The drive between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze. That drive time has doubled from earlier. 37 minutes. And as you drive to the macarthur maze you are going to see slow traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza. We had an earlier stalled truck on the upper deck of the bay bridge. Its been gone for an hour but traffic is slow partially because of that. A lot of people showing up to the bay bridge. Candlestick an accident. Traffic is backed up unexpectedly out of south city. If you are driving into the city think about using 280, which actually looks decent through daly city. That would be a decent alternate route for you. We are getting more details this morning after a deadly fire in san jose. Ktvus janine de la vega is outside the home where a body was found and is now talking to neighbors about what happened. Janine u just got a hold of some new cell phone video . Reporter yes. And it is dramatic. You can hear people. They were screaming because they knew that there was a man trapped in there and they were trying to save him before the firefighters arrived. We spoke to them and they tell us that they ran up here to the back of this home where you can see all of this damage. They could hear his cries for help. The fire was too intense. They couldnt get to him. Again you can see this aftermath of whats left of this home. Now lets go to some video that we have. Fire officials tell us they received this 911 call before 7 30 last night about the fire at this home near story and mclaughlin avenue. Before they arrived neighbors were spraying down the house trying to save it. When firefighters arrived a man told them he was in a garage when he smelled smoke. Somebody else was left in one of the back bedrooms. Firefighters did a search while knocking down the fire and then made the discovery. Heres how a neighbor described everything. We are in our garage and heard a bunch of commotion. We came out and saw the a house on fire. We tried to save the guy that was there but it was too late. He was screaming. We couldnt help him. It was too late. Reporter once the mans body was found police helped block off the neighborhood so an arson investigator could look into the cause. We are waiting to hear about that and what was the result of that investigation. We did ask the Coroners Office if it appeared the man died from the fire and they said yes. Thats what it appears, even though an autopsy hasnt been done. But there didnt seem to be anything suspicion about the extend of his injuries. Neighbors tell us the man who owns this home is a retired police officer. So its really unclear if he was home at the time. The neighbors mentioned he rented some of the rooms in the back of the home. So they think that the deceased may be a renter. We do not know at this point because the Coroners Office has not released that mans identity. We are working to get that cell phone video for you within the next hour. Thank you, gentleman. In San Francisco repair work starting today after a car crash ripped a fire hydrant from its foundation. Thousands of gallons of water gushed out of the gaping hole at gary boulevard and 11th avenue. You are in San Francisco to show us how officers can get stuck in gridlock during an emergency. Reporter the Public Safety building is here in the middle of the bustling Mission Bay Neighborhood and traffic tends to back up in front of the building on third street. That is especially true on game days at nearby at t park just a few blocks away. Let me show you the scene following yesterday afternoons giants games. With cars at a stand still towards king street, in the middle of that backup we saw a number of San Francisco Police Officers trying to leave the new he headquarters and the southern station here. Now, the problem is that officers, if they pull out of the falcon facilitys underground garage, can only make a right turn sending them streit into gridlock. We saw some cars waiting in the turn lane and turning around and looking for another way out of the mta admits the traffic situation certainly presents a challenge for police. A Department Spokesman tells ktvu it wont interfere with officers responding to emergencies. Our officers are constantly going out on patrol, going from one call to another call. For the most partner not going to be inside the station. Reporter on top of that, officers schedules are staggered to avoid long lines of Police Cruisers wait to go leave the station. Wait to go leave the station. Changing this intersection wont be as easy as simply restriping the lanes. There is a concrete barrier in the middle of the road that separates the traffic lanes from the muni tracks. And as i bring you back out here live this morning, this is the new building. It has been in use for a number of days already but the official grand opening celebration, the ribbon cutting, if you will, dave, will happen later on this morning at 11 00. All right. The owners of a San Francisco store filled with vintage jewelry and furniture are counting on modern surveillance cameras to catch the thieves in the latest smashandgrab burglar. Now, this store sells furniture, jewelry, and collectibles. The four thieves ran in there, grabbed what they could in about four minutes. The stores owner says he lost as much as 5,000 in jewelry alone. Just trying to keep up my mess and start all over. We will have to look at if there are copycats. Are they all related to a larger organizational crime spree . So far no arrests have been made. However, this Surveillance Video does show some of the faces of the burglers. If you want to get a closer look at this Surveillance Video we have it on our website ktvu. Com. Look at it under featured stories. It is 7 10. An alaska Water Company says it has a way to ease californias drought. According to the Alaska Dispatch news, alaska bulk water pranc to begin exporting plans to exporting water to customers in california this summer. The details on how the water will get here, who will buy it, and how much they will pay are not known. The company has the rights to export as much as nine billion gallons of water a year from blue lake. Sounds like a lot. But to put that in perspective, the usgs says california uses approximately 38 billion gallons of water a day. Meanwhile, California Assembly republicans plan to announce legislation this morning to improve the states water storage system. We will get details at a press conference set for 10 30 this morning in sacramento. More coming up at ktvu fox 2news at noon. First the drought decimated the ski season in tahoe. The summer boating season typically opens may 1st. But with the Sierra Snowpack at the lowest level in a century a parks official says that wont happen this year. And i