KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 5am June 7, 2016

It does. I agree. We have a good westerly breeze for some and it is roaring for others out towards the delta. The fog out there, its cool this morning. Low clouds have made it to areas that did not have it for the last about four or five days, concord, livermore are two of those. So they are already cloudy at 4 00 a. M. And already gusts to 43 at travis, that tells me theres going to be pretty good little cooldown even for inland areas west at 10, west at 12, west at 15, an onshore breeze. 50s for many, low 60s palo alto. The low clouds and fog look like they are going to stick around for a while. Series of lows going to impact us with more of an onshore breeze and cooler pattern. The cooling continues for even inland areas. I know its a tall order sometimes up around clear lake, lake county out to vacaville but even locations to the east to north will start to cool down. 60s, 70s now for many. Sal, what do you have for us at 5 01 . Still quiet but that long drive in for some. We have a long drive in for a lot of people and it is going to be a little bit slow out there, steve. We can still look at some of these commutes here in tracy and you will see the traffic is still very slow as you drive on 205 and 580, just a lot of slow traffic. It does get better by the time you reach the main part of livermore which is actually doing very well right now from 580 livermore to dublin. Move along and take a look at a live picture of the bay bridge. You will see the traffic here has still not become really busy. Its light coming into San Francisco and in the south bay Silicon Valley commute, northbound 280, that traffic looks good so far all the way up to highway 17 and beyond into cupertino. Now lets. Go back to the desk. Primary election day is here in california. Now theres word that Hillary Clinton has locked up enough delegates to secure the democratic nomination for president. Ktvus Christien Kafton live at the Alameda County registrar of Voters Office in oakland. Reporter in the last 35 minutes Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released a statement saying she was endorsing Hillary Clinton but at this point the Clinton Campaign is not letting up on the gas yet. Bill clinton was in the bay area yesterday making the case for his wife and urging democrats to get out and vote. The candidate herself was campaigning in southern california. Last night the Associated Press declared that clinton had secured enough delegates to secure the nomination. She called for democrats to unite but with californias primary today said it was too early to start celebrating. According to the news we are in the we are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment. Reporter meanwhile, Bernie Sanders was rallying here in the bay area with a huge concert and Campaign Stop in San Francisco yesterday afternoon. Sanders says its too early to count him out. If we cant win here in california, win in south dakota, north dakota, montana, new mexico, do well in new jersey, we are going to go into that convention with enormous momentum. Reporter the question now is how will the news about the delegate count affect todays turnout. Of course that remains to be seen. Some are saying that they believe there is enough passion about this race and about these candidates to still have good voter turnout. We will keep on top of that and monitor it throughout the day and of course you can stay tuned here at ktvu. Check our social media and check ktvu. Com for all the latest Election Results throughout the day, guys. Its going to be a very busy day for all of us. Im sure you are on board with that as well. The Presumptive Republican nominee, donald trump, is seeming to backtrack on his controversial criticism of a federal judge who is hearing a Class Action Lawsuit against the defunct Trump University. Trump has accused u. S. District judge Gonzalo Curiel of being biased against trump because of his mexican heritage since trump wants to build a wall along the border with mexico. Trump has been denounced by democrats and republicans alike for those remarks. Judge curiel was born in indiana. His parents came to the u. S. From mexico in the 1940s. I dont care if the judge is mexican or not. Im going to do great with the mexican people because i provide jobs so i dont care about mexican. The sharks did cut the lead to one in the third period with a goal by melcrow carlson but then pittsburgh scored its third goal with two minutes left in the game. The sharks havent played with a lead in this entire series. First goal is big. Its just its not like they have had a lot more of opportunities than us. We havent found a way to get that first one in and then the game changes from there. Game five is thursday in pittsburgh. If the sharks win, the series comes back to san jose for game 6 on sunday. Well, a bay area city could