Back to the desk. New this morning a fire at an oakland beation forced the evacuation of gas station forced the evacuation of two people. That fire was reported at a 76th gas station in east oakland. Paul chambers joins us from the scene with more on the fire that came after a highspeed chase and a crash, paul. Reporter good morning, claudine. Luckily, nobody was severely injured in this tion swa. Its situation. Take a look. Its at the gas station. It all started after deputies were head on a liespeed chase town 98th avenue before the vehicle lost control and took out two gas bumps. Some residents say that initial crash woke them up. Thats when i woke up my family and said lets go. It blew up another additional second time and thats when theman hole went up the manhole went up. Reporter investigators say the deputies pulled the suv over at 98th and d streets as part of the dui task force. When the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver sped off, driving a mile down 98th before he lost control and ran into the gas pump. The irony of the situation, the deputy who initially has to do the stop as part of the avoid campaign now has to save this driver from his burning vehicle. The fire chief says the attendant at the gas station hit off the switch to prevent more burning. The people who were evacuated were allowed to return home. As for the driver, he was taken to a nearby hospital where he has a possible broken leg. The passenger will not face charge. I will tell you okay back out here live, fire crews are out here taking air quality checks to make sure theres no additional gas in the air. So far no issues whatsoever. Solano county investigators are searching for four men in connection with a violent Home Invasion robbery. Around 6 00 last night, investigators say four masked men burst into a home on poplar road outside of vacaville. Police say five people were inside the house. One was shot and injured. Two others were beaten. The suspects are described as two white men and two African American men, all about 6 feet tall. They were seen driving off in a late 1990s, silver camry. Happening today arraignment scheduled for a San Francisco woman accused of causing this crash, a crash that killed a 16yearold. Prosecutors say jenny zu was driving up to 80 miles an hour when she hit a minivan on pine street in september. The crash killed kevin san, a junior at lincoln school. Seriously injured his mother and sister. Zu faces manslaughter. If convicted, she could get up to seven years in prison. San franciscos City Attorney has joined the investigation into the partial collapse of the house in the twin peaks area monday night. The home is owned by mel murphy who recently served on San Franciscos building inspection commission. The house was being renovated at the time. The chronicle says the City Attorney has sent a letter to murphy indicating this case could end up in court. There is a new report calling for change in the chicken industry pause of a salmonella outbreak. Tara moriarty is live in walnut creek with more on what this report is saying needs to happen. Tara . Reporter well, the people who wrote this report, they would like inspectors to drop by chicken facilities unannounced to test. They would also like them to be more adamant about releasing some of these communicate the outbreaks to consumers through these Public Health alerts as soon as possible. These are some of the proposals outlined in the report. This most recent salmonella outbreak is linked to foster farms changen with about 4 chicken with 400 people getting sick in 23 states. The seven strains are particularly toxic. People have been hospitalized at tubl the rate expected a previous outbreak happened last year. It made 134 people sick in 13 states. One consumer we spoke to said the outbreak is scary. When i shop, i always buy something that has organic or i want something that i know is gonna be safe or they are freerange chingens. Im hoping they will be safer. Reporter the reports author says when more than 500 people get sick from two outbreaks asoak social associated with chicken, its clear those standards are not promoting Public Health. Police in East Palo Alto are searching for a driver who hit a man in a crosswalk and then took off. It happened last night just after 6 30 on University Avenue and running mead street. Police say the man suffered broken bones and a possible head injuries. They are asking anyone who saw the crash to call them. Vallejo is taking another step to remove blight in the city. The Neighborhood Law Program first targeted abandons homes and squatters. Now the city has sent letters notifying hotels to clean up, cracking down on drunkenness and prospy prostitution. The California Public Utilities Commission meets today about the future of a controversial pipeline in san carlos. The board will consider how long pg e should be fined for allegedly delaying and misleading the commission about the safety of that 84yearold pipeline which carries natural gas through the pipeline. The fines range from 6 million to 17 million. The commission will consider whether to allow crews to restore that pipeline to its maximum pressure. The cpcu is expected to approve a new area code for the bay area. The Commission Says all of the numbers for the 415 area code, they will be used up by october 2015. Fire crews are cleaning up after a huge fire raced through a strip mall south of Downtown Los Angeles late last night. Investigators say the fire started inside the superdiscount store in hawthorne. It was really going. It did spread to other nearby stores and then the roof of one of those nearby stores collapsed. More than 100 firefighters worked to put out the flames. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The cause of that fire remains under investigation. A south bay church has been ordered to pay damages in connection to a molestation case. A civil jury in san jose found the church on the hill was partly negligible even though they let the man go for inappropriate contact with children. He was still recommended to a Daycare Center. And thats where he allegedly molested three girls. Woodhouse, the Daycare Center and the church will pay more than a Million Dollars in damage, with the church responsible for 17 . He was sentenced to 30 years to life for abusing children at daycare programs.
