A suspected serial arsonist in san jose is in Police Custody this morning after terrorizing a neighborhood for more than a week. 13 firefighters have occurred in the same downtown corridor and neighbors have been on edge. Well, people who live in this neighborhood tell me they are finally gonna be able to sleep at that night now that arsonist is behind bars. You know, theyve been telling me that they felt vulnerable because this arsonist strikes in the middle of the night. They dont know when he was gonna strike next. Police say he was caught shortly after 8 00 and sources tell ktvu that he lives near here. Heres the sketch that Police Released over the weekend of a person of interest for the arsons. We dont know if the person officers took into custody resembles it. We learned that the departments covert Response Unit had been watching the suspect waiting for him to strike. Numerous surveillance videos from Home Security systems in the neighborhood show a person walking near the fire scenes. We also have exclusive video showing a skinny, lightskinned man on a porch of the home and setting one of the fires. This suspect is believed to have ignited fires at numerous homes, a business and a church. Neighbors we spoke to this morning say they are relieved but they have questions for the suspect. I want to know why he did that to so many innocent people, and i just i just dont know what would go through someones head to do Something Like that. He must be anfry about something. A lot of rage. Reporter residents banded together signing out to be lookout patrols overnight and passing out fliers with the sketch. They are curious to find out more about the arrest. The arsonist hadnt struck since the weekend, we know police were waiting for him to make a move. Were not sure what prompted police to make the move because, again, he hadnt struck since the weekend. We plan to get more details at 10 00 a. M. Thats when the Police Department has scheduled a News Conference to talk more about the case. San Francisco Police are continuing their investigation into that explosive device blown up in the outer sunset neighborhood. Investigators say it could take several weeks to determine what it was. The tuesday night blast rattled the area of 46th avenue and judah street, damaging a Convenience Store. The family who lives next door to the home where the device was found is demanding to know why they werent told to evacuate. Governor brown is expected to make an official announcement declaring a drought here in california. It may come as early as tomorrow. Starting today, marin county is taking emergency action. People can expect water rationing and possible fines in the next six weeks if we dont see some rain. For the first time, marin county will be dipping in water reserves. For the next 30 day, they are gonna siphon water up the hill to mount tam. They want to use the supply now before it begins to evaporate. The district doesnt like to pump water uphill because its so expensive but it has little choice. People who live here say they are not bothered by the rationing. I think its a good idea. I think we use too much water and we should ration where we can. Its obvious we havent had enough rain. Well have to have restrictions and its something that should be started as soon as possible. Reporter rationing 37 years ago required building a Water Pipeline across the Richmond San Rafael bridge and site restrictions. Landscapers worry that people dont want to plant with water rationing looming and restaurants are cutting back on the number of water glasses they put on tables. A hearing is scheduled in the case of the 16yearold boy, richard thomas, charged with a hate crime for the sack attack on Sasha Fleishman. Fleishman was wearing a skirt at the time of the attack and suffered second and third degree burns. Thomas is charged as an adult but his attorneys argue the case should be moved to juvenile court. The antioch man charged with kidnapping a 7yearold girl earlier this month will go back to court on february 26th. Yesterday, 43yearold David Douglas needed not guilty. Hes accused of pleaded not guilty. Hes accused of following a child and her mother from a Walmart Store and then abducting the child in the case. She was found safe at the antioch marina. Douglas remains jailed on 7 million jail. A golf pro from livermore accused of child molestation is facing new charges. A third child now accuses him of sexual abuse and showing him porn graphfy. He faces 75 charges now. Hes a nationally recognized golf instructor who worked at the golf academy in livermore. Hes being held without bail at the santa rita jail in dublin. The Church Sex Abuse scandal has led to a financial crisis for one diocese in california. The diocese in stockton is filing for chapter 7. Its paid out tens of millions of dollars of judgments and settlement stemming from child abuse allegations. The largest settlement was in 2012 in a case involving priest michael kelly. That settlement alone was 3. 7 million. Meanwhile, the vatican is still facing Harsh Criticism for its handling of the presex abuse scandal. A special hearing was held in geneva. Police say a gunman walked into the store with a seem my automatic weapon and shot semiautomatic weapon and shot and killed a woman. Then he walked to another aisle and shot and killed another woman. There were several rounds fired in there. Both from police and from the suspect. Anybody thats ever been in a Grocery Store can imagine that the shell casings and fragments and Everything Else are scattered all throughout the store. One shooting victim was a store employee in her late teens or early 20s. When police arrived, they shot and killed the gunman. Its not clear yet if he knew his victims. Meantime, the school in new mexico where a 12yearold boy shot two classmates on tuesday, it will reopen today. Police are still investigating the shooting that left two students badly injured and that shooter in custody. Police say the shot gun the boy used it belonged to his father. The boys parents and grandparents issued a statement expressing condolences for the shooting victims and saying they are heartbroken. 7 15. The air force is sounding off on what could be the biggest scandal in its history. 34 officers entrusted with land based Nuclear Missiles have been kicked off the job for alleged involvement in a cheating ring. They are suspected of cheating whoen a routine pro on a routine proficiency test that includes checking officers knowledge about how to handle whats called an emergency war order. Thats the term for the authorization required to launch a nuclear weapon. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior, and it is completely contari to our contrary to our values in the air force.
