There were no serious injuries thanks to the brave action of several adults including the dramatic step they did to save a childs life. Other commutes are not bad. Lets start off with the east bay. I can show you theres not a lot of red. Hayward to fremont, a little bit of slowing. The drive time between hayward and fremont is aboutsome is about 14, 15 minutes. A lot of traffic is transferred to pittsburg and bay point. 680 from concord to walnut creek is not bad, and 80 with slow traffic into richmond. Lets look at drive times. The bay bridge, 25 minute drive time from oakland to San Francisco. And also looking at 280 in san jose, it is nice looking drive from downtown into the west valley. 7 03. Lets go back to the desk. Thanks sal. We begin with developing news from hayward. Two huge fires just a short distance apart this morning. The most recent fire started about 2 hours ago. Ktvus alex savage was covering an apartment house fire on 7th 7th street when he smell smoke from the carport fire. Our crew raced to the scene to get incredible pictures and we just spoke to fire investigators in hayward. 9 cars were either damaged or destroyed. The carport fire created tense moments also for People Living nearby. It was extremely frightening. I was shaking. I didnt know what to do, and my roommates like leave before everything blows up. It was so scary. There are no reports of injuries. Crews are still on the scene trying to determine the cause. As we mentioned that r carport fire, it was right near another fire in hayward that started late last night. A child is among the people who barely escaped the fast moving flames from an Apartment Fire. Its been a very busy morning for hayward fire as well as ktvus alex savage. He is doing well this morning. One of his grandparents dropped him out of a second story window at this apartment that caught late last night. He was caught by his great aunt who was waiting down on the ground below. What happened last night . I jumped out the window. You justified . Was it it scary. Reporter thats 3yearold maurice. He gave us a smile even though he was worn out after a long night. He had to be taken to the hospital to get checked out. His mom told us he was not hurt during the fall. He was sleeping at his grandparents apartment last night when the place started burning at 11. Its on 7th street near c street and the only way for the family to get out was through a second story window, a 25foot drop down to the ground below. The boys grandmother and grandfather, they were injured when they made that jump from the second story to escape the smoke and flames. She hit her head on the ground. She has like four stitches and her pelvic bone or something is broken. Other than that shes fine. My step dad, he broke his ankle. The boys grandmother and grandfather are still in the hospital this morning but im told that they should make a full recovery from their injuries. Last nights fire appears to have started in the kitchen of this second story apartment. Investigators dont believe its suspicious, but the place was gutted and the family will have to find another place to live for the time being. She was killed sunday evening by a Freight Train passing through martinez. Police say the 8th grader ran onto the tracks to pick up a cell phone she had dropped. This mornings funeral starts at 10 30. It will be at christ the king church in Pleasant Hill. Happening today, a state senator is about to unveil audreys law. Its legislation cracking down on Cyber Bullying. Tara moriarty joining us live from saratoga now where some people say the current law isnt tough enough. Reporter the santa clara District Attorney says the perpetrators of Sexual Assault cases in Juvenile Court receive sentences that are too short and the punishments are toilinet cent. We know two too lenient. Two of the boys involved are still students here and they were sentenced to 30 days in Juvenile Hall and a lot of that was done on the weekend. Audrey pots mother is saying thats like serving saturday detention. The new law would make the punishments stiffer. Three bodies admitted to taking half naked pictures and Sexual Assaulting audrey pots in 2012 at a drunken house party when she was passed out. The photos were shared via text. That week pots sent out a facebook message. My life is ruined. Im in hell. My life is over. She committed suicide one week later. Students who worked for the School Newspaper here did investigating and found that at least 10 people saw the photographs. The law would make it easier to charge in adult penalty and would make Cyber Bullying a crime when photos or electronic messages are used to embarrass harass or intimidate others. The law would require a 2 3 vote to pass. Legal analysts say it has a chance. State senator jim bell. Two teenage boys are being investigated in connection with with last months water bottle attacks. They threw Water Bottles from a pickup truck and as many as 10 vehicles and two school buses. This happened in and around santa rosa and injured several people. They identified the boys by finding the owner of the pickup truck. Neither suspect is cooperating. It is 7 08. A group of Senate Democrats in sacramento calls for strict new rules to make it illegal for state lawmakers to except free tickets to concerts and sports events. Some of the free tickets reported by state lawmakers last year include a performance by a hip hop dance crew at a las vegas casino, disney land and a mixed martial arts fighting event. The senators sponsoring the rule say they are trying to regain the publics trust. The state lawmakers who accepted the most free guests, east bay assemblyman, rob bonta. Phil tang, 14900 dollars. And luis. Now to the drought here in california, the Alameda CountyWater District considering enforcing one of the toughest water restrictions in the bay area. The argus is reporting the board may declare an Emergency Water shortage next thursday. Registrations would include limiting irrigation and also banning homes and businesses from watering lawns on consecutive days. Punishment for violations may include fines, maybe even jail time. But that would be in the most extreme cases. Water district Officials Say they doubt if that would ever happen. 7 10. Uc berkeley says its having trouble to admit enough minorities to reflect the diversity of the community. Cal officials blame proposition 209, the 1996, voter approved ban on affirmative action for their struggles. Uc Officials Say the percentage of latino and africanamerican californians being admitted has plummeted from 46 before prop 209 to just 12 right now. They also say top minority candidates are getting generous scholarship offers from private schools and choosing to go there instead. Uc berkeley officials recently filed a brief in connection with to a u. S. Supreme Court Case Involving minority admissions at the university of michigan. Time is 7 11. A grand jury has indicted Marvin Norwood and Louie Sanchez for possession of firearms, those weapons include style rifles. These new charges could add to the prez time. Last month, norwood and sanchez pled guilty to the attack at Dodger Stadium that almost killed stow nearly 3 years ago. The case of a 16yearold boy accused of setting another teenager on fire on an ac transit bus is headed to trial. Prosecutors say Richard Thomas set 18yearold sasha fleischmans skirt on fire last november. The incident was caught on bus Surveillance Video, and thomas Attorney Says that footage may play a key role in his defense. The city of San Francisco is getting close to creating a new source of Affordable Housing in one part of the city. The Planning Commission approved legislation to build in law units. A canadian couple experienced the dangers of distracted driving firsthand after a bad accident was caught on their dash cam. This driver mounted this camera inside his car to catch anyone who may be trying to break into his vehicle, but little did he know it would capture an accident, boom, right there that sent him and his wife to the hospital. You can see the couple driving on the road, but all of a sudden a truck pulls out, and they hit. Now, you look closely here. You can see the video shows that other driver on his cell phone. He was charged with failing to yield to traffic, and he admitted it was his fault. She said that right away, its totally my fault, but the camera proves it. Just have to be really careful. When you get to San Francisco, you will see slow traffic coming up to the bay bridge toll plaza. As a matter of fact, this delay is a 25 minute drive time from oakland to San Francisco. Not too bad. We had times that were almost double that. Right now its not that way. We talked about 80. Im going to push down to the south bay here, and we can look at san jose.
