You can see a lot of the cars parked on the streets even though we see a lot of people in the parking garages. We dont know if these cars were targeted but this does loop around and a lot of cars were hit. We see some cars with plastic covering over the windows. The Police Believed that this smashandgrab crime spree began at the hampton inn in brentwood early friday morning. 17 vehicles were damaged and most have broken windows. The suspects headed to livermore. This Surveillance Video shows the suspects in town at 4 20 am friday, casing the street. You see the car parking, two people running out and returning five minutes later. They also hit the tiffany, and waterlily, totaling 34 break ins in 30 minutes. The neighbors woke up to broken glass and damaged windows, and one woman had three cars broken into. I have lived here for about 13 years and nothing has happened. This is the first time i see this. Neighbors reported a suspicious white car in the area and the police ran the plate which it turned out to be a stolen lexis from the hampton inn. The Police Believe this group is from out of town and there are no descriptions from the suspects but the license plate from that stolen car is 4jpx560. Firefighters in Mariposa County are making progress on the Massive Wildfire near yosemite. Since the Detwiler Fire is now 45 contain, it is burned over 76,000 acres, 63 homes destroyed since the fire started a week ago. More evacuation orders were lifted over the weekend as people returned home. It may still take another two weeks before the fire is fully contained. It is a very complex fire and areas within the containment lines that have to be burned off that are smoldering. I have never seen a big city have this small town feeling but in a very good way. That is very nice. The chief of police for the city and county of San Francisco. Reporter it is been six months since the San Francisco Police Department swore in the new police chief and after 179 days on the job i sat down with bill scott, the chief, to learn how he is settling into the position and the city he now calls home. I am working all the time. A lot of times it is go home, go to bed and come back to work. I have been able to see a little bit of the city somewhat, but not as much as i would like. We are getting settled. Reporter the lead up to the chief scott taking the helm wasnt marred with controversy. The former San Francisco police chief resigned in may of last year at the request of the mayor ed lee. In october u. S. Department of justice outline 272 recommended changes for the department. Scott was sworn in in december and says he feels they have made significant progress when it comes to the report. We set the mark on terms of where we need to be as a city and Police Department in terms of the recommendations. Numerically we have submitted 80 recommendations but as far as the documentation to the department of justice reporter one of the toughest task ahead is changing the culture within the department, especially when it comes to de escalation tactics. We hope to get to the point where we deescalate and employ the proper tactics to prevent incidents from going to a level of deadly force. I am in favor of the less lethal tool, given there are cases where things have happened that have gone awry, but it is not designed to take a persons life.
