/a> after they survived a terrifying plunge, in a steep embankment near halfmoon bay. The pilots involved in rescues them are speaking out. A coast guard helicopter pulled the men to safety after their car careened down an embankment on thanksgiving morning. One of the pilots involved said its a miracle can the four men survived without any broken bones. Im not a medical professional but they looked like they had went for a ride for sure, and looked relieved to be in the aircraft. The chp says it appears the driver over corrected on a hair pin turn and speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. All four men in the car were wearing their seat belts. Bay area Police Departments<\/a> will be in full force looking for drivers under the influence. Police want to know if alcohol played a role in a car that involved a chase. The car burst into flames. Two men in the car were taken to the hospital. Police hope to prevent similar crashes by looking for drivers speeding or running red lights. Minor traffic infractions, thats how we find the majority of impaired drivers, it could be weaves, following too close. Speed, stop signs red lights, the idea is we catch them before they hurt or kill somebody. The chp says officers typically make as many dui arrests during the thanksgiving holiday as they do on new years eve. Claudine, san joses christmas in the park celebration starts tonight.
