fire killed an elderly man and injured two others. We have more on how neighbors tried to step in and rescue the man. Reporter we talked to one of the neighbors that tried to rescue this elderly man from the burning home. He had

burns. This is the home where the fire started. For the first time this morning, fire investigators are inside what used to be the living room, that burnt up shell that used to be the living room. Theyre trying to figure out how the fire started. It was 3 00 this morning when several neighbors woke up to hear a woman screaming for help. The woman, her elderly father and brother had been in the home in hayward. Flames shot out the front door and the windows. The father and brother westbound trapped inside. The nextdoor neighbor and his son rushed into the burning home to try and help them. They were especial to help the brother escape. When they went back in to help the elderly man, they said the flames were just too intense. We went inside again and tried to pull him out but there was something blocking the door. Reporter the neighbor suffered serious burns,

burns on his hands. His son ended up having to go to the hospital for smoke inhalation. A third neighbor tried to go in and help. He was also not able to. As for the elderly man who died in this fire, neighbors say he is in his 80s. He lived in this home with his daughter and son for decades. One neighbor told us three generations of the family have grown up knowing this elderly man killed in this fire. He was very loved by his neighbors, a part of this community and known affectionately by a lot of the neighbors here simply as papa. President obama will attend another

San jose police are searching for whoever burglarized a home and severely injured a family dog. It happened just after 11 00 yesterday morning on culpeper drive. Police say the homeowner had been out but then found the injured dog in the home when he returned. The dog is being treated. The two suspects are described as in their late teens or 20s. Boat were wearing baseball caps and hooded jackets. Police say a bank robber may have hit two banks in

s chinatown just ten minutes apart. Police say a man believed to be in his 50s entered a bank on washington street at 1 30 thursday afternoon. He handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller complied and the robber left. Nine minutes later two blocks away a man matching the same description walked into another bank, handed that teller a note and also made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police also searching for a bank robber releasing this photo of suspect. On thursday he robbed a u. S. Bank branch located inside the

on south mcdowell boulevard. Surveillance footage shows him walking up to the counter at about 4 00 p. M. He then demanded money from the clerk and said he had a gun although no weapon was ever seen. . Some postal equipment damaged more than 80 boxes of envelopes as they were being processed. The department of elections says the new ballots should reach voters within a week so they can vote by mail for the november 4 general election. But all lanes of interstate 80 in the apple gate area are back open to traffic after they were shut down earlier in the week because of the fire. Calfire has cleared its tankers to get back in the air following a deadly crash in use sell tip. All 22 of calfires tankers returned to service yesterday. Two rushed into the home as flames were coming out of the front door and the windows. Right now, you can see whats left of the living room, whats left of the house. Fire investigators are still inside. They are trying to look for clues to figure out how this fire started. Now, we do know when it started. It was around 3 00 this morning when neighbors woke up to hear a woman screaming from help. The next door neighbor and his son rushed to their aid. They actually went into the house to try to help rescue the man. They were able to help the brother escape. When they went back in to help the elderly man, they say the flames were too intense. We get inside, we try to pull him out. Impossible, there was stuff blocking the door. Right now, feeling kind of sad. The old man was my friend. Sometimes we spend time talking and laughing. Reporter the neighbor suffered serious burns on his hand. As for the elderly man, he is in his 80s. Has lived in this home with his daughter and son for decades. Three generations of her family has known him, he was loved by neighbors and known affectionately to everybody on the street as papa. Fire investigators dont know how this fire started.