be losing its most important piece of firefighting equipment just days before the 4th of july. Daly city looking for ways to close a 6 million budget gap and city leaders say taking fire engine 95 out of commission would take care of 1 3 of that. The fire station would still have a truck to answer paramedic calls but it cant pump water. So its of limited use in fighting fires. The nearest fire engine would then be 2 miles and several minutes away from responding to calls. Imagine a room that was burning and imagine a fire growing in size, essentially doubling every minute. Certainly a serious concern for us as a safety component for firefighters and for our community where we have primarily housing here. City officials could put a bond measure on the ballot next year that would raise money that could be used to bring back the fire engine but that wouldnt help in the short term. The city council is scheduled to vote later this month and the fire engine could become unavailable starting july 1st. Time is 5 15. And you will soon be able to gaze and take pictures again of the iconic painted ladies from alamo square park in San Francisco. As we have reported, the park is undergoing a 4. 3 million renovation but residents and supervisor london breed asked that the grassy area at least at hays and steiner streets reopen. Park officials decided to make that area available again starting on thursday saying that it will not delay the project. Crews are upgrading the parks irrigation system, rest rooms and landscaping. Right now 5 16. Lets check back in with sal for a look at traffic this morning. Sal. All right. , pam and i almost said alex but now its brian. Thank you. Brian and pam, good morning. The traffic is getting a little bit busier now that we are in the 5 00 hour and you will see that traffic is going to be okay still on the gilroy supercommute as you drive through getting up to the morgan hill area, continuing into the valley, yes, some people make that commute. Im sure if thats you, you say of course i make that commute. Its doing well at the moment. Moving along and taking a look at 880 north and southbound, it is not a bad commute here in both directions passing the coliseum. When you get to the bay bridge, we dont have a big backup yet. Usually at about 5 30 is when we turn those metering lights on. Thats just a few minutes away. We will see what happens then. At 5 17, lets go to steve. All right, sal. Thank you, sir. Well, we have a really deep fog bank and its made a push well inland along with a really strong breeze. I would be cautious if you drive over, say, some of the bridges, benicia bridge out towards fairfield, hold onto the Steering Wheel, theres gusts 32 to 43 Miles Per Hour so that will catch your attention and low clouds make it to concord and livermore at 4 00 and 5 00 in the morning, that tells me this time of year its going tock cooler. Its cloudy at 4 00 a. M. And 5 00 a. M. , so that low fog bank has made a pretty good impact here this morning. Better to see right there. There you can see it. When it makes it out that far, thats usually a sign that temperatures will continue to cool. Along with that breeze, which has been very strong, 28, 30, gusts to 43 west at concord, west at oakland, west napa airport at 15, westsouthwest novato, west at sfo. Peninsula temps held up by some of the cloud cover, 60 atherton. Los altos hills 53. Beaumont says 57 so cooler for some. Theres just a huge fog bank out there and its not going anywhere. Its getting helped along by another low which is moving in, giving us a little mist, drizzle as well. We will get a little warmup and once that goes through, this will cooldown, inland temps even more so. Thursday into friday we will get a jump up on the weekend but next week looks unessentialbly cool as a system moves into the north. Breezy to windy, some areas downright howling. Upper 70s for inland areas and 80s now in locations that just two days ago were in the low 100s and i think this trend takes us right in friday, we will get a rebound a little bit, near normal on saturday, warmup sunday and monday, tuesday comes right back down. Really . Yes. Thank you, steve. Its 5 19 and the cincinnati zoo will reopen its gorilla exhibit today. It has been closed since the 3 yearold boy climbed over an outer barrier and fell about 15 feet into the enclosure last month. Video captured the silverback dragging him just before zoo officials shot and killed the gorilla. Now, the shooting caused an outpouring of criticism. Some blaming the boys mother. But prosecutors say they wont seek charges against her. If anyone doesnt believe a 3yearold can scamper off very quickly, they have never had kids, because they can and they do. Now, the gorilla exhibit has a taller barrier railing in place and rope netting. The widow of labor leader cesar chavez died. Helen chavez died yesterday of Natural Causes at a bakersfield hospital.
