Theres slow traffic getting down to the sunol grade and then you will see traffic here on 880 southbound approaching highway 92 slow because of a minor crash right before the 92 interchange. But this little stretch here is not all that bad. San mateo bridge and dumbarton bridge are doing well, especially the dumbarton bridge. San jose, santa clara valley, northbound 101 traffic. The slowest is from capitol expressway up to 880. Then its pretty good after that. Finally, as we go to the bay bridge, this is a 20minute drive time from the oakland side to the San Francisco exit. In three hours from now, right here in the bay area, he will announce a new push for Renewable Energy. President obama has made the issue of Climate Change a priority in his administration. Happening now, preparations are underway for the president s speech in a few hours where he will announce a new push for solar energy and other Renewable Energy sources. Tara moriarty is live at the Fairmont Hotel where the president is waking up. The president is expected to make a big revelation about something going on at the white house. Reporter thats right. A big security sweep was just done on this street. You can see some of these officers are getting their instructions for the morning and a dog actually just came through and was checking out some of the parked cars here. The president is expected to reveal that the white house has gone solar and officials wont say how much the panels cost, only the project will pay itself off in eight years. Last summer, crews hit several snags related to retrofitting. The panels were first installed during the jimmy carter administration. But president reagan took them down in 1986. This is part of a coalition of solar businesses and environmental groups that petitioned the Obama Administration to bring solar power back. For all of the work were doing on Climate Change and making sure that we bequeath to our children, the grandchildren, the kind of planet that allows them to thrive and prosper, for all of those efforts, we know that weve got more work to do. Reporter solar panel reveal comes at the end of his fund raising blitz in Silicon Valley. The president is making his announcement at walmart because its one of several companies thats agreed to boost its use of solar power. There are expected to be protesters at walmart rallying for minimum wage. Well be talking to those workers in about an hour. The president s bay area trip is drawing both supporters and protest, now, supporters lined the streets of los altos yesterday, hoping to catch a glimpse of the president. Some parents brought their kids along to witness what they say is history. I think hes a brave, courageous man who has a difficult job. Hes our oifrt africanamerican president. I love i love his wife. The Political Economic system that we have in place right now is a major machine. It will take a lot to change its direction. It needs to change now. Several dozen protesters demonstrated outside the president s fundraiser last night at the san jose Fairmont Hotel. They want president obama to reject the Keystone Pipeline which would carry crude oil from canada to the u. S. Gulf coast. This is president obamas 17th visit to california since he became president. As hes done in the past, hes generating a lot of money during this trip. He held two fundraisers yesterday. In the first, he met with Silicon Valley executives in los altos. Some paid more than 32,000 to be at the meeting. The Fairmont Hotel event, the cost to get in 1,000, 2,000. Well be streaming his entire speech. Its scheduled to worst at 9 5 to start at 9 55. When firefighters arrived, the roof was fully engulfed. The homeowner was burning wood in the fireplace when the roof caught on fire. Luckily no one was hurt. A new warning about whooping cough for parents in contra costa county. Weve told you about confirmed cases among students at morello park Elementary School. Now the School District is sending out a new letter today telling parents about more cases at that campus. We dont know how many. Whooping cough starts with cold like symptoms and then uncontrollable coughing. Students are urged to be tested if their cough continues for a week. A father in fremont is furious after he claims a teacher slapped his son. In just a couple of hours from right now, that teacher is due to return to class. Ktvus alex savidge joining us live now with more on what the father plans to do this morning, alex, to protest the teacher coming back. Reporter well, dave, good morning to you. And after a weeklong suspension, the district has cleared this teacher and cleared him to return to class later today at Patterson Elementary School in fremont. But there will be one man who is protesting that decision later on. That would be the father of 9 yearold Julian Rivera. And we spoke with him yesterday about what happened. He says what happened to his son was unacceptable. The boy was left in tears after he got a question wrong on a math test. He says his teacher, fred berg, grabbed his face and slapped him twice. This all happened last monday, april 28th. A Police Report was filed. The School District also conducted its own investigation although those findings have not been released. Julians father said his son was traumatized by what happened. My son just loves school. Hes terrified to go back to school. If mr. Berg goes back to school, what happens to my son . He has so much of a promising feature now. He might not ever want to go back to school again. Reporter now, according to julians father, the teacher admitted to putting his hands the boy but says he didnt slap him. It was more like a pat on the face. District administrators say they feel comfortable with berg returning to the classroom and the district says berg has apologized for his actions. Still, according to one report, julians family is planning to file a legal claim next week. That that would be the precursor to a lawsuit. Julians father is planning to protest this decision to have the teacher return here to the classroom later today. California law does not allow teachers to physically discipline students. But laws in more than a dozen states do allow corporal punishment. To rent a flat bed car trailer and then never returned it. Police gave us this picture of the vehicle. Police say he may have also taken rentals in oakland and southern california. The Real Estate Market in much of the bay area may be red hot but a new report says three east bay cities are not included in that trend. Uc berkeleys hoss institute singled out vallejo, antioch and richmond. The report says those cities are among the top 100 cities nationwide with homes under water. Meaning owners owe more than their home is worth. The study says one factor was the large minority pop lactses of those pochlations of those cities populations of those cities. The study calls for more federal action to help the cities to help refinance those mortgages to get to a more manageable amount of money. A lot of our transit systems very dependent on federal funding. If we lose this money look for a longer, slower commute to work. A reminder, starting this weekend if you drive in San Francisco and you usually take that last exit before the golden gate bridge, pay real close attention. On sunday, the northbound highway 101 exit is being moved. Now, its just temporary. Its part of the doyle drive retrofit program. Look at this animation here. You can see drivers going northbound on highway 101, youll encounter the exit 1,000 feet sooner than you are used to. If you miss the exit, you will be forced to go across the bridge and then pay the 7 toll to get back to San Francisco. This temporary alignment will last for about a month. But we told you. We did. Taking a look at the south bay, northbound 101 getting a little bit rough here as you drive out of the south valley coming up to the airport. I would use 85. Doesnt look that bad into saratoga and 280 is looking good. 280 you might be caught in traffic. If you are in the south valley, i think 85 is your way to get into the valley without too much hassle. 7 18. Lets go to steve. A very good morning. Mostly cloudy skies.