was in yosemite this past weekend and we drove past don pedro lake. It was so low my husband said they need to rename it don pedro puddle. You can see layer after layer where the water should be. It is so low. There is hardly any water left in it. Really sad. We want to check in with sal to see how the thursday morning commute is going. A few trouble spots out there, sal . Yeah, one, tori, dave. We are going out to it. Had is 101 in San Francisco coming in from south city and thats because of an earlier crash near candlestick exit. Most of the slow traffic is northbound on 101. The best thing you can do, i think, is to come through daly city and go into francisco doing that. Southbound 101 traffic is going to be busy. The crash is gone. It was there for long enough that the traffic is still going to take a while to recover. Again 280 is better than 101 at this point. San mateo bridge not bad. 880 oakland and hayward a little bit of slow traffic heading south towards fremont. We also had traffic on the sin ole grade as well. The toll plaza of the bay bridge. We had an earlier truck stall on the span. Thats gone. Traffic is backed up for 30minute delay. In san jose northbound 280 up to highway 217 880 that is backed up. The south bay beginning to fill in a little bit. Not any major problems on the roads. 7 16. Lets go to mark tamayo. A change in the wind direction will change your day. Off to a mild starts across parts of the bay area. This afternoon back up to the 70s and lowtomid 80s later today. With the warming pattern we have an increase in the fire danger especially in Southern California where they have that fire warning in place. San franciscos current temperature right now, it is 62 degrees in San Francisco. Mild here. San jose 50. Fairfield checking in at 60 degrees. As far as the wind speeds, the wind has kind of picked up the past hour in fairfield out of the north gusting to 22 Miles Per Hour. Some more wind reports for you not adds strong. Calm winds towards sfo, hayward, san jose. Towards mount diablo, 40 Miles Per Hour. Here is our microclimate forecast for today. If you are going to be at the coast be careful because we will with building surf throughout the day and increase in the rip currents. Look at the temperature sensor. It is warming back up across the bay and eventually on track to reach the 80s. Lots of 80s expected across the area. The warmest locations could be around 83, 84, possibly 85 degrees by 3 00. All because of this guy. This area of High Pressure building over head. The sinking air is warming air and sticks around for today. Tomorrow the only change we are going to have more of an on shore breeze kick in. The coast will shave off a few degrees in the friday forecast. It will be warm this evening at the ballpark at at t. Mostly clear skies with the diamondbacks in town now with the temperatures mainly in the upper 60s. First pitch just after 7 15. Forecast highs this afternoon. Look at the 80s out there for santa rosa and fairfield. Walnut creek 82. San leandro in the upper 70s. San jose lower 80s. San francisco upper 70s. 77. Your fiveday forecast. Tomorrow we are going to keep things warm. Minor cooling coast side and that minor cooling will continue into the weekend. But overall a nice weekend forecast. And we are Still Holding on to the possibility of showers next week. We will keep an eye on that for wednesday or thursday. Fingers crossed. It felt kind of a warm, tropical breeze this morning. I have been hearing about that. I should take a walk around the building outside. All right. Thank you. Mark. It is 7 19. A mailman from florida who made a really unexpected delivery in washington, d. C. Is in a whole lot of trouble after flying his gyrocopter on the grounds of the u. S. Capitol. Fox news corner doug la zater outside the capitol. Reporter if you need. Reporter this place was loaded with tourists. This gyrocopter zoomed around the Washington Monument down the length. National mall here. It got to this point. You see where the tourists are there taking pictures, the statue of grant. This passed over the statue and got to the end of the mall. Thats where the u. S. Capitol is. If we zoom in you see there is a Little Orange traffic cone there marking the spot where this gyrocopter sat down. You can hear the stunned tourists as that tiny helicopter, a gyrocopter, flew right over their heads on to the west lawn of the capitol. I said, oh my goodness, they are using drones with men to bring the mail. Thats how google is going to deliver the mail. Reporter doug hughes from florida was quickly surrounded by u. S. Capitol police. If all of this looked like it caught capitol security off guard, maybe it shouldnt have. Hughes was pretty open about his plans. I am going to land on the capitol mall in front of the capitol building. Reporter that was hughes talking to the Tampa Bay Times in advance of his flight and telling them that as a postal worker he intended to fly to washington to deliver letters to all 535 members of congress depannedding Campaign Finance reform. He called at noon as he was on the runway about to take rough. Reporter in fact, the a Tampa Bay Times reporter was outside the capitol to watch it happen and he says hughes wasnt exactly under the radar, so to speak. He wanted the alameda to know. He wanted the authorities to know. He was live broadcasting this. The bomb squad determined that it was no longer a threat. Why werent authorities prepared for this . The secret service did speak to hughes back in 2013, but that appears to be it. He may face federal charges now for airspace violations at the very least. But the authorities here will face perhaps a larger question. Why this seemed to catch nearly everyone unaware. There are going to be some familiar questions here that we always hear in the wake of incidents like this. Federal agencies communicating well enough with one another to talk about existing threats that one agency knew about and maybe another one didnt . As for mr. Hughes, he is going to face a whole slew of charges, no doubt. Its against the rules here to fly a kite on capitol hill much less land an aircraft. Yeah, i am sure he will be facing serious challenges. Thank you, doug. It is 7 22. We are official on on round two of royal baby watch. St. Marys hospital in london is prepared for the large crowds expected to welcome the next prince or princess. Parking has been suspended in front of the hospital for the next two weeks. The palace is telling media crews they cannot camp out near the hospital. Last year Prince William and Kate Middleton announced they were expecting their second child. Prince william is second in line for the thrown making his Children Future heirs. Prince george, i am sure, very excited. Unfamiliar
