The order mobilizes the States Office of Emergency Services to the effected areas and it directs the department of transportation to seek federal relief for damaged roads. Yes was governor browns third request for federal disaster help. President trump already issued declarations for the storms back in early january, and in february we had that crisis at the oroville dam that forced the evacuation of almost 200,000 people. In the meantime, a major road in marin county is closed this morning because of a mud slide. Were along francis boulevard with more on the impact of this slide and the work thats being done, alex. Crews say they are going to be taking down a number of trees in the area of this slide and theres going to be theyre going to spend the rest of the day keeping an eye on that hillside to make sure the earth is not continuing to move, but the wordy got from one of the folks who is on the ground is that potentially they could keep sir Francis Drake boulevard closed for the rest of the day. Anyone who drives this this area want to find another way to get between west marin and san 6 04 is the time. Three families in pleasanton are on the verge of losing their home. The land is eroding away. In the four or five weeks, i have lost 20 feet. They lost 40 feet and it will keep going because theres nothing to protect. What used to be a slope is now a cliff. One neighbors Swimming Pool just a few feet from the edge of that cliff. The homeowners blame development and a lack of maintenance by the city and county for the rapid erosion of their backyards. The nearby aroya creek is swallowing up the land and photos shows how the creek has widened to 2200 yards and is carving an sshape turn so instead of flowing passed their property, its slamming straight into them. We would be in our home at night when its raining hard and we could hear things go and the whole house would shake. And it has been quite traumatic for us over the years and now we know its right in our backyard. The homeowners are also worried that creek erosion could collapse the land underneath the tracks for the 8th commuter train. Multiple agencies are examining that erosion issue. Six suspects have been arrested. Two others, robert ruiz and Aaron Vallejo were caught after they drove away from the scene. All six are facing charges of homicide. Todays International Womens day and an an event to celebrate women a womens strike is held and its called the women to its showing the importance of women. Reporter theyre call going a day without a woman, and theyre calling on women to skip work or call in sick to work, take the day off so they can participate in rallies and demonstrations happening across the country. Theyre asking women to wear wear and theyre asking women to avoid shopping and patronizing businesses today unless theyre minority owned businesses or women owned. The womens march on washington the day after inauguration, theyre organizing this event. Theyre calling it an International Womens strike or day without a woman. Many bay area and San Francisco women owned businesses are taking part by staying open and donating a portion or all of their sells to nonprofits that benefit women. County supervisors are looking for possible alternate routes which could include opening up a fire road. The search continues for a man who tried to run down a Richmond Police officer. At 1 00 a. M. , police are investigating a car burglary. When the officer arrived, the suspect ran off. Moments later, a person in a mercedes noon, police got reports of a similar mercedes in west berkeley. An officer tried to pull it over near 6th and addison street, but the driver took off. The car was abandoned at the end of dwight way. The police searched last night, dozens of people gathered in berkeley to call attention to a teenage girl who has been missing for three weeks. Family, friends and members of the local Art Community held signs outside of Berkeley High school where 17yearold castle was last seen. Relatives say they have no idea where she could have gone and her mother is asking for the publics help. The state of hawaii plans to file a lawsuit, possibly today asking a federal judge to block that executive order. The new executive order bans foreign nationals from six muslim majority countries from entering the United States for 90 days and it bans all refugees for 120 days. A lot of people think that the new executive order might be an improvement and it is from the first one. But unfortunately it still has serious constitutional defects. Its preventing the grandmothers from seeing their grand children and preventing grandmothers from attending wedding for their grand daughters or visiting a sick family. This ban on immigrants from the six countries will take effect next thursday. Here in the bay area and across california, theres concern that more landlords will threaten to report tenants who are undocumented immigrants if they complain about rising rent and poor living conditions. The east Bay Community law center in berkeley says it has heard about these landlord stories before, but they are becoming more common. One law Center Attorney has worked on three recent cases in oakland. In one change the tenant was concerned about property repairs and sewage leaking sewage when they complained to the land lord and threatened to call code enforcement, the landlord said if you call code enforcement, then ill report you to ice. I know youre undocumented. It is illegal in california for a landlord to ask about a tenants immigration status or retaliate against a tenant. Oakland city councilman noah gyo is holding two workshops at the Senior Center on east 12th street to inform immigrants and refugees about their rights. U. S.
