Tonight, the new home of the 49ers hosts its first sports event. Mornings on 2 begins right now. Good morning. Were live in the Livermore Valley with the mess you are looking at. Theres the big rig, still on its side. Traffic has been at a crawl after that big rig crash. You can see some traffic moving by. But a lane closure on a friday morning, not a good sign. At one point, this was blocking lanes on both sides of 580. Ktvus katie utehs has been on the scene all morning and coming up in minute, shes gonna tell us how much longer it should take crews to clear the wreckage. Good morning. Welcome to mornings on 2. Im Claudine Wong, Tori Campbell has the day off. Im dave clark. Lets talk about your weather on a friday. Steves right over there. I am, indeed. Some fog there. Yesterday, there was a bigger fog bank and a delta breeze. Thats not the case. Theres high clouds. By this afternoon, it will be sunny to mostly sunny. Fog or fair. Cool for some. Low 50s. Others are in the mid to upper 60s. It wont take lightning to get to 70. It will be hot inland. Definitely hot inland. Some areas in the upper 60s. Mid60s. We talked about that. But santa rosa, 52. Napa airport, down to 51. Novato as well. 15, thats it for travis. After that, almost everyone else is about 5, 6 miles per hour. Yesterday, we had a much stronger delta breeze. The higher clouds will thin off. The fog is not going anywhere and the temperatures will zip up. Stockton hot. Inland 100s for many. Heres sal. All right. We do have the truck crash, i want to mention the backup here. Weve been following it all morning long. We have a reporter on the scene. But our newschopper2 has been following the 580 backup into tracy. Its little long. Were taking a long time this morning to get through the backup and driving over to dublin. Its taken more than an hour. Thats because a lot of the traffic is taking a look at the crash. Katie utehs will have a look at what happened and what they are doing to clear the truck. The trailer part is on 580. Well have a live report from the scene. This is the bay bridge toll plaza. Its backed up for about a 25 to 30minute delay. There are no major problems but its kind of slow for a friday, especially, trying to get into San Francisco. In san jose, northbound 101 at tully, we had an earlier accident t wasnt a manger one but it caused accident. It wasnt a major one. We want to update the developing traffic news that we first reported at 4 30. The overturned big rig is still causing delays on 580 in livermore. Katie utehs is there on the scene and shes gonna tell us what happened. Katie . Reporter well, sal, that collision happened in the westbound lanes. Were standing in the eastbound lanes where the aftermath is still causing a problem. You can see only two lanes opened eastbound at 580 and vasco road. As my photographer moves over, you can see this is still the semitruck trailer. Im told that that is a container full. They are trying to right it. It spilled and crews to have try to flip it upright before they can tow it off the instate to the next exit. So the chp is having to shut down these eastbound lanes to get this truck off the roadway. Let me show you some video from when we first arrived. The crash happened aferped around around 4 15. You can see the semitruck in the westbound lanes of i580. Im told the semi may have swerved to miss a pickup truck that was possibly stalled along the road. Chp is still investigating. They are not sure if the issue with the semitruck came first or the issue with the pickup truck. The driver of the pickup truck was transported with minor injuries, complaints of minor injuries, but is expected to be okay. The driver of the semitruck is okay. I spoke with him briefly. He was quite shaken up but didnt want to talk on camera. If we take a live look, newschopper2 is overhead. You can see all lanes of westbound 580 are open. But it is still quite a mess. The damage was done early in the commute and the truck portion is still along the shoulder, along the median of the highway. So people slowing down to look at the wreckage causing delays and then, of course, people driving in the eastbound direction where the lanes are just closed down to two and may be closed off and on as they try to spin this tractor trailer around and get it off the interstate. Im told by chp that we could expect this to be on the roadway for another hour or so. We will be here live throughout the morning on mornings on 2 letting you know the latest on the traffic conditions. Live here in livermore, katie utehs, ktvu channel 2 news. Thank you. Caltrans is responding to a new report thats highly critical of the construction of the new bay bridge. The panel of engineers found the new eastern span suffers from a lack of Quality Control. That calls into question the bridges longterm endurance. The experts point to the many problems uncovered on the bridge in the past year, including bad bolts and rods. Caltrans calls the report flawed, misleading, incomplete and inaccurate. There is a larger engineering consensus that was reached on specific issues like the quality of the welds during the fabrication process. That side of the story isnt necessarily told in this document. The report is just the latest criticism of a troubled project. The new bridge was scheduled ten years behind schedule and 5 billion over budget. Happening today, a major cleanup in Santa Cruz Harbor after one of the worst anchovy dieoffs in the 1980s.
