A look at the top stories we are following for you this morning, a Denver Broncos player who grew up in oakland has been sent back to colorado, by the team after police questioned him about a prostitution sting in san jose. Ryan murphy is a rookie safety on the broncos practice squad. A source tells us here at ktvu news that a prostitute went to the motel six in san jose, and told undercover officers that she needed to get something from her car. Police found murphy and his brother waiting in that car. And while murphys brother was cited for solicitation, murphy was questioned but not cited or arrested. Canted Clare University plans to hold a News Conference today to discuss the two cases now of meningitis, and the steps being taken to keep other students healthy. Health officials confirm the second case of the meningitis yesterday, the First Student became sick on sunday, and the university is offering free vaccinations at the school, tomorrow, and friday. And a homeless man is behind bars this morning, after allegedly stabbing a chp officer. Now, police were responding to calls of a man walking on a highway onramp in San Francisco yesterday. Thats when they say 44year old noel corpus, stabbed the officer, the officer underwent surgery and is expected to recover. Corpus is facing charges including attempted murder. A silver alert has been issued for almeda and contra costa counties, for what Authorities Say is a vulnerable 76yearold woman. Chp says Marlene Haines was last seen yesterday afternoon at her livermore home. And they say haines drove away in her beige 2010 20eu ta camry with this california license plate. Dp661nc. Haines is described as a white woman about blond hair. 55, 140 pounds. And they say she suffers from a medical condition that causes her to become disoriented. Now if you see someone that fits that description, or if you see the camry, please call livermore police. The chp is investigating a deadly accident that happened on interstate 880 last night. The twocar crash happened at about 8 30 near the 238 connector in san leandro. Officers say one driver died. The other had to be pulled out of his car and suffered major injuries. The southbound lanes were closed for over two hours. After the crash. And officers are now looking for witnesses, to help figure out what caused this crash. A bicyclist is in the hospital this morning, after she was hit by a suspected dui driver, and dragged by his car. This happened near fulton and bancroft in berkeley. At about 5 00 p. M. Yesterday. 47yearold Berwick Haines was arrested after the collision. Police say the woman was dragged under haines car for about 20 feet before she was pinned underneath. Berkeley police are now trying to reconstruct the accident scene. It is a little early to tell exactly where the bicycles and the vehicles were. But yes, there is no protected bike lane here, to share the roadway. Police say the 42yearold victim from berkeley was wearing a helmet, and she is listed in critical condition. Local and federal Law Enforcement agencies are teaming up this week to protect Public Transit for the super bowl. Reporter we are at west oakland bart station, as you mentioned. The gates just hoped about 20 minutes ago. First trains started coming into the station, we are seeing people make their way to the platform early this morning. Some of those bart riders may notice an increased security and Police Presence when they are at bart and other Public Transit agencies, between now and super bowl sunday. And the Transportation Security Administration is teaming up with local transit agencies, including bart, San Franciscos muni and santa claras vta to provide increased security on bay area Public Transit. Now, it is not only the it is not the only increased security measure people may notice ahead of the super bowl. Representatives from the fbi, department of homeland security, and even the u. S. Department of energy, are all in the area, because of the super bowl, and the u. S. Department of energys nuclear Security Administration is flying low altitude helicopters in the area for people who live in San Francisco, they have already noticed this, earlier this week. This is video of the departments helicopter doing the same thing, in the bay area, four years ago, back then and it was used to measure baseline radiation levels in the ground and this week, the helicopters are looking for radiation levels that could indicate a dirty bomb. Now, federal Officials Say there is no sign of any major or specific threats. All of this is done as a precaution. But in general, the security measures are being stepped up between now and super bowl sunday. And gun owners in San Francisco must now make sure their weapons are securely locked when left unattended in a car. There have been several cases in the bay area recently, when a local Police Officer or federal agent had their gun and badge stolen out of their car. The San Francisco board of supervisors unanimously approved a measure requiring that guns be stored in a lock box, or kept in the trunk of the car, that cannot be opened from inside the vehicle. And violators could face a 10,000 fine. And up to six months in jail. Well, the latest report card on California Water conservation is out, and the state missed governor browns mandate for a third month in a row. State water regulators say californians cut water use by just over 18 , in december. And you recall that the governor has called for a 25 reduction. That mandate was issued last june. The total amount saved since then is just above the 25 mark. The drought regulations were set to expire next week. And the state water board has extended it through october. After years of droughts, the monthly snowpack survey conducted yesterday in the sierra was very good. It shows water content is 130 of normal. The survey determines how much water the crucial snow pack will hold for use in the spring, summer and fall. That is running about 115, 116 statewide. Higher in the northern sierra. At around 120. But still above average for all areas. We like to hear that. Snow survey chief also says we still have two months left in the rainy season, and it has to keep raining and snowing consistently.
