Reporter good morning, dave. Proposition f was one of the more contentious measures on the ballot and it went down in defeat. They dont want to curb the Short Term Rentals. Prop f was seen by many as an anti airbnb initiative. It was rejected by 55 of voters. It would have limited the rentals to 75 nights a year. They say the greg has put the squeeze on those already struggling to afford living here in San Francisco. Airbnb, well, the company spent more than 8 million to defeat the measure. And opponents call this a victory for the homeowners that rely on the extra rental income to make ends meet. Prop f did nothing to address the housing crisis. Housing prices would not go down if it had passed. It has been really grass roots. It has been going door to door, explaining a lot. Its something that we really believe in that it is a fair regulation. Reporter and San Francisco voters also rejected another hotly debated housing initiative. That was proposition i which would have frozen luxury Housing Construction in the citys Mission District. 57 of people that turned out to vote voted no. Prop i would have put a year and a half moratorium on any new market rate apartments and condos in the mission. But voters they have acknowledged that the city has an issue when it comes to Affordable Housing. That is seen in the passing of proposition a. Thats a bond measure that authorizes up to 310 million to build more Affordable Housing in San Francisco. That measure needed a steep two thirds majority to pass and 73 of voters gave it the green light last night. By the way mayor ed lee a major supporter of prop a is promising that all of those funds will be used to either build or renovate about 30,000 Affordable Housing units here in San Francisco. Alex, thank you. The shooting back in july put the San Francisco sheriffs race in the spotlight. They voted out the sheriff and replaced him with a political newcomer vicki hen see. She received 61 of the vote. Nearly double that which mcreamy received. A former lieutenant in the Sheriffs DepartmentJohn Robinson finished third. Hen see was all smiles posing for pictures with supporters. Well wishers including mayor ed lee and former mayor willie brown. She becomes the first woman to be elected sheriff in San Francisco. One of the first issues she will face, the citys sanctuary policy. Im not prepared exactly what i plan on doing but what i want to do is get into office, look at it and i will be making changes to the way that the sheriff has interpreted it. I may interpret it differently. But i want to work with others in determining that policy. Hen see says as a woman she is proud to be a trail blazer both in the Sheriffs Department and city politics. She hopes voters chose her because of her qualifications and vision not her gender. San Francisco Mayor ed lee easily reelected, dave. Yes. He won 56 of the vote. He had no major opposition. Ran a lowkey campaign. Last night we caught up with the mayor shortly after the Election Results came in. We asked him about his plans for the next four years. What is your priority for the second term . Housing and homelessness with a very strong eye towards public safety. We cant be a successful city unless were safe. Housing and homelessness are two issues that i will spend a lot of time. He said if he was reelected and if voters approved prop a the housing bond which passed he was committed and renovating 30,000 units of Affordable Housing during his next four year term. More Election Results. The race for supervisor in district 3, christian son is the incumbent but she faced a tough challenger in aaron peskin. Peskin won 52 to 43 . It means another progressive vote on the board of supervisors while the mayor loses a more moderate voice. Just look for the story on the front page. There is a warning from local Law Enforcement regarding a street version of the drug xanax. It may be linked to two deaths. Jeanine has the circumstances of the deaths in the news room. Gasia, cases like this has been popping up recently and Law Enforcement is taking notice. The Sheriffs Department posted a picture of what they think the counterfeit version of xanax may look like. The real drug is used to treat panic disorderrers brought on by depression. A 19yearold man and a 20year old man died after taking what they thought was xanax. The teen ingested it at a party. The other man was found dead in his home. The Sheriffs Office is not saying where they got the drugs. They are also investigating three recent overdoses, including one death related to xanax that may have been laced with opiate medication. 7 students were sick inned after taking xanax at school. Investigators say that incident does not appear to be connected to the tainted street drug version of xanax. Autopsies and toxicology tests have been done in the Santa Cruz County cases. There was an unexpected twist in the highly publicized case of an Illinois Police officer whose death lead to a huge manhunt two months ago. Several sources reporting that lieutenant Charles Joseph glennwitz actually took his own life. The officer in suburban fox lake had radioed in he was being chased by three men on foot. When backup arrived they found his body 50 yards from his police car. There was a massive manhunt that followed but nothing was found. Well, last month investigators revealed that he was killed by a bullet from his own gun. But the case was always investigated as a homicide. Police in georgia say a woman in charge of caring for Whitney Houstons daughter Bobbi Kristina brown is facing charges, accused of impersonating a nurse. Back in january she was found face down in a bathtub at her home in georgia. Bobby browns nurse was impersonating a licensed nurse with a similar name. She is now facing charges that include Identity Fraud and also nursing without a license. Now, according to a Police Report theres no indication that her care was affected by that nurse. Voters in iowa rejected a measure that would have paved the way for Recreational Marijuana in the state. Voters in houston, texas rejected an ordinance aimed at ending discrimination towards gays and transgender people. A baby is among three people known to have survived a deadly crash today of a cargo plane in eastern africa. It crashed shortly after taking off for oil fields in the region. 15 people on the plane were killed. There were earlier reports by the government as many as 41 people were dead. Now, while its still early in the investigation, theres speculation now engine failure may be to blame. Also russian officials have identified 33 of the 224 people who died in that plane crash over the weekend in egypt. Authorities say most were on vacation from st. Petersburg in russia. Investigators are looking into whether the plane exploded in midair or crashed because of a mechanical problem. The planes tail was found three miles away from the rest of the wreckage. Some passengers on board a Spirit Airline flight are claiming racial discrimination. Witnesses say the problem started when the white Flight Attendant accused a black passenger of being unruely.
