Good morning, to you. Middletown was hit hard by this fire. An entire block the the one we are standing on was wiped out by the fire. Take a look at this home we are standing in front of. This son jefferson court. To give you a little perspective here about what you are seeing, take a look here at this shot here. That is the home were standing in front of. That is what it used to look like. And it gives you an idea of the devastation. Homes burned to the ground. At least 400 homes have burned. Two apartment complexes and at least ten businesses are gone this morning. On top of that there are as many as 1,000 structures that have burned. That will be barns, sheds, and peoples out buildings and the fire we just heard from a battalion chief is still on the move this morning. Threatening hundreds more homes still burning out of control with zero percent containment. Last night we did catch up with a strike team battling flames near the town of cob that is close to where the fire broke out on saturday morning. This fire really exploded in size. There already strong winds, extremely dry brush and the fire burned in several Different Directions and that made it difficult for crews to get a handle on it. I tell you, we did the best we could there. Once the fire got into town, we did the best we could but then the fire spread from structure to structure. Reporter the governor has declared a state of emergency in this area and that means we could see potentially California National guard members coming in here to help out soon. The other difficulty that cal fire faced yesterday and on saturday as well was there was so much smoke lingering in this area near the fire that they really were not able to get much of an air attack on the valley fire. And that allowed it to spread even more. We bring you back out here to a live picture. This is in middle town. This is just off of highway 29 and this is just one street wiped out by this fire. You can see the homes leveled in this area. The power remains out in this area. Pg e crews are working to get the power restored. With that being said, it may not be until tomorrow until people who live in middletown who will be able to return to this area and see if their homes are Still Standing. Yeah. All right alex savidge in middletown, thank you. Mandatory evacuations are in place for several communities in lake county. About a thousand people from lake county are now living at the knapp pal county fairgrounds which has basically turned into a temporary city. Some people are in tents, many others have their cars. And many who are there dont know if they will have a home to return to. The whole street has been wiped out. I havent seen for sure. That is just what i heard. The resort above us was burnt. The pool area below us was burnt. People that live near the fairgrounds are trying to help the calistoga athletic boosters open up their concession stand. They are preparing and serving food. Some people are bringing tenths for families to live in and toys and books for the children. Because of all the evacuations all the schools in lake county and kelsey view School Districts are closed today. Pope Valley Union Elementary is closed. Emergency crews from the bay area they are also helping to battle the valley fire. Heres some pictures from the Fire Departments twitter page. Strike team heading up to the fire lines saturday. A lot people left thanks. The ma if and as for thes have been hurt. For thes who helicoptered into the zone safer Second Degree burns. And heres a photo of one of the injured firefighters. As you can see, hes still in pretty good spirits in the burn unit of uc davis medical center. All four firefighters are reportedly in stable condition. Smoke from the napa fires the napa county and lake county are also a health hazard. The biggest problem are in the northern part of napa county actually. The smoke concentration could vary because of the weather, the winds, the distance from the fire. But i know we have seen it from all over the bay area. It can also irritate eyes, it can effect breathing especially with people with as ma and heart problems. If you do have some bad air quality you should stay inside as much your advice to i see it. It will be cooler and maybe not only clouds but some light rain. It is raining up in fort bragg. And a sign of things to come over the next couple of days. But we had trouble in the Livermore Valley. And now we have a remainder of an accident westbound 580 at 680 so you will see some slow traffic this morning as you get to the 680 interchange one of the lanes is blocked there. Good news for many bart riders use trains heading in the commute direction. Starting today the Transit Agency is implementing some changes that are supposed to improve service. Ktvu janine de la vega is joining us live to tell us more. Reporter there is a lot of changes to a lot of the routes but here is the bottom line. If you travel the commute direction toward San Francisco, more train cars have been added. If you go in the reverse commute direction you may have to wait a little longer. For example one of the lines that will benefit is the pittsburg bay point to sfo line. These trains will be lengthened to ten cars. They will also keep the trains running for an additional 125 minutes during weekday mornings to adominate riders. Riders traveling the dublin will immove that. So really your best bet is to check the bart schedule online because there are many more changes and especially if youre a reverse commuter because trains were taken away from symptom of those routes. Also make sure you Pay Attention to the signs on the trains because there is again some limited service for people who do the reverse commute. So check online. Police say the state trooper was shot and killed around 11 30 last night. It happened on a high speed chase on interstate 24. The suspect then abandoned his car and ran away. He is considered armed, could be traveling with other dangerous people. That state trooper who was killed has been on the police force less than a year. We have dramatic video to show you from japan.
