This will be working closer to the coast over the course of the weekend, and that will continue our cooldown in addition to deepening the marine layer and really bringing back the onshore breeze. An 8yearold girl is in Critical Condition after getting shot while playing in her front yard. This Morning Police are searching for the two gunmen. Allie rasmus live for us outside Childrens Hospital in oakland with details. Reporter we checked with Oakland Police to get an update on the girls condition, and they tell us as far as they know shes still in Critical Condition here at oakland Childrens Hospital. This 8yearold girl was playing with her younger brother yesterday evening in front of their home in the area of 66th 66th avenue and floor street in oakland, around 6 30 two men pulled up in a vehicle, jumped out of a car and started shooting. The bullets stuck two people on the block. One struck a man in his 40s and 50s in the hip and a few homes away another bullet struck the 8yearold girl in the neck. There was at least one vehicle driving southbound in the 1800 block of 66th avenue, at least two individuals exited the vehicle and fired multiple rounds striking our victims. Its horrible. Its very troubling to hear that another young child has been hurt due to gunfire in oakland. Its really upsetting. Police are calling this a driveby shooting, and they dont know who the gunmen were targeting, but they believe the young girl was an innocent bystander. Police dont have a good description of the gunmen. They were driving a light colored sedan. Investigators mentioned last night that one of the challenges they face is that theyre dealing with a limited number of witnesses. They need more information from the public to find these two gunmen and encourage anyone who may have seen anything to give them a call. The man who was shot in his 40s and 50s he is expected to recover from his injuries, but the 8yearold girl who was struck by a bullet in the neck, she is still in Critical Condition here at oakland Childrens Hospital this morning. Live in oakland, allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. An investigation is underway into a pair of shootings in hayward this morning. They occurred less than 4 miles from each other. The fir shooting happened just before 1 ram. A gunman fired and injured two people. The victims were able to run to safety. At 3 30 one person was shot at south garden avenue. Police have not commented about the two cases or whether they are linked. Both happened near interstate 880. Now to our continuing coverage of those wildfires in San Diego County. Firefighters say they are making progress thanks to improved weather conditions. This weekends forecast is calling for cooler temperatures and light winds. Eleven fires this week have burned more than 31 square miles. They have destroyed a few dozen homes and businesses. 176,000 evacuation notices were issued. This stuff can be replaced but you go through the initial trauma, the initial shock of seeing this loss, and tough stuff. A 57yearold man has been charged with starting one of the fires. Alberto serrato pleaded not guilty yesterday in connection with the 105acre fire in the ocean side area. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. A couple of thousand firefighters are still on the front lines this morning. Some of those crews are from the bay area. They include firefighters from livermore, pleasanton, fremont, hayward and oakland. Teams from monterey to the oregon border have been on stand by. A brush fire burning a remote area southwest of morgan hill is 90 contained. That fire started yesterday afternoon in the southern Santa Cruz Mountains near you ridge and summit roads. Crews will remain on the scene today making sure that fire does not flare back up. Theres been several fires that have gotten very large. With the appropriate response, well keep it to 2 acres. The cause of that fire has not yet been determined. In september of 2002, the croix burned for days near morgan hill. It destroyed 34 homes. At that time it was the Third Largest fire in Santa Clara County. The fire started accidentally in a storage trailer. Last night in modesto a fire destroyed five homes and damaged three others. Fire crews blame the heavy loss on strong winds. 20 Miles Per Hour winds caused the vegetation fire to spread to nearby townhouses. Firefighters say those homes were closely clustered together and when one home caught fire, the whole block was in danger. All i seen was like flames blazing down, and i just told my mom i was like get out of the house. One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Investigators say its too early to know what started the blaze. Firefighters stayed on scene to make sure that fire did not flareup. The family of a track worker hit and killed by a b. A. R. T. Train is suing the transit agency. The daughters of 66yearold Lawrence Daniels accused b. A. R. T. Of negligence. Daniels and 58yearold christopher shepherd were killed while inspecting a dip in the tracks near the walnut creek train station last october. The lawsuit claims they were hit by an inexperienced train operator who was practicing at the time due to the b. A. R. T. Strike. B. A. R. T. Has not commented yet about the lawsuit. A walk is planned in San Francisco for a missing man, 19 yearold shawn city has been missing since may 21st of last year. His family says he met a former teacher at the French American International school. He then placed a call to his father from Golden Gate Park and has not been heard from since. He had been recovering from a traumatic brain injury. The walk will start in front of the French American International school at 12 30 this afternoon. The Walnut Creek Police department is sending out a warning about a coordinated Training Exercise today. Officers are scheduled to hold that Training Session at Walnut Creek Intermediate School on walnut boulevard. People in the area are being advised they may hear simulated gunfire screaming and others noises. That exercise is expected to end by 5 tonight. Law enforcement in richmond plan to crack down on drunk drivers tonight. Dui check points will be set up at undisclosed positions from 7 00 tonight until 2 in the morning. The cal fire battalion chief accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death, the hunt came to an end yesterday when a detective spotted him getting on a bus in South Sacramento county. The Fire Department says the smoke alarms never went off, and they are still investigating why. The victims family has hired an attorney to perform their own investigation as well. A west Contra Costa Transit Authority bus driver is being credited for stepping in between some teenagers and a pit bull. It happened on wednesday as craig willis was driving past the pinole public library. This bus Surveillance Video shows the dog charging back and forth. He says he saw the pit bull growling at some teenagers and knew he had to do something. He got out of the bus and stepped between the dogs and the teens so they could safely get into the library. What i did was something i hope anybody would do for my kids. Its not its not heroic. Its somebody carrying. County animal control is conducting an investigation. They say this is the second time in two months the dog has charged someone. A 22yearold woman was seriously injured at bostons fenway park after she fell two floors down an elevator shaft. It happened last night as the red sox played the tigers. Authority says the shaft forced floor doors open unexpectedly and the women fell to the second level landing on top of the elevator car. Rescuers reached the woman through a hat in the elevators roof. State elevator inspectors are now looking into why those doors opened. Beautiful saturday morning out there. Gay rights supporters are celebrating in idaho after a federal judge ruled that idahos gay marriage ban is unconstitutional. The decision came tuesday when judge candy bail said the marriage law violates couples rights under the due process and equal protection clauses of the 4th amendment. The rule was was put on hold.
