The road sensors are showing green for the southern after ha southern half of the bay area commute. At 5 01 back to the desk. Homeowners in pacifica are keeping a close eye on a crumbling cliff. Chunks of the coastline have been swept away and homes are threatened. Alex savidge is out there. And youre talking about what the city is now planning to do, alex. Reporter the city of pacifica declared a local state of emergency to get some federal aid and help from the state as well. There are several homes and apartment buildings in precarious spots this morning. Thats the cliffside and blow it the ground. Part of it is giving way. Drone video shows a number of structures teetering on the edge of the cliff in pacifica as the ground gives away. The coastal bluffs are eroding because of a combination of crashing waves done below and the soaking rainstorms weve seen. Most of the buildings were evacuated back in 2010 as heavy storms at this time washed away part of the cliff. The hillside remained intact until recent el nino storms moved in. And we talked just a short time ago with a homeowner in the area about what he thinks seeing some of the aerial video taken by the drone. Basically with the drone information that ktvu did the other day, actually, theres been no bluff loss in front of 310. In fact, pretty much everything is the same as it was back in 2010 with the exception of the corner here at 320 and 310. Reporter that homeowner is living in one of these apartments right on the cliffside and feels encouraged actually seeing the video. He feels like his place will be safe as far as the erosion goes. Workers are trying to preserve the cliffs, piling huge rocks on the beach below and covering part of the cliff face with concrete. Interesting to hear. We look at the video, all of us, and think it looks pretty bad. But a homeowner who lives in one of the apartments close to the edge and he felt good about what he saw. Wow, wow. You think what is going to happen to all of those buildings. And you cant let it wash right into the ocean. Reporter he says he lives right in this building behind us here which is next to some of the other apartment buildings evacuated in 2010 and remain abandoned still. He lives here and has not received word from the city that he or any of the folks in this building will have to leave soon. Good news for him if theyre safe. Thank you, alex. 5 05 is the. Also new this morning. Vallejo firefighters put out two simultaneous fires that started after 2 00 this morning. Firefighters tweeted out this picture. This is a fire in a garage on central avenue. And there was a fire reported in a shed on sonoma boulevard. No one was hurt in either of the fires. Most of the east coast is still digging out from the monster snowstorm over the weekend. More than 2 feet of snow fell in parts of new york. And there was 2 feet in central park in new york. Some government offices and schools are still closed this morning. 30 deaths are blamed on the weather. Cars are still buried and streets are blocked. I love it. The police have made an arrest and havent found the body of the missing man, janine. Reporter 28yearold kyle myick has been missing since friday. Police were called to the area where gp sports is located. Officers were told that myrick had been missing for several hours. They searched the area, and determined that he had been killed. They identified a person of interest. 39yearold steven hlebo and arrested him in los altos for murder. He owns a gmc truck similar to this one. Police recovered the truck and are asking for the publics help. Investigators want to know in nip knows where the truck was from friday night to 2 a. M. Saturday morning. Friends and relatives have been posting about the disappearance and theyve been conducting their own searches, including one over the weekend at lexington reservoir.
